  1. How would you rate the Part-Time MBA programs from the following schools: 1. Babson College 2. Boston College 3. Boston University 4. Northeastern University 5. Bentley College 6. University of Massachusetts, Boston 7. Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) 8. Suffolk University
  2. First of all, congratulations on the score. I think 710 is a respectable score. Which one in Boston? Mine is on May 9th in Boston. My test center is located on 295 Devonshire St. It's right across the street from where I work so I decided to stop by one day. They did not let me go past the reception citing security reasons. From outside it looked like a small place, fairly cramped, so I was a bit concerned. Babson is good. That's where I'm going (part-time). Good luck with your apps!
  3. It'd be nice if you could post a debrief like some other folks here. It's really motivating to read 700+ stories.
  4. This was my first attemp at writing essays. And it was a pretty bad one too. I did it as a part of taking a PowerPrep Test. Can you guys give me a fair evaluation/feedback on this. ANALYSIS OF AN ARGUMENT: The following appeared in a magazine article on trends and lifestyles. "In general, people are not as concerned as they were a decade ago about regulating their intake of red meat and fatty cheeses. Walk into the Heart's Delight, a store that started selling organic fruits and vegetables and whole-grain flours in the 1960's, and you will also find a wide selection of cheeses made with high butterfat content. Next door, the owners of the Good Earth Café, an old vegetarian restaurant, are still making a modest living, but the owners of the new House of Beef across the street are millionaires." Discuss how well reasoned you find this argument. In your discussion be sure to analyze the line of reasoning and the use of evidence in the argument. For example, you may need to consider what questionable assumptions underlie the thinking and what alternative explanations or counterexamples might weaken the conclusion. You can also discuss what sort of evidence would strengthen or refute the argument, what changes in the argument would make it more logically sound, and what, if anything, would help you better evaluate its conclusion. -------------------------------------------------- The author concludes that in today's day and age, people are not generally concerned about regulating their intake of red meat and fatty cheeses. The author sites an example of Heart's Delight, an organic foods store established in 1960's. The author also compares the Good Earth Cafe, a vegeterian restaurant, with the new House of Beef restaurant. However in order to arrive to the above conclusion, the author relies on mainly on assumptions that have no solid evidence. Aparantly the author's assumptions are purely hypothetical and contain many flaws that can be easily exposed. Firstly, the author assumes that the Heart's Delight did not sell red meat and fatty cheeses in 1960 and it is a recent development. This assumption is based on the on the beleif that red meat and fatty cheeses are not organic foods. In the author's opinion organic foods are same as non fat or low fat foods. Whereas in reality, organic food is food that's grown in a natural, pesticide and fertilizer free environment. It has nothing to do with the low fat content. The author's second assumption that business is better for the new House of Beef restaurant, while the Good Earth Cafe is not doing so well, just because today's people prefer to eat meat rather than vegetarian food is also pure speculation. It is possible that business is better for the new House of Beef restaurant because of other factors beyond people's preference of meat over vegeterian food. The Good Earth Cafe might not be doing so well also because of various other reasons. For example, what if the the quality of food in the Good Earth Cafe could have deteriorated in the recent past. Therefore in lack of any conclusive evidence, the author's argument is baseless and purely speculative. The author must support his or her argument using strong evidence for it to be considered more logically sound. For example the author provide evidence that the even though the quality of food and service is the same in both the restaurant but still business is better for the new House of Beef restaurant. Until then the author's argument would be considered weak and inconclusive. ANALYSIS OF AN ISSUE: "A business should not be held responsible for providing customers with complete information about its products or services; customers should have the responsibility of gathering information about the products or services they may want to buy." Discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the opinion stated above. Support your views with reasons and/or examples from your own experience, observations, or reading. -------------------------------------------------- The statement that, "A business should not be held responsible for providing customers with information about its products or services; customers have the responsibility of gathering information about the product or services they may want to buy", has both pros and cons. Although arguments can be made in support of the statement, I strongly believe that customers have the right to know about the products and services that they are buying. The companies have the moral and social responsibility to provide this information to their customers. It is absolutely essential for a company to inform its customers about any potential harm that the product can cause. For example, cigarettes must come with a warning illustrating the ill efects of smoking, where as any electrical equipment must contain warning against electrical shock. If companies were not required by law to put these warnings on their products, customers would be lead into falsely believing that these products are safe. This would increase the rate of accidents due to customers' lack of knowledge about the dangers associated with any product or service. We as a society cannot rely on individuals always to make informed decisions on their own. Not every individual has the level of intelligence, or the resources available to research the information. Therefore it is the responsibility of a company that is selling their products and services to the customer, to provide this information. Since the companys already have that information available, it can be easily provide to their customers. Although there might be few extreme cases where customers would demand basic information that they are presummed to have, and hold the company responsible. It is still a very small fraction of negative aspects cosidering so many positive factors of providing this information.
