  2. I'm planning to do MS in Consts Mgmt for Fall 2004. I cannot decide where to go between Vtech and UFL. I have heard that the Construction Management Course in UFL is very good and job prospects in florida are also good. Anybody has any idea about ranking of Vtech & UFL for civil enineering ? Does anybody have any idea about the course in CM, RA/TA aid situation, on/ off campus jobs, life in general at UFL - Gainsville ? Anybody from UFL can advice me about per semester cost at UFL ? Please Advice. Any information provided will be helpful.
  3. I have applied for MS in Civil Enggineering and got a few admits. I just wanted to know if we can change our majors at the university on the very first day ? The Letters say that "If you decide to change your major, you will have to go through a formal review process". Also anyone has any idea abt how is Const Management course at VTEcH ? Please advice.
  4. My GRE score is 1220 (450+770+4 awa). TOEFL - 273. GPA system not followed at my univ. My Acads were 66.5% and I am second in my college. Also got a reason for my reject from IOWA .. they say one of the components of my GRE is low. As Erin said, You can always be rejected by a lower ranked university and get accepted at a better university.
  5. Finally got an admit from VirginniaTech for MS in Civil Enginnering for Fall 04, though no initial aid. Anybody has any idea about the aid scene (RA/TA) at VirginiaTech ?
  6. I had sent a mail to the Civil Dept on 15th. No reply as yet. Maybe the holidays. My acads are not so bad. I was 9th in the 2nd year and 2nd in the 3rd year of engineering in my college. Also I was among top 5% in my class in all subjects related to my specialization. Will wait for their email. Keeping my fingers crossed.
  7. I had applied for MS in fall 2004 in Civil Engineering. I today got a reject from IOWA State Univ which was one of the lower ranked university I had applied to, without even my GRE and TOEFL from ETS reaching there. What are my chances at these other universities My Acads : 66.5% GRE : 1220 (770+450) TOEFL : 273 TWE : 5.5 Please Advice .
  8. got a verbal score : 450 and quant score : 770 Is this enough or should i retake the test ? I wanna pursue a Master's in Civil Engineering .. My engineering record is good .. 1st class in all sems till now .
  9. Pls review my reply to the argument topic and comment on it . Any mistakes pointed out will be helpful . -------------------------------------------------------------------- The following appeared in a newspaper feature story. "There is now evidence that the relaxed manner of living in small towns promotes better health and greater longevity than does the hectic pace of life in big cities. Businesses in the small town of Leeville report fewer days of sick leave taken by individual workers than do businesses in the nearby large city of Mason City. Furthermore, Leeville has only one physician for its one thousand residents, but in Mason City the proportion of physicians to residents is five times as high. And the average age of Leeville residents is significantly higher than that of Mason City residents. These findings suggest that people seeking longer and healthier lives should consider moving to small communities." Reply . -------------------------------------------------------------------- The conclusion of the argument that living in rural areas, away from hectic and polluted urban life, promotes better health looks convincing at first glance but the basis on which this conclusion is made is far from convincing. The point that sick leaves are lesser in the nearby Leeville as compared to Mason City does not indicate healthier lifestyles of Leeville residents. The workers in Mason City may fabricate about their sick leave and can use this sick leave for some other purpose. Also the types of business are not mentioned. The major business in a small city like Leeville may be mainly diary farming, agriculture etc where the number of workers employed may be negligible as compared to the workers in major industries in Mason city. So naturally the number of sick leave reported may be more in Mason city. Also the argument that the proportion of physicians in Leeville is five times less then that of Mason city also does not provide a concrete evidence to support the conclusion of the argument. Neither there is information that the number of physicians in Leeville is sufficient nor the daily number of patients visiting the physician is mentioned. There might be a possibility that the average patients visiting a single Leeville physician might be five times higher than that at a Mason city physician. Also the increase in the average age of Leelville citizens being greater might be due to the fact that the older citizens prefer to live in rural areas whereas the younger generation prefers to leave in the urban areas where they have greater job opportunities , educational facilities etc. Thus the evidence provided to support the conclusion is not convincing, on the basis of which a decision cannot be made.
