  1. After reading your experience, I can say tht it was all anxiety that bogged you down! However, now since you have seen it all once.. I am sure the 2nd time its gonna go much much better than this. Just dont give tooo much importance to a $250 test and that should soothe your nerves down. At the end, its just a test and nothing more. keep tht in mind. You should retake. All the best for that :)
  2. I would just say its a case of misplaced modifier! :) Once I know that , I would not even try to find the meaning of the sentence. Try to save time in SC. If you can find any mistake which is quite glaring, eliminate that option and move on to the next!
  3. Doesnt make much sense posting just the answers without reflecting upon your logic! Share your thoughts, you might also come out wiser at times! ------------------------------------- above question is case of incorrect comparisons (apples with oranges kinda). mainstream business are nt compared with business in Amish community, but is rather compared with the "failure rate" for Amish business. rules out A, b, C. E is more concise than D. D also says fail"ing" .. whts the need here?
  4. A. Based on.. modifies teh scholars. Scholars arent based on something. B. Basing it... what is it ?? C. wrong structure.. too wordy D. they referes to what ? also wordy E. Correct. Using accounts of... who used the account... => scholars.
  5. Just thought of reviving this thread. Great collection of Bold Faces!
  6. if you arent able to find the answer for 2-3 mins, make a calculated guess and move on! You should be able to easily eliminate 2-3 options just by looking at them..
  7. Its the best choice amongst the options given.
  8. E . In all other options, lions are described as "lions that play in tree without the aid of telephote lenses" Quite funny !!!
  9. hope it helps! 1000_sc_answers.doc
  10. whenever you get in such close doubt, try avoiding "ing" and pray to God! :D
  11. Check out the word in red and bold in the original sentence! Because of the enormous research and development expenditures required to survive in the electronics industry, an industry marked by rapid innovation and volatile demand, such firms tend to be very large. Hence firms need to be mentioned in the first clause.(what are "such firms"?) only B&E do it! E seems to say survival belongs to firm :D . Hence B for me! (A) to survive (B) of firms to survive © for surviving (D) for survival (E) for firms’ survival
  12. A&B can be ruled out for incorrect modifier! similarly in D, which referes to wht ?? => out ! between C&E , there is slight change in meaning! c: ..same techniques used to genetically enhance plants which same techniques? those that were used to genetally enhance plants. e: ..same techniques for genetically enhancing plants .. which same techniques ??? cant figure out. also that in E refers to plant when it should refer to the techniques ! (..for genetically enhancing plants that make them..) however, I do not find it a good question ! they / them refers to what? techniques / reserachers / plants ???:D
  13. IMO, "better heeled" is not the accessibility to wear a pair of shoes, but actual percentage of people who buy the shoes (lets not talk about if these people indeed use these shoes after buying!) in either town! I do not agree with any of the options Somehow I dont like any of the options because none of these options hint about the percentage of population covered! .. D&E directly weakens the conclusion => OUT! C talks about average price. Since avg price is less, sale could be more because of that factor. (Same person could buy many pair of shoes!) Hence it too weakens the claim of town A being(being is always almost wrong in GMAT SC) better healed => OUT! so it comes down to A&B B says Town B only has stores that sell running shoes. => Hence the sales of total shoes may be less because people in town B do not like much of running shoes. Since there are no shoes on sale other than running shoes, the sales would be less. That doesnt mean town B people do not buy other types of shoes as well (from outside may be! - context is missing and hence I feel its not a good GMAT quality question). Had the stem said that people in town A and B do not buy shoes from anywhere else, I would have probably ticked this option! A says There are more shoe stores in Town A. => More stores could mean more sales. However, if the population of A is more than B, % population in town A may not be better heeled. However, if its almost equal or less than that of B , this is our answer ! E says that Most citizens of Town B work in Town A and therefore find it more convenient to buy their shoes there. Hence a large amount of sales in A can be attributed to people in town B. So though the sales are happening in A, town B people are actually getting heeled. This means the conclusion that town A ppl are more heeled owing to more sales gets weakened. We need to find an option that "does not/least" weakens the conlusion. Hence E it can not be!
  14. As you probably know by now, the GMAT is a Computer Adaptive Test ("CAT"). This means that the questions that you see on the exam are selected by the computer based on your performance on earlier questions. For example, if you answer a question correctly, your next question will be harder. If you answer a question incorrectly, your next question will be easier. The exam is trying to gauge your ability level by seeing how well you do with questions (known as "items" in testing parlance) of varying degrees of difficulty. Generally speaking, the harder the questions you answer correctly, the better your score will be. There are other factors besides difficulty level that influence the selection of items on a particular exam (e.g., question type (data sufficiency vs. problem solving, for example), content (e.g., algebra, ratios, assumptions, etc.), and exposure (i.e., how many times has the question been seen by other test takers already that month?)). But difficulty level is arguably the most important. The CAT does not "bucket" items into "easy", "medium", and "hard" categories. Instead, each item can be considered easy, medium, or hard depending on the person to whom it is given. Each item is tested out for a period as an unscored "experimental" during the actual exams of people taking the GMAT. After a sufficient sampling of test-takers has answered the items, ETS compares the overall scores of the test-takers with their performance on the experimental items. If, say, fifty percent of all test-takers scoring in the 600-620 range got a particular experimental item right, that item would be considered of medium difficulty for that ability level. If ninety percent of those scoring in the 700-720 range got the item right, it would be considered easy for that ability level. When the item is then presented as a real scored question on subsequent exams, the computer uses the experimental data to determine whether the item is appropriately difficult for someone performing at a given level thus far in the exam. The computer tries to give you questions that you have a 50/50 shot at, based on your performance up to that point. The better you do, the harder your 50/50 items will be. Each item has an "item characteristic curve" that graphs the likelihood of answering that item correctly, based on the experimental data. The curve looks like this: http://www.pagalguy.com/images/stories/Item-Characteristic-curve.gif source: pagalguy.com

  16. Explain that in the optional essay and take recommendation from someone else who can assess you the same way.
  17. If Im not wrong, ISB asks for a min GMAt of around 680..
  18. as if they care to write it again.. :D
  19. Anyone knows the authorization code princetons software asks for??
  20. Apply only when you are best ready with your application package. Though early deadlines are sought-after, it doesnt make sense to rush your application to meet 'em without being full satisfactied. You can plan to put your application in the 2nd deadlines in case 1st deadline and your GMAT test date are too close for comfort! IMO, Essays require minimum 1 month of grilling ... minimum When I gave my GMAT , there was no such thing as SETS. CTG might provide you with some inputs as far as sets are concerned. I think 2 months , 2-3 hrs everyday and 3-4 during Sundays (6-days-a-week-work) for my first test date that got cancelled. didnt study much between that and the next test date.
