  1. Sam, I don't know exactly how it works but I have read in many forums that it is better to guess and answer all the questions rather than leaving them unanswered. I have heard that there is a huge penalty for not answering all the questions. Timing and accuracy are the most important aspects for excelling in GMAT. Initially you should concentrate on your accuracy and once you start showing improvement and as your exam is nearing you should concentrate more on timing. The secret of people who score 750+ is that they manage thre time very well. I faced this timing problem hence could not ace or rather secure a score according to my expectations. So, try to be as quick as possible ( and obviously with accuracy) and give yourself that extra time . Practice with difficult problems try to solve them within 1 minute. Do LSAT RC and CR. I bet you next time you will nail the GMAT. All the best.
  2. I am sorry dude. I am not aware of that . I did not compare the 1000CR with LSAT CR but I remember my friend telling me that both the documents are the same. For RC I had only one document i.e. 1000RC which itself has many LSAT RC questions. So, you can as well use the same. Answering to your next question : POWERPREP is not as difficult as real GMAT ( this is only my opinion) but you should take POWERPREP also as this gives valuable practice. One more thing always try to give full length tests . I mean you should give the test along with your essays. It builds your stamina :)
  3. Thanks to one and all. Yes 1000CR and 1000RC have LSAT questions. So, work on them. They will be really useful. For SC - Practice, Pracice and more practice. No other go for people who are not good at it. Yes the 800 scores are recent .
  4. First time when I took Powerprep . I found the verbal really tough. Then I solved OG11, OG10 and Manhattan SC and 1000 SC. Later I came to know about LSAT from this forum and solved some LSAT CR ans RC questions. After that I gave the remaining exams of powereprep and GMATprep. I could find the difference. I felt the exams relatively a lot easier. Kaplan is ridiculously tough. Never mind about the score but make sure you give those exams. They help you build stamina for the main exam. I felt the real exam bit tougher than powerprep or GMATPREP. One more thing if you are planning to score 700+ then target for 750+ so that even if its your worst day you will end up gtting atleast 700.
  5. First I would like to thank the forum for all the help it has provided me [clap]. My details Name:Ashwin Kumar Occupation: Software Engineering. ( hate my job) Qualification:BE Computer Science Location:Bangalore, India Experience: 2years. Frankly speaking I was a bit disappointed with the score.I got bit nervous that could have been the problem I guess. My GMAT prepration and experience: The actual Exam was more or less the same as GMATPREP. I f you can control your anxiety I guess the scores predicted by GMATPREP almost exactly will reflect your actual Exam. My strengths: 1. Quant (:( but some how did not have luck on D-day) I hardly had any practice except during my mock tests. 2. CR (LSAT, OG11) ( Really strong but somehow was not satisfied with my performance on the day. I was not confident about 2 questions.) 3. RC (LSAT, OG11) - ( Very slow reader - about 200 words per minute to be precise but have a decent comprehension at about 80%) Weakness: 1. SC ( one thing that always pulled down my score . I spent almost all 5 months of my prep on this and I could not master it. I am not a native English speaker you see :( :( ) Please refer Manhattan SC. I guess there is no other substitute for it Mock tests: GMATPREP I: 680 (Q49, V34) ( Got 770 the next time I took the same, only because it started of with CR and then RC) II: 730 (Q50, V40) POWERPREP I: 660 (Q50, V II:730 (Q49, V41) Kaplan : (590,550,590,560) Princeton: ( 800 Score: V (37,37,34,38,38) - Pretty Useful stuff. D-day: Got pretty simple topics for both "issue" and "argument". Somehow could not complete the concluding sentence in the "issue" essay. Quant: I would not like to discuss much about this. I guess I was bit callous in my approach towards the section. I guess I would have messed up with DS - One thing where one can commit lot of mistakes, which I think I did. Verbal: My first question itself was a bouncer. Some weird SC for which I think I spent about 2.5 minutes and I am pretty sure I would have got that wrong. I think only RC and to some extent CR would have saved me from getting a pathetic score. I have plenty of resources to share with all relating to Verbal , wish I was allowed to share here. Even if I share it, will be removed within a day or two as it is a copyright violation. My sincere suggestion: Try to get as many right as possible at the beginning of your test even if it costs some extra time because once U mess up in the beginning itself there is hardly any chance for recovery
  6. E is the OA. Source:set22 - 34Q
  7. There are already blogs maintained for this probably we could have the discussions there itself. http://thousandsc.blogspot.com/ http://gmatwikigrammar.blogspot.com/

  9. D is concise and a better choice over A. In choice A "one reason why .... because" is wordy I feel.
  10. It changes the original meaning of the sentence which is trying to convey that the cat has to visit the doctor but in "B" it means that the doctor has to visit the CAT.
  11. It should be "one class in history ....one class in biology" and not just "one in biology" .
  12. Not only a good construction but also an idiom as well. :-) Just as X .. so Y
  13. E is wrong because of the usage of "compared to" .When two similar things are compared we should use "compare with" or "compared with" in this case.
  14. Thanks a lot Gmat stress. I was able to download and install the software but it prompts me to enter the first word in the Acknowledgment section of the text book for taking the test but I dont have the textbook. So, could you let me know the first word in that section.
  15. Here two actions are being compared. So, I feel like should not be used here.
  16. I feel C is the best of the lot though not a very convincing answer.
  17. I could not understand C. I felt B is the best of the lot.
  18. For the first one D is not a very convincing answer because the first bold part does not explain the strategy only the subsequent sentence does that. Only thing is it is the best of the choices as the second part is a judgment.
  19. C is the answer. In the question Jordan comes up with a problem which he thinks is like holding a doubled edged sword. but Terry implies things could be fine the way they are. Similar reasoning is provided in option C
  20. Here the argument is whether they could save on the "Renaissance oil paintings" or not by relaxing the temp and humidity control . For this D is more appropriate assumption than C, I feel. Please comment on this guys.
