  1. My status is still the same old "under consideration". Strange.
  2. I would guess only a minority of these people are interested in doing research on econometric theory.
  3. Still under consideration. Oh well.
  4. No word from them. I must be out, I wish they'd just update my status soon.
  5. Has anyone heard from them? Someone posted an admit on the Grad Cafe today.
  6. Am I the only one with the impression that Chicago has a slightly different weighing of the different criteria for admissions in relation to other top programs? Maybe it is the writing sample that has some impact? Any thoughts?
  7. Based on this lousy website I wouldn't take them very seriously, but it seems that they have names like Esther Duflo and Philippe Aghion as adjunct professors. As far as I understood, it works like a french version of the Tinbergen Institute graduate school. However, like Zsla said, there's almost no funding for the first two years, which will make it difficult for them to take off.
  8. Princeton works with a waiting list, so there's still hope for those who didn't receive anything today. I've seen people being admitted there very late in the game.
  9. No news from Duke here. I'm starting to get worried.
  10. Let me add my two cents here. In the job market, it will all come down to your research work at the PhD program. Taking that as given, I would even risk saying that it doesn't matter if you are coming from an economics or finance department. My view: weight your prospects of securing a great advisor highly. Finance programs enroll very few students, so they have a great advantage in this aspect; for the same reason, however, I do think they're harder to get in.
  11. Tatonnement, First of all, thanks for sharing your valuable perspective. Can you write a little about Columbia? Do you think they may be heading for a top 7-9 status? I may have to choose between Columbia, NYU and UPenn and right now I'm completely lost. My primary interests are macro (more inclined towards monetary) and financial economics.
  12. No chance, I guess. Funding for the first year at Chicago is scant, for clear reasons.
  13. I was rejected from Track 1 and they offered me a place in MSc Economics (Research), even though I didn't specify any second choice. I have no interest in the MSc Economics, but would consider an offer for the MSc in Econometrics and MathEcon. I've now asked to be considered for this program, but have received no response yet. Thanks!
  14. Was that your second choice in your application? Or have they offered you a place in the MSc in Econometrics and Math Econ after your rejection in Track 1?
  15. From the gradcafe it seems that they've already mailed their decisions. It will be a long long wait for people outside the US...
  16. Reply to an e-mail inquiry yesterday (3/10): "The Admissions Committee is still meeting to consider applications for our fall 2006 PhD program. No final decisions have been made at this time and no letters have been sent out. I hope to have more information in about 10 days."
  17. What about the Ph.D. placement history of your school?
  18. Jjyy, You have an exceptional profile and should have applied for more programs. It is got to be the transfer issue. Check the NYU FAQ for example: If I may add my two cents, I must say that I don't really think schools care much for the fact that you have a paper accepted in a low tier journal; by the cold of logic of the admissions process the publication does not say much about your potential since you are a graduate student already. Of course, I don't want by any means to judge the merits of your achievement and do congratulate you for that. Out of curiosity: did you send the paper with your application packages?
  19. I think the basic question is: how do you rank in your current class?
  20. Is it hard to be accepted in the MSc Econometrics and Mathematical Economics (Research) once you've already got an offer for the MSc Economics (Research)?
  21. No need to wait! E-mail the graduate secretary and you'll receive a quick reply.
  22. No news is not the end of the world, but it is definitely bad news. If lots of people are receiving offers by e-mail and you are not I guess you can't expect much that particular school anymore. I wish adcoms read Machiavelli. "Severities should be dealt out all at once, so that their suddenness may give less offense; benefits ought to be handed ought drop by drop, so that they may be relished the more."
