  1. jay, I dont know whether i am qualified enough to say this but I would advice you to retake the test and leave the rest to destiny. You are going through a difficult phase but it will pass. 2 years later you wont even remember if this thing happened to you ;) Hope you do well in your next attempt and get a 750 + score.
  2. Google search on sample essays and recommendation letters. With experience you will learn that ultimately you will have to do your own home work. Sample essays will be copied by so many individuals and yours will be one of them. Similar is the case with sample recommendation letters. Be original , be creative. You will be better off.
  3. Hello, Do you feel that with a good night's sleep you will be able to get above 740 the next time you take the test. What if you get 750 or even a 760. What if you get a 730 ? What if the level of the verbal questions is raised the next time you take the test ? What if you get a hugely convoluted RC. Think about all these things before you spend those extra $250.
  4. congratulations biggamejames, you really deserve ur success.
  5. hello lokesh, I am in a similar quandary. Besides the fees, the amount of time needed is also huge. Have you gone thru the course content from scheweser. This will certainly remind you of your engg exams (i remember my compiler design paper)
  6. you will retake your GMAT with 710 ! This is quite rare.
  7. i took my gre 6 years ago. i scored a 2140 out of 2400... that is 713/800 i took my gmat 1 week ago, i scored a 720 out of 800... that is 720/800 you do the math now :)
  8. You mean the marshall school of business at USC ?
  9. That tantamounts to copyright violation. Kaplan would sue TM in this case. I dont think it is allowed and it should never be allowed.
  10. posted in the wrong forum, and what do you mean by ripped ?
  11. @Gschmilinsky : I do like GMAT Sets but only for Number property questions. Also,in all gmat sets, starting from question no 21, all the questions are difficult to solve in the allotted time span so you could only attempt those and save some time. As far as liking jj's over GMAT sets is concerned, i have no preference as such, but in hindsight, my reliance on jjs proved to be really helpful. As i had mentioned in my debrief, and as i will reiterate now, all the nice people visiting TM can easily solve all the questions but solving them in a tight time schedule is another ball game. I would like to bring in an analogy here. MBA entrance exams in India, test the ability of the candidate to solve a set of problems in an extremely short time span. They, I believe, are testing the candidates ability to perform under some sort of time pressure, which inevitably correlates to the concept of "deadlines" in the real world. This is what GMAT is doing. Throwing difficult questions at you and giving you extremely limited amount of time. Now this is where experience comes in. If you have the ability of learning from your own experience, then you can solve any problem if you have faced it in the past and solved it in the past. So I urge you guys to learn from my experience and subscribe to jj's. Also there is a likelihood that you might not get a single question from jj's. But if you are doing millions of questions from GMAT Sets and OG 11 and GMAT Prep, then what is the harm in doing a few more from the JJs. I think every month they release around 250 questions and all of them are truly representative of the real GMAT questions.
  12. @ Vik_gmat: My profile is a little different from the rest Male 28 , Indian IT --> Worked in an IT company for 1 year, Went to the US to do my masters in CS, Started a small business there --> made enough money --> Came back to India after completing my Masters --> Worked in IT --> Realized being self employed is much better ---> Started A medium scale manufacturing business but had a dispute with my partner ---> So relocated to another city and I am my managing my own funds using techniques that are normally employed by a hedge fund or a mutual fund. @BigGameJames -- In quant I would score like 48 to 49. But to tell u the truth, in the absence of JJs I would have scored only 45. It is not only the accuracy but also the saving on time that really matters. If you have not subscribed to JJ's please do so. You will definitely benefit if your exam is scheduled after the 15th of any month.
  13. The remaining maths question were tough to very tough. One of the questions was a simple PS but involved so many calculations that I felt like almost giving it up and moving on. Verbal Section ========== Verbal started off in the usual pattern. 2 SC's followed by 1 CR then by an SC and later followed by an RC. The RC's were ok. 2 of them were 40-45 lines each and 2 of them were 80 or more lines. There was one SC question where i felt that after eliminating the wrong choices, I was left with 2 choices that were ok or not ok to an equal extent. Anyways, I could get an inkling that I was not doing too well as there was no question where I had to rack my brains. All of them seemed simple but it seems that I was bungling on the SCs or CRs ( as my actual score shows) In the last 3-4 questions, I didnt even feel like answering the questions as I was too eager to know my score. Just went through the drill and clicked on show scores. Saw 720, was mildly relieved and more disappointed. Dont know what happened to me in Verbal. I always thought that it was my strength. Maybe the CRs or maybe the initial SC questions. God knows. Anyways now the real tough part begins, the application process which is as amitg_ind says, more daunting than the GMAT. thanks for listening to me.. .I will put in one more post which will detail my preparation strategy.
