  1. Labor Econs and macro theory.
  2. Economics PhD 1 Admit (FEB) 0 Reject 7 Pending
  3. I am applying for Econs Phd at Syracuse this Fall, but I have not heard anything from them. I know the program is quite strong in labor econs (my research interest).
  4. Congrats Long. How did you find out the news? By email or postal service?
  5. Do You guy have any idea about the status of the application at John Hopkins econs program?
  6. New School in New York can also be listed. Robert Heilbroner, the guy who wrote the "Worldly Philosophers" was there.
  7. Mine (which called Advance Calculus I) is also similar in content. At my school, we have Advance Cal 1 and Advance Cal 2 which are usually taught by the same prof. So it is depend on how fast he is, he might cover up to integral in Advance 1 or he might start it at the beginning of Advance Cal 2.
  8. If you get admitted, I guess they will email or call you first. Other paper stuff will come after. So I think if you receive any snail mail without any pre email or phone call, then that means rejection.
  9. Topology in analysis is too easy in comparision with the real topology course. But if you like abstract maths, you should enjoy it. Something like Algebraic Structure (which I found easier than Topology) also helps you to handle theoretial maths.
  10. Email the graduate secretary, they will answer all
  11. For non-Us transcripts, as long as there is stamp and signature is OK. You don't need them to be in sealed envelopes. Just send them with your application form ans ohter stuff. You need to have the translations of those if they are not in English. One of my transcripts is non-US, and I have never had any problems with it.
  12. The GRE code for economics dept are all 1801, but the institution code depends on the collge you applied within the university. For example, the code of College of Arts and Science might be different than Business College and so on. So you might want to make sure where the econs department belong to.
  13. In my SOP I do put the name of some professors that I interested in. This show that you do some research about the department, and you did not just clone the SOP. Further more, it is good to show them that there are falcuty members that work in you field of research interest. I read some samples of SOP in the Donal Asher book and they all include professors name. So I think it is not a bad idea.
