hey ochre_12, what is your Verbal and quantative . Some universities strictkly follow the (Q-700 , V-500 ) criteria . But even without this score you can get admit from top school depending with your other sides ( SOP, projects, LOR, CGPA,programming contest , research exp. etc ) . This year many people get full fund from Ohio State University .So you may apply there too . HOpe your success in the next year

Hi Tvn, With a score 450 in quantative, you'll not get a single admit in CS , let alone PhD. But let us assume you tried to write (Q-700, V-450, A-3.5 ) . Most of the universities require 500 in Verbal for PhD in CS. Check the websites of some universities.Some of them require 4.0 in analytical section . It is their minimum requirement not the average mark . :mad: And also most universities accept students with a high CGPA for their PhD program .So if your CGPA is 3.1 or 3.2 , it'd be really risky for you to get an admit in PhD in CS. Besides PhD in CS require other things than GRE and CGPA. By the way where are you doing your MS , US or other country ? If you really did not appear GRE yet, then my suggestion is "DONOT PREDICT in GRE". it is not like other exam we CS people generally face . I want to say more about this topic, but i feel tired now . :rolleyes: Probably next time . Mark my words, you'll understand when you give GRE and apply universities . I tried several post like you did here in the previous year after my GRE. But did not get a single reply . Thats why I am replying your post. Hope it helps.

If you attended uk , was it your undergraduate or graduate study ? also " I have had TA's that got their phd in math but could have easily gotten it in CS. " Are you a faculty member of any US university ? if not what r u doing now--- MS/PhD and in which subject , math , CS or Econ ? Thanks again for your valuable information .

Hi Got admit from University of Kentucky: Phd in CS with a graduate scholarship probably $8000 per year .Anyone headed there ? Do anyone know how is the CS program there ? I also got admit from NCSU : csin PhD with no fund . and Syracuse with 40% waiver . So I'll probably go for Kentucky . Please drop some suggestion or comment . Thanks

Hi Beladia , I got admitted PhD in CS for Fall 2006 . I did not hear anything about fund . But how did they tell you "to still wait" . Did you get email or did you phoned them ? Will they make the financial decision later ? As I am a International student, in their online status it says I have to send the bank document to receive my I-20 and in my bank statement I have to show their mentioned money. What about you . NCSU is a good school but without aid it is difficult for me to join there . Please reply how they said "to still wait " .

Please understand ,I am revealing neithert he name of the university or mine in case they know it .But I am trembling . People who give phone interview or know something, please help me in this regard ? What type of question they ask ? What should say ? Is it a positive sign ? How long it will be ? Thats really funny . At least they should offer 10-50 % tuition waiver to encourage people to join there . Most of the students will go where they'll get at least some form of fund even it is the university which is not in the rank. I still did not see any people who get assistantship/ fund in NCSU for Fall 06 . But is there any ? After all who want to spend $30000 per year even if it is their first year ?

Hi, I got my first admit at New Mexico State University -PhD in Computer Science . I received an email from the head of the dept of march 1. No fund though I have applied here in PhD so that I can get some fund. I've applied in Feb, my application file was completed in Feb 16 and got my confirmation in email March 01. Have anybody applied here? Can anybody give some info , pros and cons regarding this university . How is job condition, location, CS program here ? what is the financial opportunity after some semester ? Thanks.
