  1. Five years ago Jim was three times as old as Raoul and Monica was six years older than Raoul. If all three are still living in five years, which of the following must be true about their ages five years from now? I. Monica is older than Jim. II. Raoul is six years younger than Monica III. The combined ages of Jim and Raoul are more than Monica's age. (A) I only (B) II only © I and II (D) I and III (E) II and III
  2. Thanks guys. Correct answer is B.
  3. If x is an integer, is http://www.bellcurves.com/questionimages/Lorenzo%20Spirals%20DS-Algebra%20prepped_files/image001.gif (1) x = 3y (2) x – y = 1 (A) Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (2) is not sufficient. (B) Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (1) is not sufficient. © BOTH statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER statement ALONE is sufficient. (D) EACH statement ALONE is sufficient. (E) Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient.
  4. I agree with D but A does not have a modifier error as indicated by kannn. A - is incorrect because of "due to " When the opening phrase has the subject (his)as in case of A, the main clause does not need to begin with the subject. Don't fall into this trap.
  5. E is the only one that follows logically.
  6. Good question and great explanation by LegoLife. I was slightly confused between D and E. Convinced that it is E. Whats the OA?
  7. Answer is E as explained by others. ....the Incan highway was over 2,500 miles long, extending from northern Ecuador through Peru to Southern Chile. The last part is a participle phrase that modifies the Incan highway and so does not have to agree in tense with built. Also, the Incan highway was over 2,500 miles long is not non-essential and cannot be removed from the sentence since it contains the subject of the sentence
  8. Sorry for the typo guys. Thanks for the responses. OA is B.
  9. Agree with D. This was a easy example of misplaced modifier.
  10. The answer should be C. Words like coordinate, cooperate need to follow this construct: coordinated with , cooperated with A, B, E - incorrect because of them D - awkward construct and needs a comma after illustrations
  11. For Question 1- A is correct: p(2) = 1 p(3) = 2, 1 p(5) = 4, 3, 2,1 Hence, p-1. Please note that the question says other than 1. 1 is a factor of 1 and hence should be includes as a common factor. -G
  12. I agree with lsr - A is the correct answer. Here the announced effect: Removing the boxes will reduce the number of prank calls without hampering people’s ability to report a fire. C has not impact on it.
