  1. Yeah, that sounds like a good plan. but please review manhattan sc before og and again after.
  2. yeah, no prob MGMAT Tests 1 - 590 2 - 610 3 - 650 4 - 650 5 - 670 (a little over one week before) After that I focused on OG Quant (2nd run through) and Verbal Sets
  3. Yo mootet, I was in the same boat. I always knew I was good at quant, but my first GMAT attempt yielded me a quant score of 37!!! Which is a 50th% or so. Absolutely horrible... But my overall strategy was simple...got the content down and knew that I was not going to reach 49-50 unless I was going to spend a lot more hours than I was ready to spend. Then I did exactly what I told you, spent less more time on the easy to medium questions. A few times during the quant section, I noticed I made some errors along the way. For instance, I would find the % increase instead of the % decrease. I started to reread what the question was asking for before I selected an answer. I caught two errors during my test a few days ago simply by doing that! And it doesn't matter if you think your quant it bad, you can mos def hit a decent quant score. Just utilize the people on this forum (whose math skills are legendary!) Here are some more resources that I used (some more than others, but all still pretty good) Bellcurves (tried it briefly, it was decent) MGMAT Math books (good) Veritas material on Permutations, Combinations, and Probability WinGMAT (good place to go if you are struggling in the beginning, helps to build a foundation) Practice on the OG books, and be sure to pay close attention to number properties hth
  4. Hey all, Feels good to finally say that I crossed the 90th% mark. I've taken the exam before and fared much worse. I changed my approach completely, and it worked magically. All you need to do is PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. Stress is the biggest score deflator...trust me...my first attempt 6 weeks ago got me a 610! Few take aways... Content is key...learn all the concepts inside and out. Easier said than done. Im a native speaker, and the Manhattan SC book was still beneficial. I read that book at least 4 times. By having that knowledge ingrained in my brain allowed me to fly through SC questions within 30 seconds. This allowed more time for RC and CR. PACE YOURSELF. Man o man did this help me a lot. When I reached a mind-boggling question, I did my best to eliminate and move on. Staying relaxed and not pining over tough questions did wonders for me. Its amazing how focusing on the easy and medium-level questions really improves your score. I only did a few tests, a couple from MGMAT and ofcourse, GMAT Prep. GMATPrep is very reflective of the test. MGMATs scoring algorithm is the next best thing. Their math is tough, but good practice. Their verbal questions are not that accurate. The VERBAL SETS were key. They had the biggest impact on my score. The RC passages are FAR FAR FAR tougher than what I encountered on the GMAT. Also, I didnt see a single boldface. So if you don't see one, don't let it stress you out. This forum has been helpful. Im around for specific questions. I read LOTS of debriefs and took something away from each one. Hopefully I can lend a helping hand to others.
  5. Answer is D. The reason his short stories were classics is due to his 'famed and masterful use of irony', not b/c of 'he slowly revealed a twist of fate' see here...http://www.www.urch.com/forums/gmat-sentence-correction/75792-brutal-sc-53-a.html
  6. If a and b are both single-digit positive integers, is a + b a multiple of 3? (1) The two-digit number "ab" (where a is in the tens place and b is in the ones place) is a multiple of 3. (2) a – 2b is a multiple of 3. OA to follow...
  7. Sorry folks, I don't have any of the answer choices...but hopefully of you brilliant mathmeticians will be able to assist...im just confused how to approach this one... x^4-y^4 = 175 ??
  8. If [x] is the greatest integer less than or equal to x, what is the value of [-1.6] + [3.4] + [2.7]? (A) 3 (B) 4 © 5 (D) 6 (E) 7
  9. If the ratio of x to y is 2 to 5 and the ratio of z to y is 7 to 6, what is the ratio of x to z? (A) 2 : 7 (B) 5 : 6 © 12 : 35 (D) 17 : 40 (E) 20 : 43 PLEASE EXPLAIN. I understand that Y is the common element, but I don't know how to proceed. Thanks in advance. OA to follow...
  10. Hey All, im a bit lost...an explanation is appreciated... An investment of d dollars at k percent simple annual interest yields $600 interest over a 2 year period. In terms of d, what dollar amount invested at the same rate will yield $2400 interest over a 3 year period? a. 2d/4 b. 3d/4 c.4d/3 d. 3d/2 e. 8d/3 Please Explain. :)
  11. if i had the explanation i would post it...but i dont have one...hence, my original post Anybody want to give it their best shot?
  12. In experiments in which certain kinds of bacteria were placed in a generous supply of nutrients, the populations of bacteria grew rapidly, and genetic mutations occurred at random in the populations. These experiments show that all genetic mutation is random. Which one of the following, if true, enables the conclusion to be properly drawn? (A) Either all genetic mutations are random or none are random. (B) The bacteria tested in the experiments were of extremely common forms. © If all genetic mutations in bacteria are random, then all genetic mutations in every other life form are random also. (D) The kind of environment in which genetic mutation takes place has no effect on the way genetic mutation occurs. (E) The nutrients used were the same as those that nourish the bacteria in nature. Please explain!
  13. Well this contains some convoluted language... I agree with preeet that C and D are the best choice. But yes, D is the best choice. Here is why: -With ans. choice C, we do not know whether the person asking the question is biased. -D asks whether they will "continue" to discriminate...THATS the presuppostion...the person asking is assuming (but not judging-ie bias) basically, one needs to remember that you cannot go too far with CR. Take only what is listed in the stem. now if the questioner stated 'I believe you will continue to discriminate, will you?" then C would be correct. hope that helps
  14. hmm... since the conclusion of the argument is "the actions of the recording industry will have a minimal impact on the number of people who illegally download music." our answer seeks to clarify this conclusion with a question. my opinion is E...will the threat of prosecution alter the behavior of those who illegally download music? I think E targets the conclusion b/c it mentions both 'actions' and 'people'.
