dy260
For all the scathing accuracy with which she criticizes the lives of social aspirants and moneyed folk, the writer appears to (i)_______ being part of the world she makes seem so (ii)________. Blank (i) Blank (ii) A savor D insufferable B abhor E intoxicating C distain F glamorous For the second blank, it's not hard to find "insufferable" in accordance with "criticizes", but why the word "seem" can constitute a contrast between first and second blank so that it should be "savor"? Thanks for your help!
Erin
First tip--be sure you're familiar with 'for all', which essentially means despite. (Very commonly missed point.) With that in mind, it should be easier to see the sense of the sentence--even though she makes fun of this elite group, she seems to enjoy being part of it. By the way, C should be 'disdain', shouldn't it?
dy260
Thanks Erin, I wasn't familiar with "for all", thinking "all" goes with "the scathing accuracy". Well spotted! C should be "disdain" ;P Very well explained, thank you!!!:encouragement::victorious:
PEToday
May I also add that, in this sentence there is a contrast between what she seemingly dislikes (the lives of social aspirants and moneyed folk) and what she really likes (savors).