  5. Sorry! Duplicate thread.
  6. Well that's a great tip.... I've always considered 0 to be positive. Why didn't i know about this forum before :doh: .....
  7. B is correct Combination of sets and probability.... Let B = Incorrect both Records IP = Incorrect Paper Records IE = Incorrect Electronic Records C = Correct Given B = 3% Out of IP, 60% are IE, meaning ... (.6)*IP = B --> (.03) Therefore, IP = (.03)/(.6) = (.05) Similarly, out of IE, 75% are IP, meaning ... (.75)*IE = B --> (.03) Therefore, IE = (.03)/(.75) = (.04) Using Sets ... IP U IE = IP + IE - B = (.05) + (.04) - (.03) = (.06) C = 1 - (IP U IE) = 1 - .06 = .94
  8. (2*3*5*7*11*13)/(77*k) = (2*3*5*7*11*13)/(7*11*k) = (2*3*5*13)/(k) Therefore (B) 26 = 2*13
  9. Total = 10 teachers French = 4 English & Spanish = 6 # of ways to choose 1 French techer out of 4 = 4C1 = 4 # of ways to choose 2 other teachers out of remaining 6 = 6C2 = 15 Total # of ways = 4 * 15 = 60
  10. Correct ... The way I would do it is Sqrt(68/5) = Sqrt(2*2*17/5) = 2 * Sqrt(17/5) = 2 * 4.13/2.24 = 3.69
  11. Mark is playing poker at a casino. Mark starts playing with 140 chips, 20% of which are $100 chips and 80% of which are $20 chips. For his first bet, Mark places chips, 10% of which are $100 chips, in the center of the table. If 70% of Mark's remaining chips are $20 chips, how much money did Mark bet?A. $1,960 B. $1,740 C. $1,540 D. $3,080 E. $2,640
  12. I think the answer is D ... Because D is (X)^(2/y)
  13. Thanks for taking the time to reply to my post. I really aprreciate it. About Extra Curr, nothing outstanding really comes to my mind. I did organize a couple of social and cultural events in college. And since I did grad school part-time, I hardly had any extra time. I regret not utilizing my undergrad time but it's gone now. What can I do at this point to compensate for my weaknesses? As I mentioned earlier that I plan to start part-time MBA this fall. What if try to get A grades in all the coursework? Would these courses help my application? Also, I did not mention the fact that I'll be 32 this year and 33 next year when I plan to apply for fulltime. Could age be a factor too?
  14. Ideally I would like to go into investment banking (financial side not IT) or management consulting. But I guess it would be hard to change careers if I do part time. Thats the reason I am thinking of applying to fulltime programs next year.
  15. Profile: Indian male. 8+ years of experience in the Software field (2 years in India; 6+ years in the US). Working as Technical Project Lead at a Financial Services Company in downtown Boston. Have worked in the Financial Services sector for past 4 years. Target Schools: Right now, only applying to Babson for their Evening MBA program in fall this year But I’m planning to apply to full time programs next year. Ideally I would like to get into one of the top 10 programs, but I would like to realistically evaluate my chances. Educational Background: MS in Computer Information Systems from Bentley College (Part-Time). GPA 3.17 Bachelor of Arts from India. Not a very good GPA (I think it’s PG Diploma in Computer Applications from India (Good marks but not sure about the GPA). Tons of technical certifications. GMAT: Scheduled in May, hoping to touch or even cross the 700 mark (Kaplan diag. 650; GP 680) Given the above profile and background, what do you think my chances are if I apply to the top schools next year? Or should I just join the Babson evening MBA program and be satisfied with it.
