I have most of my Senior year planned out already, but there is one gaping hole in my schedule. I'm beginning a thesis next semester, in addition to topics in mathematical economics, linear algebra, and a german language class, but I have space for one more class. Over the course of the year, I'm going to take ODEs, environmental economics, and 1-2 additional math classes. However, I'm not sure which class I should take during the fall, and consequentially will have a grade to show for during PhD application processes. I'm mulling over the following classes to fill the gap: 1. Probability theory - though I've already taken economics statistics and undergraduate econometrics... would taking this class be redundant? 2. Topology - In addition to Linear Algebra, Real Analysis, and ODEs, is there much value in taking Topology for an Economics PhD? (It's worth noting my interests are in applied microeconomics, econometrics, and health economics.) 3. Environmental Economics - This is an interesting class but most importantly fulfills a service learning requirement. The pro is that it's an easy class during a work-intensive semester. 4. Behavioral Econ - class is taught by one of the more influential Prof.s at my school. Definitely seems relevant to future of economics, especially in Health topics. Which of these classes do you think is best for undertaking a PhD? Which looks best to admissions counsels? Additional background - currently working as a RA for an applied micro prof.; relevant courses taken: intro-intermediate micro / macro, econ stats / econometrics, calculus / multivariate calc, real analysis, health economics Thanks in advance for the advice!
