  1. D is correct. Despite massive federal subsidies to public transportation systems and major local efforts to persuade the underlined portion is parallel. sandeep's explanation is very much on targer !!
  2. C is correct. older as is incorrect usage. older than is correct. in E it is unclear whether "one" refers to civilization or city. thousand years more encient is awkward usage.
  3. Between D and E, prefer D because D keeps the original meaning of the sentence
  4. TFT, Since you have already taken test twice... I would say go ahead with applications. If you are re-taking, you should be very confident of cracking 730+ score. On third attempt if you score something like 710/ 720, I dont think I adcom will give much credit to you for that. Even I had 640 on first attempt and in second attempt I improved from 640 -- > 710. Now I am not planning to retake. But for Indian /IT / Male profile, it would be an uphill battle to get in to your target universities with this score even if you write strong essays. 680 is not a big problem. Low verbal score is a problem. It is easy for an engineer to compensate lower quant score but verbal score has to be high.
  5. adamtay, Great GMAT scores and Very good profile... You are certainly H/S/W material..All the Best !!
  6. Very straight .. x^2 + bx + c = (x + d)^2 = x^2 + 2dx + d^2 b= 2d c = d^2 Statement 1: d = 3 , c= 9 SUFF Statement 2: b= 6 --> d = b/2 = 3 --> c= 9 SUFF Answer (D) HTH !
  7. As promised to you guys I have uploaded these notes in a public folder on esnips. GMAT eSnips Folder NJOY :D

  10. Generally, people with MSFE get into analyst roles at investment banks. MSFE is relatively a new course. Before that investment banks used to hire quant Phds, and people graduated from top 10-15 schools for analyst roles. MSFE is a course just created to get you trained for analyst roles. In a typical investment banking firm, analyst works for 2-3 years gets burnt out by the work pressure of say 80-100 hours/week. If analyst stays there for 1-2 years more he would progress to associate role, but he doesn't have any energy left by then. He prefers to take a sabatical for 2 years in to B-school. If he is lucky, he leaves investment banking and gets into private equity or hedge funds. If he is not he joins back as an associate. Generally people with MBA finance join investment banks at the associate level. Associate generally manages a team of analysts. Checks the valuation models prepared by analysts and help prepare pitch books. If you are completely sure to make a career shift to finance, best way to go about it is MSFE and then take job as analyst / trader. Simultaneously go for CFA. If you are unsure about career switch, MBA will open whole range of opportunities. MBA can be fitted into many different roles as compared to MSFE. Best of luck.

  16. some pointers from my side.. 1) "Manhattan GMAT challenge archive" is the toughest you can get... I believe that's Q-51 level or even higher. 2) Ofcourse, TM has lot of good problems already posted and solved. Read GMAT-HELP's responses on problems in your weak area.. if probability is your weak area then search on probability and responses by GMAT-HELP. 3) Scoretop VIP Math practice questions. I think thats good too and follows GMAT trend. 4) Don't do everything...only solve more problems in your weak area. (Try to find out in which areas you struggled during final test) Now you know the trend too. Finally, you must have done it already but read all the quant docs posted in the clintonn's thread. Clintonn really worked hard on his quant.
  17. ShakeVT, Nothing is impossible with your spirit... You will crack it one day or the other. I believe you scored below your abilities in both V,Q. I have one suggestion to all here, who are aspiring to be in 700s. Don't start with low aim. Aim high....Study harder and smarter with the aim of 750+ score. If you do this, even on bad day you will end up above 700. Best of Luck for your future attempt... Let know, if you need any help..
  18. LBS is great awesome admit ..Congrats
  19. Hi, Just make sure you get Q-48 or higher. In verbal section ...don't panic on any RC... even if its too tough. I believe you got panic was the only reason for the downer in verbal section. You will cross 700 on final test.
  20. debalina, 1) Software does not distinguish between 1 time test taker or n time test taker as far as difficulty of the questions is concerned. 2) B-schools generally take the highest / latest scores. 3) If you send the report both the scores would be sent to university.
  21. Thanks.. That was indeed TOEFL website problem and I finally could register online on the last sunday.
  22. I'm no expert but here's my opinion.. NUS - Singapore-- Very good chance ISB, INSEAD,Tuck -- will require bit higher work ex for indian IT profile, although GMAT looks ok. also verbal score shd have been bit balanced-- Moderate to tough to get thru.. Columbia -- Extremely Tough
  23. Has anybody faced some problem like this ? : I have a profile on ETS TOEFL website. I logged in to website. Entered all the details for the test such as date, test center, score recipients and Payment mode (credit card). Once I enter credit card details and press submit. Bank account gets verified but nothing happens...It gets hanged there..:hmm: Following message is displayed : "processing : Do not click the refresh or back button or your transaction may be interrupted " Doesn't proceed ahead from here... Is there any way to bring this to ETS's attention ?? I have been trying to register for past 2 days. Thanks
