  12. 4.Many politicians are characterized by an inconsistency of platform during crises,to the extent that they are rarely -------encouraging and ------ similiar behaviour in their colleagues. 1 averse to ----facilitating 2 abhorrent---forshadowing 3 confidient about ---dissuading 4 diffident in -----triggering 5 radical about ----quelling I had seen this but kept out of it as it seemed a very strange question. I translate the sentence as 'politicans will change their long-held values when faced with crises, they are not bothered about this leading to similar value changes by their colleagues'. We can immediately rule out 2, 3 and 5. 1 means: they do not mind helping their colleagues do the same thing. 4 means: they are not afraid of creating similar behaviour by their colleagues. So both 1 and 4 seem possible but have different meanings. If that seems helpful feel free to post it in the thread. Michael.
