  1. I used www.4gmat.com Number Properties book. It is a good one. Don't know abt GMAT sets, so can't comment. I was always good at math but still felt GMAT math was tough. Do questions on this forum & others esp Num Prop to see how u approach them. I guess I personally need to learn to practise how to back solve some problems. This may help too.
  2. i agree...quant is tough...u need to know number properties...time mgmt is curcial.
  3. Sorry for not being clear  . My biggest improvement was in SC. I was guessing in the beginning, when I first started my prep. But now have a good grasp & know how to get a good number, if not all, of them right. And of course the new GMAT does emphasize on this. I was lucky to get personal instruction from a very good english instructor. I believe he is the best & just happen to get in touch with him. He is also trying to come out with a book for GMAT SC. If he does, I would highly recommend it. My 1st attempt at GMAT was a failure because I heard about Manhattan GMAT SC guide and bought it with the false hopes that it would bring me results. I memorized the whole guide, cover to cover, and practised their suggested strategy including the OG10 questions. But the results weren't there. I paid a huge price by scoring a 24 on verbal during my 1st attempt. About 3 weeks before the 2nd attempt in December, i happen to see an email on Gmattutor yahoo group to which I had subscribed. And wow....tht was a blessing. That is what I needed. Although I cancelled my score during 2nd attempt for personal reasons, my confidence was high because i knew the right techniques & practised them religiously. SC's are one area in Verbal that one can surely master, given the right resources. With reg to the confusion abt wht I meant, i meant to say that DON'T EVER LEAVE ANY QUESTIONS UNANSWERED. If u have to guess on a couple in the middle of the test, please do so. This will save u time for later, i.e to answer ques towards the end of the test. I believe I did cost a handful. My verbal score of 34 would have been a 40 had i just clicked thru the RC i got on 36th ques & tackled the last 3. I left abt 3 ques unanswered when the clock ran out on me. Please take this seriously if u want to not regret after having done all the right things. Feel free to ask more......will try and reply. I totally agree with u Lawrence. I wish I had heard u yesterday during my last 10 ques. My headline would have been 750(49Q, 40V) ...does sound better right :yuck: . Nevertheless, I am better today than I was yesterday. 690 is still good, but I feel stupid to have done that blunder of leaving ques unaswered. Don't know if there are any statistics out there on the cost of leaving questions blank. But anyway. I hope others learn from my mistakes & not do the same blunders. You surely seem to have already heeded to the advice.
  4. Well, took it again yesterday. Not excited but not disappointed. I had a 600 the first time I took it. But definitely I was expecting at least a 700 or 710 if not more. Does anyone know, how leaving 2-3 questions unanswered in Verbal effects u r score? I thought I had rocked in Verbal, since it was full of SC's & really tough ones. But I cracked them all. Not just saying this but am sure. Some CR's were weird. But what caused my timing to be screwed up was the passage I got on 36th question. Bad timing. Please plan on this. I that I would get something in the high 40's - perhaps 48 or 49 on verbal but I guess I should have not spent the 5-6 min on this passage & guessed on it. Could have been experimental. A 700 would have brought better peace of mind than a 690. Well, I know it is a good score but I knew I had crossed the 750 or at least a 700 barrier already sometime in the middle of my Verbal when I answered those tough SC’s. Everything was damn clear to me until the last passage showed up  , I should have guessed on it or at least saved 30 secs on it to click thru the last 3 ques, but oh well. What can one do? I guess I have to bite the bullet for now & see how things shape from here. Have to prep for an interview in 2 weeks. Was hoping to see that this would give me the added confidence. Have to wait till tomorrow morning & see how I feel. Quant was ok, with some significantly tough questions. Never prepared for quant on my last GMAT (600) & still got the same score. This time I did spend some time especially on the Num Property since Pearson has made them so hard. Had one tough geometry quest & 1 tough probability. Overall I wouldn't complain about my 49 in Quant. But I truly believe with my verbal prep I should have gotten at least a 40 if not higher. The SC's thrown at me were challenges from Pearson to see what my endurance was. And I don't just believe but