  1. start with OG11 and princeton review....actually I think the latter is the best book to start with and try to finish the PR book in one week or so.
  2. Sorry guys I was away and still am. Vellajain: From my scores you can imagine that my Verbal success rate initially was around 29C, it increased to 33C-34C and eventually around 38C. Keep working on improving areas of weakness. Your second question about Deltacourse, I did not take that course so have no clue. But Kaplan800 and OG are good enough. Perms.& Combs. please try to solve some simple extra problems in addition to Kaplan800 and OG just to boost your confidence. Zickerman: Thanks mate! I need the luck. SGMAT: I reason I made that comment is because, I noticed in the two GMATPrep practice tests even though I made 10-11 errors in Math section and plenty of mistakes in the verbal section I still managed scores of 690 and 730. So I knew the GMAT scoring algorithm is very different from any of other testing material I had used.
  3. Actually really did not prepare for it. Looked at a few solved examples just to get some idea on how to approach the essays question. I do not expect to get more than 4.0 on AWA..lets see what happens.
  4. Sure sgmat Quantitative Preparation I have an engineering background, so quant was never a big problem for me. But as I practised I noticed that problems related to factors, divisibility and mods were my weak areas . For my quant preparation I did the following five things: 1) OG11 solved every single problem. Last 25 problems in DS are the kind of problems you would see on actual GMAT. 2) Kaplan 800 problems (these problems though fun are not like actual GMAT). 3) I used to carefully analyze my errors in Quant section for all my tests. I think I got 9-10 errors in Quant section in both my GMATPrep tests and yet my score was Q50. So I knew GMATPrep forgives and plus the whole concept of those 10 hidden experimental questions helps. 4) I used to religiously log on to this website to check the latest DS and problem solving questions put by other users. The discussions helped and sometimes answering others clarified my own thoughts. 5) Permutations, Combinations and Probability: There is no point spending time on these things more than knowing the basics and putting it in practise. Be ready to solve coin problems, choosing a team of four from 8 people etc. Do not go overboard on this.
  5. Please refer to the AWA section of Princeton Review or OG. You can do much better, your responses lack structure to begin with. Write 4-5 well written paragraphs to get 4.5+ score.
  6. Hi All, Wanted to share my experiences and hopefully will be able to provide some insights. Preparation time: 50-55 days Study guides used: Official Guide 11, Official Verbal book, Manhattan SC pdf, Kalpan 800 and Princeton Review Book. Timeline 1) Started with Princeton Review, finished it in a week and gave my first Princeton CAT 1, score: 630 (strong quant, weak verbal). 2) After this I started solving Official Guide 11 problems religiously. I used to write concept of Sentence Correction in a separate notebook all throughout my preparation. I used to revise these notes regularly to make sure these GMAT principles are flowing in my blood. 3) While I was still working on OG 11, I gave two Kaplan tests. I got 550 in both of them. I read somewhere you can add 100 to your scores, so I took them positively thinking that from 630, I have moved to 650! 4) Continued working on OG11 for 3-4 weeks and used to give 800score.com tests one test every week. I used to get almost full in quant but my verbal score was around 34 on these tests. 5) After finishing my OG11 once, I gave another Princeton Review test and this time again got 650. With one month left, I used to wonder if I am doing good or not as so far 650 had been my best score. 6) I quickly skimmed through the Manhattan Guide on Sentence Correction. It is a good book and along with all my notes and problem solving helped me improve on Sentence Correction. In the mean time I also started working on Kalpan 800 for the next two weeks. 7) Two weeks before my GMAT. I gave another Princeton Review test got another 650. Did not lose heart as I always felt I had not peaked yet in my performance. 8) I gave a Manhattan Free GMAT too and got a 590 on it. This will really shook me and I spoke with a close friend who told me to continue focussing on my weaknesses and the results would start showing up. 9) Continued working on Kaplan 800 and in addition started working on Official Guide verbal book. Sometimes questions were repeated from OG11 in this book. But knowing the concept is more important. 10) A week ago from GMAT. I gave my final Princeton Review CAT4 and got a 670. Like I said, keep working on improving your score. So seeing a 670, I got happy. My critical reasoning was strong by now and my SC and RC were getting there. Two days after the 670, I gave my first GMATprep and got a 690 (Q50, V34). This will really pumped me and I was sure that the scoring algo on GMAT is far more easy going as I made plenty of mistakes on the test. 11) Five days from the test, I was left with one 800score.com test and my last official GMAT test. I got a Q50 V38 on my 800score.com test and yesterday I had given my final GMAT prep test. I had scored a 730( Q50 V38 or 39), so it gave me a lot of confidence. 12) I had spend the entire day yesterday going through mistakes on this test, revising my notes and basically chilling. Slept early and woke up early. TEST DAY 13) Had breakfast, coffee and packed some snack for the break. Warmed up my brain by solving 5-6 problems of DS, PR, SC and CR. 14) I saw primarily Indians giving the test, felt like my undergraduate college lab...(joking) Math section: 15) The test itself was decently tough...honestly as crazy as it may sound my heart was pounding looking at those questions. The easy ones were very easy but the tough ones were tough and confusing. You have to calm yourself up, even if wastes 20-30 seconds of your time. Quant had always been my stronger point but the DS questions were not easy ones or maybe because I was getting them right I kept getting tough ones. Verbal section: 16) Started off with sentence correction and first RC was Q5. Here again I felt the questions were not easy ones. My approach towards verbal was to always focus 25 mins in the first 10 questions. Not a good approach but knowing that verbal was my weakness, I felt it was important to get the first 10 as correct as possible. I was really short of time on the last 10 problems with only 8 minutes on the clock. I got a RC on the in the last problems. I skimmed through the RC and honestly felt good about the answers. I think this is an internal thing, once really pressed on time, your brain responses much better. Anyhow, I finished my verbal on time :) Toughness level on Verbal: All OG level My take: I wish I had learned to time myself better on verbal section. I always had this problem that I always had less than 10 minutes for the last 10 problems. Final score was satisfactory. Like, I said looking at my other test scores, I never imagined I would ever get a 740. But GMAT prep scoring is different, so even with errors, you would get a better score. Just keep working on those weaknesses and never get disheartened by a test score. It is a reiterative process and keep your calm during the test.
  7. Hi GMATfundoo, are you sure that when p=10 is divided by m=3, the remainder is 7?
  8. The integers m and p are such that 21? (1)The greatest common factor of m and p is 2. (2) The least common multiple of m and p is 30.
  9. E, clear, succint at least covers strong or stronger than cleanly
  10. 1) INSUFF. because we do not know how many pads the store sold during last month. So we do not know the exact number of pads in stock. Even though we know the total money spent my store to procure those pads, we do not know how many were left in the store. 2) INSUFF Therefore E, tough one, I can imagine during the test missing the point that question is asking the money spent on the pads left in the store. I might have ticked A for this one.
  11. Guys, I got these two problems during my first GMAT prep practise test. The first one has official answer as ©. I was shocked to see a problem being incorrect on GMAT. Can a guru please provide insights on the first problem. I like the explanation for the house problem (A) is the correct answer.
  12. Problem 1 Is m+z >0? 1) m-3z>0 2) 4z-m Problem 2 Last month 15 homes were sold in Town X. The arithmetic mean sale price of the homes is $150,000 and the median price was $130,000. Which of the following statements must be true? I. At least one of the homes was sold for more than $165,000 II. At least one of the homes was sold for more than $130,000 and less than $150,000 III. At least oe of the homes was sold for less than $130,000. Answer choices I only II only III only I and II I and III
