  1. yeah i did have a really low AW, 3.5 cause i didnt pay attention to it. Im a chemistry major, going into physical chem. I mainly did retake it for that, and got a 5. Just worried since my math went from 790 to like 700 its going to hurt me :(
  2. Ok, First time i took the GRE i got a 550 V and a 790 Q. I emailed Penn and they told me they take the GRE again just to try to improve the verbal and the AW if i wanted to, since they take the highest scores of each. Well i did retake it, got a 600 in V but my math score plummeted :(. Is this really going to look bad for the other schools i apply to? If anyone has had this happen to them with GRE scores going down the second time please reply!
  3. ohh definitely. thats how i made my decision for undergrad at least. a school could be a great school, but in an absolutey miserable atmosphere

  5. Alright. Since I love this forum, I'm gonna throw out this "predicament". So I took the GRE again, 1st time scores were Q790 V550. Now i emailed Penn and they said scores were great, but if i wanted to just to concentrate on the verbal. So sure i studied like crazy for the verbal, took the GRE again today, went up to V600. Defnitely did not maintain the math score!!!!:( Now I'm assuming that Penn will take the highest verbal and math, cause they basically told me that by concentrating on the verbal, but do others? I've heard conflicting answers on here, from a definite no, to maybe to yes. So whats your take?
  6. where did you find these average scores?
  7. hey there, i'm going for grad school in chemistry, but its close enough. I posted a note a month ago and only got about two responses, so i know your pain.
  8. i contacted a couple universities like Penn and Duke and they say they take the highest verbal and the highest math score from all the scores you report. so that gives me a little relief
  9. thanks, that calms my gitters a little bit! Its just so hard to find anyone really anywhere over the internet who has applied and been successful for chem grad school. either that or im just not looking hard enough!
  10. it seems everyone on here is for engineering or computer science :(
  11. Hi. Im a chem major, just took the GRE..got a 790Q but a 550V. If i take the GRE again, can i take my highest verbal from one test and my 790Q score and combine them? Or is this not allowed. Feedback greatly appreciated! -Jen
  12. Hi there! I have no idea what requirements are to getting into a good chemistry grad program, and what even classifies a good GPA. So I would really appreciate some feedback, if it sounds like I will get in!! University of Miami -B.S. in Chemistry, minor in math (graduate in 2006 GRE - 550 Verbal, 790 Quantitative Undergrad GPA: 3.45  (i messed up freshman year, its been a 3.8 for the past two years) Vice president of Chemistry Club for two years Undergrad TA since junior year, i got a truly exceptional evaluation and got the undergrad teaching award for 2005 I think i have at least 5 chem profs to choose from for letters. The only problem is i didnt start off as a chemistry major, so i havent had time to do research until my senior year. I was accepted into a great research group and plan to do a senior thesis. Its just nothing will probably be published before I apply! And im kind of worried about my gpa thanks to my fumblings freshman year. My absolute goal is to do physical chemistry at these schools from first choice to last: UPenn, Maryland, Ga Tech, or Virginia. I need some honest feedback if i have a chance!! -jen