KNOW I didn't get a single 1 out of the 20 odd sc's wrong. So guys, learn how to manage ur time on the exam. It doesn't matter if u guessed an answer or knew it. Finishing the test also matters equally. Be prepared for bad SC's. On the good side RC's are about 30-40 liners. With one about 60 lines I guess. The 30 -40 liners aren't bad but they do take some time. Don't need to be spelling bee champ or know any additional vocabulary. CR's were not too bad, just keep a closed mind. Almost picked a wrong choice and good that before I said ok to confirm my brain caught the right choice. I think how u get ur last 10 ques effects u r score also. Esp the last 2-3 quest can make a diff, if all u need is like 10-20 pts to get a 700 vs a 690. Just a psychological figure...but we wud all like tht better than a 6XX right ? Well in retrospect my 1st GMATPrep score was 690 about 10 days ago. And 710 abt 2-3 days ago. But was skewed because of some repeat questions. I think the last 3 questions did cost me whole bunch of points in verbal. So be prepared to see 4 RC's. I have no idea how to take seeing a not so straight forward RC on 36th question with 3 questions on it, followed by an Ultra hard CR. If this means that u r doing good or bad or that Pearson vue hates u. Anyway just be prepared & stick to the clock. Do or Die move on with any question in the middle of the test if u can't answer it in 2 mins. Even if u think u might get it right if u give another minute or so. Think of it as an experimental ques, close u r eyes & click a choice & save those precious minutes for later. Later.
  5. Don't eliminate options based on Being. D has to be the right choice. Being is a form of be. And any be form in participle phrases, must be being. That is what is going on here. A state is implied i.e the state that the plant is in or its quality just like anything being lazy, he gets fired from every job he has ever had. Another example, Being smart doesn't make a person any more likely to succeed in life, according to a decade-long story published in journal Nature.
  6. Congrats & don't be disappointed. Most ppl score better on 2nd & 3rd attempt. You already have a great score.
  7. Anyone, please take your passport with you when you test. For people who are not citizens of the country they are testing in, this is mandatory. No other form of ID will be acceptable. Especially in the U.S, drivers license will not be good. This was not the case under ETS, but the rules have changed. Please TAKE YOUR PASSPORT. I was turned away from the test center because of this today. Yes, sounds awful & that i how I have been feeling, but I hope others are aware of this rule. Pearson Vue will not let you test. If you don't have a passport or your passport is expired please contact Pearson Vue & resolve the issue. But do take you Passport in any case. I did stop by the testing center a week before my test date & showed my drivers license & I was told that is good enough. I spent a good 30 mins talking to the lady at the center last time and she never told me anything about Passport. I confirmed my appt & my ID with her then & said I was good to go & told me to just show up on the test day. She even gave me a pair of earplugs that I will be given on the test day. She was very nice that day. But today the first thing she asks me is the Passport & didn't let me test even though I got it and went back. Was a little late by that time. She was like we have turned several people away for this. And, I was like What the heck, were u sleeping the last time I spent the 30 mins talking to u about GMAT & showing you my ID & confirming my appt. Anyway, I have to reschedule it and take it soon, hopefully, in a day or two but don't trust these people. I hope I don't have to pay again & will try & take it at a diff test center if possible. No point in whining, so I will move on  . Hope others don't get in such a situation. Good Luck.
  8. COngrats, I had a horrible experience today.
  9. Great post CTG...I don't know how I missed it. It has actually 3 pages & I saw the 1st page & was like, GOD how long is 7 days of vacation according to you. I thought you never returned from vacation to debrief. Then I realized the 3 pages....& was like...ok he has returned :)
  10. Yeah, u have to look at schools that you are interested in. With a stellar profile & a GMAT score in 500's one might still be able to go to any top school. So it all depends on u r interest & profile.
  11. Ok, so C is the best choice. Again, this is a GMAT standard ques, & not actual ETS question. Thanks again & apologies for the diff in Orig sent & choice A.
  12. Ok, sent a PM to Bob. Will reply tomorrow. I have posted the OA on SC.com, if u r curious. Erin has a reply there.
