  1. Just browse the CV's of LSE's lecturers and you will find out that many of them received their degree from USA's top 15 PhD programmes. However, the opposite is not true since the competition in the US is tougher. Hence, you will see less LSE's former PhD students among US's top PhD programmes' staff. I don't have any idea of what the pay's like compared to schools in the US. But bear in mind that London is VERY expensive. Thus, no matter how stellar pays are in equivalent dollars, in terms of PPP, LSE's salaries, compared to US's salaries, may not reflect all of LSE's prestige as a job position.
  2. * Who did get an offer of LSE (PhD)? 1st option: MRes/Phd in Economics Track 1 rejected (decision displayed on online tracking application website on 20 March 2006); 2nd option: MSc in Economics (Research) offered admission (decision displayed on online tracking application website on 22 March 2006)! * Any stipend? I am applying to a scholarship in my country; rather sceptical that I might receive it. And I agree => it's an awful load of money! * Are you thinking about going to LSE? Definitely! A dream of a lifetime. * Have you already accepted/rejected the offer? Still awaiting the official letter of admission to get home and hence fill in official form of accpetance of offer. Initially, I intend to obtain Distinction and progress to MRes/PhD in the second year (as if it were that easy! heheh I'll have to work really hard for it and I definitely will). But, one never knows ... after all, London has the biggest Financial Market over that side of the pond. PS: Does anybody know if it is viable to swap MSc Economics for MSc EME when getting there?
  3. I called them because of my GRE which was not perfect. Been told that their cut off GRE Quant score necessary for the rest of the application to be reviewed is 750. Again, they insisted that the perfect GRE may still be not enough for them since many GRE Q800 applicants have already been rejected in the past because the latter had not strong letters, research potential demonstrated, not competitive GPA (especially in quantitative and econ courses) or research interest match with faculty. Likewise, NYU receives more than 1000 applications and many excellent applicants cannot be offered admissions because of that. Let us suppose that among the more than 1000 applicants, barely 10% might have the above qualifications - even in this case, it is already impossible to make 100 offers or more ... let us pray to be among the very few ones accepted! Luck to us all!
  4. Just one question on your comment though ... am I getting it wrong or would you really include Japanese students in the group of students from "'emerging' and 'developing countries'"?
  5. Yeah! congrats for both of you, TriEcon and "no one knows"! By the way, I also applied to UCSD Econ PhD programme. However, no decision has been made on my application yet. As far as I could see on "The Grad Cafe", if people are being honest, it looks like UCSD has made the first few offers to American students or International students with a US degree. Is this your case? Since I do not fit in both categories, can I still keep hopes? Cheers
  6. Wow, congratulations!!! Do you mind sharing your stats? By the way, when did you apply to LSE. I applied to the MRes/PhD track 1 as 1st option on 1st Jan and so far no decision has been made yet. Don't know what to think of it. I keep logging in to check my application status every couple of hours. And yet, nothing! LSE is my first option. Congrats again.
  7. I thought I was the only one freaking out here trying to know what's going on in LSE. I applied to MRes/PhD track 1 as first option and MSc Research as second option on January 1st. I sent later supplementary documentation on a later date (probably one week later): new GRE scores and original copies of my diploma not in English. So far, I have not heard a word. Both processes are "under consideration by the department. We cannot provide any further information at this time. This information is dynamically linked to our computer system. As soon as a decision is made, it will be displayed here. The length of time taken to come to a decision varies widely between departments and depending on the number of applications. Typically it can take eight weeks for a department to reach a final decision - popular courses may take longer." Are we supposed to check our status on the website or do we receive an e-mail from them? I was not notified by e-mail of Yale's decision. It was on their online application, though. "interiors"? What do you mean by that?
  8. Hello, fellows ... Instead of the link you are trying, I guess you should try the links in these later posts: http://www.www.urch.com/forums/showpost.php?p=245590&postcount=69 http://www.www.urch.com/forums/showpost.php?p=245594&postcount=70 I believe this might be of help. Best regards, uneyoshi.
  9. Hi, guys. Some of you already know this but there is already a thread to deal with questions from the Quant section of the Real10 Korean Tests. Some of the topics above have already been discussed there. If you like, take a look at http://www.www.urch.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35429&page=7. Also, some people were complaining they were not being able to download the tests. I attached the 10 of them there too. Cheers! uneyoshi.

  12. Now, comes the second and final batch. The OA's can be found in the first posts of this thread: http://www.www.urch.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35429 . Cheers, uneyoshi.
  13. Dear fellows, I have been receiving some e-mails of people complaining they did not manage to download the Real10 Korean Tests from http://kesaa.glwb.info/ezupload/files/. I myself ended up experiencing the same. In order to be more democratic, instead of sending individually the tests, I will post them here, since the uploading devices of our forum have not been that helpful for some. Below, comes the first batch! Hope it helps! Good luck to all! Best regards, uneyoshi. GRE10-1.pdf GRE10-2.pdf GRE10-3.pdf GRE10-4.pdf GRE10-5.pdf
  14. Guys, just one thing ... what if the p numbers and n numbers have some numbers in common? Is anything missing in the question or should I presume the p and n numbers are totally different in the real GRE?

Daniel, pls, don't get me wrong, it's nothing personal but ... I'm afraid that if we answered that "X>-1 spans all the possible solutions" this is equivalent to saying that "X is a real number", since "X>-infinity also spans any solution". If there were such an answer, should we ever chose this one? What's the point of picking an answer that does not answer exactly what the question was asking for in the first place. This not a hypothesis test that one can reject or not. So, this question makes no sense. I don't think ETS would ever formulate such a question on the real thing. Even if we presumed that spanning possible solutions would be enough, for me, such an argument would still be void of any inherent significance. Does anybody have a formal mathematical counter-argument?
