  1. Aru, I'd suggest that you don't read too much into ur Kaplan CAT scores. Take these tests purely for practice. The VA questions are good for practice ,though not very representative of the real test. And Kap quant is way different from what you would most probably see in the GMAT.In this regard, MGMAT quant problems are fairly similar to actual GMAT problems.
  2. OK..Thanks jaybird..I think now the source is reliable ..lol
  3. Hi fin3sse, Can you specify the source from which you learnt that a 4+ is good for the top bschools? Even I got a 4.5 , thanks to the issue based essay which I kind of screwed up royally failing to substantiate my claims with adequately strong examples.
  4. Hope my last post gives you some directions to ponder over the difference and the incorrectness of the first option.
  5. Well, by convention, non-restrictive adverbial modifiers are generally found at the trailing part of a sentence though I can't say with conviction if that is the rule. In the current example, after ten years of fundraising is supposed to modify the verb founded and is therefore better placed at the end of the sentence as in option B of the original example. Note, in general we put non-restrictive Adjectival phrases within commas in the middle of a sentence. For example: My friend ,who is a journalist, passed this piece of information to me. Here who is a journalist modifies friend and is therefore a non-restrictive Adjectival modifier (Non-restrictive because, it provides only additional information about the noun friend) Now, introducing a non-restrictive adverbial modifier, we can change the above sentence to the following. My friend ,who is a journalist, passed this piece of information to me,after hours of investigation.
  6. Please discuss this in the GMAT Math section. The thread is not appropriate to this section.
  7. Well not really but just wanted to spice up the quant thread with something that could be solved with GMAT concepts
  8. Hey vrider, Congratualtions Man!!! That score can by no means put you in ambivalence. Perfectly balanced and awesome score. Enjoy !! Thanks for your advice! I'll certainly observe them.
  9. A quickie.. 2^(x+y)^2/2^(x-y)^2 = 2 ^ [ (x+y)^2 - (x-y)^2] = 2^(4xy) ( Because (x+y)^2 - (x-y)^2 = 4xy ) =2^4 = 16 Note : No assumption of integral values of x and y required here. The ans is independent of the nature of values x and y take.
  10. Yep..You got it right! ( at least that's what I wanted to convey :-)
  11. I'm also trying to keep myself busy with only OG ,as far as CR is concerned with some retakes of the GMATPrep CAT VA section. Vrider ,I completely feel the same way when I find myself overwhelmed with too many CR questions in a row right at the beginning of the VA section. Hope I don't experience the same thing in the real test.Attacking a few SCs at the beginning of the section helps in warming up without screwing up. But then this pattern is possibly experimented by the gmat CAT algorithm on those who score good on the QA section.May be this just acts like a speedbreaker :( For example, even on the last MGMAT, I was slapped an RC passage right at the beginning :hmm: ATB to you and Jaybird for the test !!
  12. As far as the sets are concerned, my performance in Verbal has been not very impressive. I almost always end up screwing up the CR questions. Also I end up investing too much of time pondering over the same. This results in my not being able to complete all the 41 questions on time. Coming to MGMAT verbal ,CR again poses the biggest hurdle. SC is OK and RC scores keep fluctuating though I don't really have any difficulty in grasping the passages. In the last mgmat ( #6), I screwed CR bigtime .Got only 5 out of 14 correct :doh::doh:.. My gmat date is drawing near ..less than a week to go...Need to ramp up on CR
  13. Took the last one today (MGMAT-6) .Ended up with a 750 (Q 51,V 41) with 4 mistakes in QA and 14 mistakes in VA :-(
  14. Depends on the original sentence. The correctness of the option would depend on whether the option preserves the meaning of the original sentence.
  15. Difference : First of all, "After ten years of fundraising" is an introductory adverbial phrase (of time). Note that fundraising is a noun (not verb). In A, the adverbial phrase "After ten years of fundraising" modifies the verb "founded". In B, the phrase "After ten years of fundraising" is a non-restrictive (or parenthetical ,conveying additional information) adverbial phrase. So we can drop the phrase in B without loosing much of the meaning of the sentence.
  16. Can't say much about CRs but LSAT RCs are simply superb !!!
  17. cooldude, though I'm still a gmat novice, I'd suggest you to do ONLY OG and nothing ELSE
  18. Try to get hold of the MGMAT challenging problems archive available in the files section of the yahoo group gmatnetwork Also, if you are QUANT hungry, you may want to visit the intermediate forum of the following artofproblemsolving.com. You'll get access to a galaxy of international mathematic competition and a whole range of challenging problems. However, the caveat is that they would ususally be way beyond the general standard of quant problems in the GMAT
  19. Guys...it's an ooooooooold thread ...note the post date 05-12-2005, 11:51 PM
  20. All your queries will get answered here ...PaGaLGuY.com - The Everything of MBA, CAT 2007, GMAT, XAT, SNAP, IIM - Home
  21. Where did you guys get the solutions/explanations to gmat sets from? I was only able to get the soft copies ,which have only the keys,of the sets. Also I find consecutive sets overlapping each other in terms of at least 5-6 qs. This is really very disappointing especially when you find some questions that you attempted just the previous day. Any thoughts ?
  22. Condition (1) If we set n=1,2,3, p Again if we set n = 5 or more, p >= 308400 > 38000 violating 3,800 So the only possible value of n = 4 whence p = 30840. This makes cond 1 suff. Condtions (2).. 10^4 p is a 5 digit number whence we must have n = 4 (why?) so that p equals 30840. Hence cond 2 is also suff
