bschool_guru
Hello . .... The mistake with C is NOTabout the tense ! Tenses are fine .. present perfect ... "have" and "has" are same tenese .. In C .. the sales are used as singular .... thats the problem. eg The sales have increased The sales are slumping

fighter
Both the economy based questions posted in this and the earlier thread are tough for me. I could not concur with the correct answer unless I saw the spoiler. Recent indications of weakness in the economy have lead consumers to be more conservative with their purchases; so depressed have sales figures been as a result that the government has launched several initiatives to actively encourage consumer spending. After semicolon- we expect a new sentence to begin. Here we need to be aware not to get confused between So--as and So that idiomatic usage. (A) so depressed have sales figures been as a result that -Idiomatic Usage (B) the sales figures have been so depresed (it is really depressed -No- better to use depressing)as a result that © as a result, so depressed has the sales been that - As a result-should be followed by the result na...and have -as pointed out to be a plural usage. (D) the resulting sales figures having (should be have been so depressing that)been so depressed that -Lack of tense consistency. (E) the sales figures have been so depressed that, as a result, If this were to use the effect of result already amplified by so that-redundant.
