  1. naa ...what u wear to office is good enuff ..biz casuals
  2. hey guys ..havent been on these boards for a long time ..how are u doingf tam , preity .... preity , congrats on getting ISB :) where is everyone applying ?
  3. lawrencl , I can answer ur first question ..the thing is India is still a third world nation and people just dont have the choices and luxuries which most americans do ..most smart kids automatically join medicine or engineering as there is nothing else to do... however , as u grow up u realise that its probably not something you can see urself as doing for the rest of ur life ..thats why a lot of people try to transition into other careers and B School is the best place to do that ..in fact , in india's top b school , 80 percent of the students had an engg background
  4. well , I agree that work ex is more important but IIT itself is such a self - selected group that it makes sense for ppl from this group to have a much higher hit rate at HWS compared to the average Indian / IT / male type
  5. GMATBong ...how tough is it for IIT Grads ? I mean whats the ratio of grads applying to those getting in ? also dont IIT grads have an edge over the run of the mill software engineer applying in the indian / IT / male pool ?
  6. sch , u r way off the money here ... fresh school grads on an average make MORE than the rest of the class RIGHT OFF THE BAT ...at top schools they start off with a base of 110K ...look up any M7 schools stats and u will see my point ... these kids are immensely talented and hence companies hire them even if thet dont have real world experience
  7. hi ppl , i dont check this thread that often ...if u want the powerprep just PM me with ur email address Thanks Mav
  8. tam , I agree 2005 will be a tough sell for most schools and u shld probably wait an year ... I know a guy who got into HBS with only 2 years but then he was an IIT KGP CS Grad and worked at McKinsey right after ( had only 710 in the GMAT though ) . Also twinn got into Stanford without any workex but then he has stellar stats - 4.0 and 790 I think. You would do well to move away from IT into something business related. I was in a similar situation last year. I was working for a bulge bracket investment bank in New York in Technology ...but I didnt apply and decided to take up a quant developer position in credit derivatives at a hedge fund. I am hoping that this position will mean tremendous value addition to my profile as I work very closely with the traders now and do some very sexy CDS instrument modeling as opposed to plain vanilla app development. On the flip side, waiting an year would mean that my profile would start to stall, as, if I stick here , I would probably be doing similar work an year or 2 years down the line. I think a lot of it is subjective and when u feel that ur career path may be flattening and its time to move on. I dont think anyone can time this better than you can as you know yourself best. As schools say repeatedly , its not the quantity but the quality that matters as far as workex goes and workex is trending downwards everywhere as schools realise that a lot of deserving candidates are manager material 2-3 years after school GMATBong, While I appreciate ur advice , I think a blanket generalization does not serve us too well. I think workex should be treated on a case by case basis and almost 25 percent of HBS's class had 3 years or less of experience
  9. tam ...when did u graduate ? 2004 or 2005 ...if its 2004 u shld go for it ...i am a 2004 grad and i dont buy the whole older applicant argument ..i am applying next year and gunning for top schools ...so should you ...dont let people discourage you
  10. yeah ..talking abt twinns posting ...well , actually the math questions are not much harder than the ones that appear on GMAT prep ...ur GMAT prep tests are the best indicator of how u will perform on the actual GMAT
  11. hey guys ...have sent the installer to most people ...angelrich - try to figure out where u r going wrong in verbal ...focus on whatever part of verbal u r having problems with - use twinn's posting as a guide for ur prep ...its one of the best resources out there ...i was weak in SC so i used Manhattan GMAT guide to SC ...its a very helpful guide ...check that out if u feel SC is a weakness..best of luck!!
  12. yeah ..it is a pain in the butt ...but dont worry too much about it as there is nothing much u can do about it anyway
  13. guys ...will send the powerprep over the weekend ..please bear with me ..thanx
  14. aww shucks ..thanks guys ...the powerprep is slightly outdated now but i still have the installers ...PM me if anyone wants it ...