  14. IT professional from India is the MOST COMPETITIVE ARENA. your current score can only be helpful if it is backed up by extremely strong other factors. if you look around, many people with IT background (it seems there is no other background amongst the applicants in india) from india are getting scores in the range of 730+ .
  15. I will break my debrief into 2 parts. First the test experience, second the preparation. TEST EXPERIENCE ============== My test was scheduled at 1:15 PM. But I went in early at around 11:20 AM. Pearson staff was helpful and they told me that I could start right away. I waited for 10 minutes and then said " BRING IT ON" Fingerprinting, photographing were all done in 2 mins. Started with AW and AI. Feel I could have done better coz around 6 years ago, i wrote such wonderful love letters for my girlfriend. We broke up and the art of writing long winding "nothings" ditched me. Now all I write is debriefs and reviews of B grade Hollywood movies. Here I would like to say one thing, if you are in the habit of writing long explanatory emails to anyone then you are in comfort zone as far as AWA is concerned. If not then at least get your typing speed upto the mark. Coz in my opinion 30 minutes is too short a time to come up with a proof read, checked and "ready for publication" essay. Anyways coming to the Maths Part. 1) Guys (particularly for the macho techie background guys) in 4 words "IT HAS BECOME TOUGH". The difficulty level will keep on rising till the sixth question when you will be hit with a real toughie. I got a question based on an OCTAGON. and that too a DS. Another wisdom tooth that I was able to extract from my quant experience is that once the difficulty level that a candidate is comfortable with is ascertained by the software, the remaining questions will all be of the highest difficulty level. And I was pining for an easy question, not that hard questions bother me, but given a sword of time hanging over me, i would choose the easy questions any day. 2) And this brings me to the crux of my quant pedagogy. Guys most of you are capable of solving every single question given ample time and a relaxing massage but GMAT test setters are cruel sadists. They dont want to give you ample time (forget about the massage too) . So how do you beat the evil forces. By having FOREKNOWLEDGE of SOME QUESTIONS. This is where Jungle Juice comes in. Jungle Juice are a set of questions which are extremely representative of the real gmat questions. Before you think I am an ST mole on TM, I would like to say that TM is my favorite site for GMAT. Having foreknowledge of some questions not only grants you a LIKELY answer of those questions but also saves you the time. In my case, I got 8 eight Maths Jungle Juice (MJJ) questions. That means a time saving of (2 mins*8) - ( 10 seconds * 8 ) . Around 15 mins. That is huge by any standards. Also in my case the performance on the remaining questions is directly proportional to the time remaining. Lesser the time available , the more I commit silly mistakes. TO BE CONTINUED....
  16. Hello people, Just back from the test center. I am a little depressed. Thought I could better that considering the amount of time I spent on my weaknesses. Will write a HUGE debrief soon. Before I write that, I would like to profusely thank TM and all its members. Also one more thing before I write my Debrief, there are 2 sites that I frequented for GMAT related stuff, one is TM and the other is ST. TM is anyday my favorite. Will write soon, Seeker
  17. Wow dude, i was about to hit the sack tonite, but your post has energized me ! Congrats once again. May the force be with you :)
  18. OA is C, i have done this question so many times.
  19. For question 15, I feel the answer is E if we assume that there are some people who are neither students nor are they employed. The answer is C, if we assume that everyone in the group belongs to atleast one category.
  20. i think it means inserting number such that they divide the range proportionally. inserting one mean is like inserting a median, inserting 2 means (m1,m2) would be like divinding the line into 3 equal parts. 1/4 ---- m1 -----m2 ------39/4 and likewise.
  21. Mmesarina, I had faced a similar problem in this question. IF you go through OG 11, you will find that the question includes angle BAD as x. In the figure that you have attached, angle x is missing. Without this, the answer has to be E. But with the added information the answer becomes A.
