  1. Yeah, that sounds like a good plan. but please review manhattan sc before og and again after.
  2. yeah, no prob MGMAT Tests 1 - 590 2 - 610 3 - 650 4 - 650 5 - 670 (a little over one week before) After that I focused on OG Quant (2nd run through) and Verbal Sets
  3. Yo mootet, I was in the same boat. I always knew I was good at quant, but my first GMAT attempt yielded me a quant score of 37!!! Which is a 50th% or so. Absolutely horrible... But my overall strategy was simple...got the content down and knew that I was not going to reach 49-50 unless I was going to spend a lot more hours than I was ready to spend. Then I did exactly what I told you, spent less more time on the easy to medium questions. A few times during the quant section, I noticed I made some errors along the way. For instance, I would find the % increase instead of the % decrease. I started to reread what the question was asking for before I selected an answer. I caught two errors during my test a few days ago simply by doing that! And it doesn't matter if you think your quant it bad, you can mos def hit a decent quant score. Just utilize the people on this forum (whose math skills are legendary!) Here are some more resources that I used (some more than others, but all still pretty good) Bellcurves (tried it briefly, it was decent) MGMAT Math books (good) Veritas material on Permutations, Combinations, and Probability WinGMAT (good place to go if you are struggling in the beginning, helps to build a foundation) Practice on the OG books, and be sure to pay close attention to number properties hth
  4. Hey all, Feels good to finally say that I crossed the 90th% mark. I've taken the exam before and fared much worse. I changed my approach completely, and it worked magically. All you need to do is PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. Stress is the biggest score deflator...trust me...my first attempt 6 weeks ago got me a 610! Few take aways... Content is key...learn all the concepts inside and out. Easier said than done. Im a native speaker, and the Manhattan SC book was still beneficial. I read that book at least 4 times. By having that knowledge ingrained in my brain allowed me to fly through SC questions within 30 seconds. This allowed more time for RC and CR. PACE YOURSELF. Man o man did this help me a lot. When I reached a mind-boggling question, I did my best to eliminate and move on. Staying relaxed and not pining over tough questions did wonders for me. Its amazing how focusing on the easy and medium-level questions really improves your score. I only did a few tests, a couple from MGMAT and ofcourse, GMAT Prep. GMATPrep is very reflective of the test. MGMATs scoring algorithm is the next best thing. Their math is tough, but good practice. Their verbal questions are not that accurate. The VERBAL SETS were key. They had the biggest impact on my score. The RC passages are FAR FAR FAR tougher than what I encountered on the GMAT. Also, I didnt see a single boldface. So if you don't see one, don't let it stress you out. This forum has been helpful. Im around for specific questions. I read LOTS of debriefs and took something away from each one. Hopefully I can lend a helping hand to others.
  5. Answer is D. The reason his short stories were classics is due to his 'famed and masterful use of irony', not b/c of 'he slowly revealed a twist of fate' see here...http://www.www.urch.com/forums/gmat-sentence-correction/75792-brutal-sc-53-a.html
  6. If a and b are both single-digit positive integers, is a + b a multiple of 3? (1) The two-digit number "ab" (where a is in the tens place and b is in the ones place) is a multiple of 3. (2) a – 2b is a multiple of 3. OA to follow...
  7. Sorry folks, I don't have any of the answer choices...but hopefully of you brilliant mathmeticians will be able to assist...im just confused how to approach this one... x^4-y^4 = 175 ??
  8. If [x] is the greatest integer less than or equal to x, what is the value of [-1.6] + [3.4] + [2.7]? (A) 3 (B) 4 © 5 (D) 6 (E) 7
  9. If the ratio of x to y is 2 to 5 and the ratio of z to y is 7 to 6, what is the ratio of x to z? (A) 2 : 7 (B) 5 : 6 © 12 : 35 (D) 17 : 40 (E) 20 : 43 PLEASE EXPLAIN. I understand that Y is the common element, but I don't know how to proceed. Thanks in advance. OA to follow...
  10. Hey All, im a bit lost...an explanation is appreciated... An investment of d dollars at k percent simple annual interest yields $600 interest over a 2 year period. In terms of d, what dollar amount invested at the same rate will yield $2400 interest over a 3 year period? a. 2d/4 b. 3d/4 c.4d/3 d. 3d/2 e. 8d/3 Please Explain. :)
  11. if i had the explanation i would post it...but i dont have one...hence, my original post Anybody want to give it their best shot?
