  1. Durham is a cesspool of crime, Chapel Hill is pretty nice, however a bit isolated. Recognition, Duke has a far greater reputation the farther away from that region you get.
  2. an ARM is a calculated risk. If interest rates go up, your on the losing end. If they go down, you're making out alright. You do get the benefit of a lower interest rate during the fixed period (3/5/7years). You can always refinance during that time as well. I am currently on my 3rd year of a 5/1 ARM and will be refinancing next month to a 30yr fixed. Originally planned on my current place just being a starter home, however with me going to business school, we're likely to be there a bit longer.
  3. has anyone been notified via phone that they weren't admitted? I had a voice mail regarding an admission decision, called back and got their voice mail. Pretty anxious to hear and can't get any work done in the mean time.
  4. PCV, are you currently enrolled somewhere? The only straight math I took in college was Calc and I got a B+. I took accounting and got an A. I guess I should try a couple of Economics or maybe a Stat course? Is two classes enough?
  5. what classes should I retake? Most of my subpar grades were science courses or humanities electives. Should I take math based business courses, management courses, or a combination? I see that Bunker Hill is pretty cheap and offers a spring mini session, two summer sessions (although I'll be gone for most of one) and then there are fall courses. Could reasonably get 3-5 courses completed in that time. My company reimburses 4k/year. I guess the only problem I see with this is conflict with GMAT preparation and delay in applications. While MIT would be nice, I think BU, BC, or Babson would be very good for what I want to accomplish. Would the fact that I have had three promotions in 4 years in a field that is driven by understanding the material I was taught in college and then some not be indicative of having a good grasp on the undergraduate material? and once again gentleman, thank you very much for your feedback.
  6. I have long standing releationships with both of them as it started as a small company. Both know me personally and professionally. Thanks for you time by the way.
  7. If I am submitting applications this fall (for 2008 admission), wouldn't it be too late to start trying to get the alternative resume? Not sure this matters too much, but I had a 3.4 in my business management minor. Of course I can take course at Harvard Extension in the meantime, however that couldn't be until fall of this year.
  8. 640 is pretty good for a baseline score. The difference between the diagnostic, as opposed to the CAT, is that it doesn't vary the difficulty of questions if you get one correct or incorrect. Its a smattering of varying difficulty questions geared towards giving you a jumping point. The CAT will actually adjust as you chose correct or incorrectly
  9. Please Evaluate: -30yr old white male currently residing in Boston. -Horrible undergrad GPA 2.6 Zoology (Pre Medicine/Pre Dental Cirriculum) from a State School. Social Fraternity (complete lack of effort/priorities) -6 years work experience in Biotech/Pharmaceutical Research -Current company is 5 years old, have worked there 4 of those years (just went public last year). Have been promoted 3 of those 4 years (spent a great deal of my free time reading/studying to make up for undergrad failures). -Published in my field of work (once as primary author, twice as contributing author, nearly 10 posters/abstracts) -Served on Social (party planning) Committee and Benefits (401k, health insurance, etc.) Committee at current employer -Have strong references from CEO (Chairman of the Board), CBO (HBS Alumn), and CSO (PhD from MIT), and former VP (currently employed by MIT). -Wife employed by MIT -Have also recently stated my ambitions to employer who has been very supportive....offering me a transitional role to gain experience -Looking to change career path, staying in the same industry, but working on the business development side of things rather than being a bench scientist. -Short term career goals would be to work in biotech/pharm in a business development role to gain experience -Long term career goals to start a company with Wife (with support of VP mentioned above...who was part of two successful biotech IPOs). Both the VP and wife are considered near top in their field for what we'll be trying to do industrially -Planning to apply for Fall 2008 admissions. Currently studying for the GMAT...Kaplan practice test score of 580 (with extremely little preparation). Realistically, what range would I need to score in to get into my reach school (MIT), and other local schools (Boston U, Babson, Boston College) given my credentials listed above? Thanks in advance for the help you provide all of us. Also, what else can I do to make myself more marketable to said schools in the next few months?
