  1. Is ((x - 5)^2)^(1/2) = 5 - x? ((x - 5)^2)^(1/2) = 5 - x if x =x-5 if x>5 Now we need to find out if x Case A: - x │x│> 0 According to this statement x is negative ( which also means that x Case B: 5 - x > 0 From this x Hence D.
  2. Good explanation Makumajon. It should be B
  3. Statement 2. X>-1. Divide this into two cases. First case -11. First case: |X| is not greater than 1 (it is greater than zero) for -1 Second case: |x| is greater than 1 when x>1. Two contradicting answers. So b is also not sufficient. Combining 1 and 2, X-1. So -1 Sufficient. Hence C Correct me if I am wrong
  4. Good explanation Ankost and Krovvidy.
  5. Good mathematical explanation Mukumajon.
  6. IMO E A,B,D are out because of "expressed". Rest of the sentence is present tense. So there is no need for past tense. Between C and E, E is better. In C, the usage of "when"s wrong here.
  7. Nice work mukumajon. Answer is A
  8. Agree with Lhomme explanation.
  9. Yep, Sorry for the wrong symbol. I edited my post. Thank you very much leanmeanprepforgmat.
  10. Agree with Mannu08's explanation. Answer should be B.
  11. Gibrain, Please see below. Statement 1: It says Of the members of Club X, 20 percent are also members of Club Y. What it means is X ∩ Y=0.2X not suff. Statement 2: Of the members of Club Y, 30 percent are also members of Club X. Also, what it means is X ∩ Y=0.3Y not suff. Combining 1 and 2, X ∩ Y=0.2X=0.3Y so 0.2X=0.3Y X=1.5Y Sufficient. Hence C.
  12. Statement 1: x^2+y^2=25 Not suff Statement 2: xy=12 Not Suff Combining 1 and 2, (X+Y)^2=x^2+y^2+2xy=25+24=49 so x+y=7 or -7 from this and xy=7, we can solve for x. x+12/x=7 x^2-7x+12=0 so x=3 or 4. Similarly x can be -3 or -4 Hence not Suff Hence E.
  13. "leanmeanprepforgmat"....please be careful before you assume some thing. Here Y>0 means, y can be any number that is greater than 0. So it can be 0.1 or 1. You r assuming that y is an integer, which is not given in the question specifically. Agree with Krovvidy explanation.