  12. In experiments in which certain kinds of bacteria were placed in a generous supply of nutrients, the populations of bacteria grew rapidly, and genetic mutations occurred at random in the populations. These experiments show that all genetic mutation is random. Which one of the following, if true, enables the conclusion to be properly drawn? (A) Either all genetic mutations are random or none are random. (B) The bacteria tested in the experiments were of extremely common forms. © If all genetic mutations in bacteria are random, then all genetic mutations in every other life form are random also. (D) The kind of environment in which genetic mutation takes place has no effect on the way genetic mutation occurs. (E) The nutrients used were the same as those that nourish the bacteria in nature. Please explain!
  13. Well this contains some convoluted language... I agree with preeet that C and D are the best choice. But yes, D is the best choice. Here is why: -With ans. choice C, we do not know whether the person asking the question is biased. -D asks whether they will "continue" to discriminate...THATS the presuppostion...the person asking is assuming (but not judging-ie bias) basically, one needs to remember that you cannot go too far with CR. Take only what is listed in the stem. now if the questioner stated 'I believe you will continue to discriminate, will you?" then C would be correct. hope that helps
  14. hmm... since the conclusion of the argument is "the actions of the recording industry will have a minimal impact on the number of people who illegally download music." our answer seeks to clarify this conclusion with a question. my opinion is E...will the threat of prosecution alter the behavior of those who illegally download music? I think E targets the conclusion b/c it mentions both 'actions' and 'people'.
  15. very nice my friend! im due in 4 weeks...getting a bit nervous...please detail your study plan...especially during the last several weeks... once again, congrats!
  16. Lego, I thought about A for the second one as well. Could you elaborate?
  17. 1. E - cant say either way whether its positive or not. anne's examples could be negatively reinforced as was Reva's. Anne is providing info stating there are many other cases where it has worked, pointing out west virginia is an outlier. hence, E. 2. E - as Aru said above
  18. Ok. I see your confusion. First thing to keep in mind is scope. By reading the stimulus, one can conclude the following: -Election is of concern to the U.S. -Present party has ties to U.S. -Socialist party expected to win...leading to fears that Ganelon will break away from the pro-american bloc and adapt an anti-american stance. D starts off by saying socialist party leaders believe their nations interest would best be served by an alliance with anti-american forces. This is not an assumption because this is diving way too deep and is out of scope. Party leaders' beliefs are mentioned nowhere. A - there is no support from the U.S. point of view that the socialists will be anti-american. The argument in the stimulus is going in a direction that assumes anti-americanism. A is also within scope and doesnt add extraneous info (as D did). Hope this helps.
  19. I think... 1-A 2-E Reasoning... The first is a toss up between A and B...I believe that it's A simply b/c the so-called 'argument' they are referring to begins in the blurb with the word 'However'. The argument is that REGARDLESS of the medical records and little or no pollution, there were still deaths. And since in the conclusion of the blurb it states that medical records were OK, this would lead me to believe that B DOES provide support. Therefore A. The second one is an always-fun assumption question…my reasoning for E is as follows. Surely there can't be so few causes of death from Asthma. The argument is limiting the possibilities. A says that Urban population has not doubled. This is not an assumption since the argument says more or less the same thing. B could throw off some people (especially since it introduces another possibility)…so lets leave it for now. C and D - seem out of scope to me… E - The argument says that since pollution and medical records aren’t the causes, inhalers HAVE to be…it completely disregards other possibilities. Of course, I may very well be wrong, but hey, it helps to write out one's thoughts...
  20. also remember, passive voice deals with the subject of a sentence having the action performed on it...rather than the subject performing the action (which is active voice) and yes, very good point about the addition of 'and' in a series...
  21. Just send the adcom a link to a few of your math threads on this forum, that way they'll be able to see your mad skills! So you've taken quite a few Manhattan tests...can you give your 2 cents on the quality of those tests? Also, when you ran into a verbal problem (from the sets) that you didn't understand, did you post here for explanations or did you already have all the Sets Explanations? thanks.
  22. RETAKE!? Are you craaazy? YOU held it down like gravity this time...haha Congrats! I knew you'd kill it!
  23. Could you guys please provide an explanation rather than simply putting "d" It looks as though there def. is a typo...so based on that, could one of you please elaborate? I've been stuck on this ? for a while...
