DaniEscol
Hi all! I got admitted into an econ Ph.D. program last year and completed my first year. I have a 4.0 GPA and did quite well on the comprehensive exams. Throughout this year I've felt I haven't been as mentally and academically challenged as I expected when I first started. I wonder if these are signs I should seek to transfer to a more competitive program. The university I am in ranks below 50 (us news ranking) and is famous for being rather heterodox. Provided, this is the first of two faculties that offered me funding; the second one gave me a late offer because some in the admissions committee weren't too happy with my GRE quant score. Do you folks think it would be a smart move to try to transfer to a better program? O should I stick to being a big fish in a small pond? Thank you! startz
People do sometimes transfer. But you should realize that you would likely have to pretty much start over, adding two years to the time to get a PhD.
