  1. Correct. Good explanation, Catchkedar!!
  2. Yes. Thanks, especially, for your 2nd ques explanation.
  3. T/S > 3/80 => 5/S > 3/80 => S => S So, maximum value of S is 133 (D)
  4. I marked (D) during the test but during review, I worked out © to be correct. But the OA is Can someone explain why?
  5. Can you pls provide the feedback on this essay and suggest improvements, which I am sure must be many. Thanks. ARGUMENT The lifeguards that watch the state's public beaches work from 8 a.m., when the beaches open, until 6 p.m. when they close. A ten-hour work day is much too long given the importance of the lifeguard's job. If the workday for lifeguards were shortened to only eight hours, there would be an increase in public safety. Discuss the argument above. Analyze its logical structure and use of evidence. What, if anything, would make the argument more persuasive or would help you better to evaluate its conclusion? The aforementioned argument asserts that the job duration for a lifeguard at the beaches should be reduced from the current 10 hours to 8 hours. Considering the importance of a lifeguard's job, the author states, it is necessary that his job suration may be reduced to increase public safety. The argument, on the face of it, looks to be a convincing one but on careefully examining the argument and its underlying structure, neither the argument nor its conclusion can be taken seriously. The argument fails to address- or even acknowledge- its assumptions and fails to provide evidence to substantiate its claims. First the author mentions about the importance of the lifeguard's job because of which the job duration should be reduced. The author is assuming that having a 10 hour job will tire a lifeguard to such an extent that he/she may lose focus and may be unable to fulfill the job requirements properly. But what the author overlooks is the fact that it is the importance of the job itself that requires a lifeguard to work for 10 hours. The lifeguards are aware of their job requirements before they join this job. Also, author does not provide us with any evidence that lifeguards have not been able to perform their duty at an optimum level while having a 10-hour job routine. Second, the author mentions that the shortened job duration is necessary for public safety. Again, the author has not provided any evidence to suggest that a 10-hour job duration for lifeguards has resulted in danger to the public safety. On the contrary, it is for public safety that lifeguards have a 10-hour job routine. The beaches are opened from 8am to 6pm, as mentioned in the argument. If the lifeguard leaves the job 2 hour early and, God forbid, any untoward incident happens during the last 2 hours, then who will be responsible for such an accident? The argument, in its current state, contains a considerable number of defects, the most blatant of which have been discussed above. The author needs to provide evidence for the claims made in the argument and needs to provide the grounds on which the assumptions are made. If the author takes care of the above-mentioned concerns, both the legitimacy and the strength of the argument may be reinforced to such an extent that it will be difficult to refute. But as it stands, the argument contains many loopholes, which need to be rectified.
  6. Congrats, Felix. Great going:tup:
  7. Thanks for the explanation, Rits700. I appreciate it.
  8. Congrats Prithvatsa, your score is really good. I mean getting 680 should not be easy which I learnt from my prep scores. And somehow, I felt little relaxed by reading ur small de-brief, that real gmat is like gmatprep.
  9. Congrats. Amazing score, Rjayender:tup: And a wonderful de-brief. Any special tips for the last week prep - OG/practice tests/ SC/CR/RC 1000 etc. ?
  10. Congrats nkoss!! Ofcourse, I would like to read your de-briefing.
  11. Congrats, Akhilesh :tup: And thanks for nice de-brief and suggestions. All the best for ur apps!! Wanted one suggestion from u, my gmat is in a week's time. shud i continually work with GMATPrep exams by re-installing them or go for other tests also like ARCO, KAPLAN etc. BTW, I gave gmatprep-1 yesterday and got a 720(Q47, V42). Do u think this score is a good measure and is the real gmat tougher than Gmatprep?
  12. Yes, agree with Tablesalt- " D explains why insects congregate in the urban areas " - congregate is the key word here.
