  1. Man, I hope you guys without funding decline Stanford. So far they're the only school I've gotten a response from, and I'm on the waitlist. The more of you that go else where, the better the chance I have. I think I'd attend there even without funding. ;)
  2. Can anyone offer advice on getting accepted off a waitlist, specifically Stanford? Is it worth while to send them new information, such as the research / work I've been doing since I applied, or should I just sit back and wait?
  3. Which dept did you apply to? I know for a fact that computer science and electrical engineering use a different Application then the rest of the school, so maybe their application has that feature. I applied to Applied Physics, and the online app just says "submitted". On another note, doesn't it seem like SEAS takes longer then anyone else to respond to applications or is that just me?
  4. GRE Score- 760Q 570V 4.5A TOEFL Score- n/a UG University- NC State UG College- Engineering UG Dept- Electrical and Computer engineering Academics- (Is this GPA? I don't really know mine. In my major it's 3.9 / 4.0, but I went to 3 shchools for undergrad and some classes tranfered and some didn't. I think the worst case is about 3.2 / 4.0) Toppers percentage- ? Papers published/working- 3 conference papers (co-author), 2 poster presentations (1st author) Work Experience- Research in semiconductor devices, 4 years computer repair Extracuriicular- Honor societies (HKN, PKP, TBP), Entreprenuership clubs and activities, Tutoring, Science related voulunteer work Major- Electrical Engineering Area of specialisation- Solid-State / Quantum Electronics Projects- Yea, but I didn't mention any of them in my application Applied to... NCSU EE Ph.D - No official word, but I know I got in Stanford EE Ph.D - Waitlist (I'll be very happy if a few of you Stanford EE accepts go somewhere else :) ) Columbia Applied Physics Ph.D - No word (and sick of waiting  )
  5. Ok.. I'm gonna seem self centered here, but don't go to Stanford.... I'm on waitlist there and I want to get it. ;) Now, not so self centered... I'd say go there. And are you sure you can't get a loan? I have a friend who is from India and didn't get funded her first year and she took out a loan form an American bank to pay for her first semester. Then she got funding after that. (This was at NCSU by the way) Another one of my friends turned down funding offers from many schools (law school) to go to UMich (no funding). She had to take out loans to attend, but the fact she went to a top 10 school meant that she could almost pay back her loans with just her summer internships. This might be an isolated case, but I'd say you should go to your dream school. It'll pay off in the long term.
  6. I was put on the Stanford EE waitlist, but there's no position or rank. Anyone know how big the waitlists typically are? Also, does this mean they want me but don't have funding (as in all funding has been offered to accepted students)? Thanks
  7. I'm pretty sure it means Greenwich Mean Time. Check the link. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UTC
  8. I think he applied to EE Ph.D program. I don't know anything more about MIT and if their sending answers, it's not one of the schools I'm watching.
  9. I don't know about this. I had a friend who got rejected by MIT in an email. They asked in the email if he wanted an official notice through post or not. It sounded like they didn't want to waste time or postage if they didn't need to.
  10. Columbia for applied physics Stanford and NC State for Electrical Engineering The EE dept at columbia didn't have alot of research that interested me, but Stanford and NC State's EE departments do, that's why I chose the AP program
  11. My school doesn't do an undergrad thesis, but I did do 2 years of reasearch on semiconductor devices. I talk about that and my interest in physics in my SOP. On another note, I wish I had found this site 6 months earlier. I think it would've helped me polish my applications some.
  12. So what about first author vs co-author? As an undergrad I had 2 co-authored publications if IEDM (which is big in my field). Obviously being the first author is the best, but does it still mean something to be second author?
  13. I need some oppinions here. My B.S. Is in EE, but I applied to the Applied Physics department for a Ph.D. I was wondering if this was common. It seems most AP students were Physics majors as an undergrad. Is a degree in EE gonna hurt my admissions chances? It's too late to change anything, but I was just curious if others have done this?
