  3. The article in Brenton Newspaper discourages the use on new system of cooling and argues in support of old system. The reason cited in favour of arguments are that in uptown , the new system is used and study revealed that the algae tend to accumulate in pipe network and that the removal of algae can be done by scrubbing the pipe which is costly or by using herbicide ,but water containing herbicide cannot be released into river again and that the low water level can harm river ecosystem accustomed to higher levels It has been said in article that algae get accumulated and that the removal of algae by scrubbing is costly ..But here inorder to prove this argument to be valid the author of the article should have substantiated his stand by giving relative comparison of cost of removal in both old and new system.. Nothing has been said in article about the cost of removal of the algae old system. Also the amount and how frequently the algae get accumulated in old and new system .Perhaps the algae accumulation in old system is more frequent than in new system and even though the cost per treatment is more in new system the overll cost of removal may be high in old system.Hence the author of the article should have substantiated his citation by providing relative cost of removal of algae in both system in a year Further it has been said that the herbicide may be used in cleaning of algae but then the water cannot be recycled into the river and that low water in river can cause unbalance in ecosystem of river..But the amount of water needed for the cooling in new system is not given.perhaps the water needed for is very less and hence doesn’t have any significanct effect on water level on river.. Hence in sum I would like to say that in order to make the article more convincing the author should have provided more information on it ,like how frequently the algae accumulation takes place in both old and new system .. And what is the overall cost of algae removal in new and old system and also what is total amount of water needed for cooling in new and old system to prove the superiority of old over new system
  4. 110. ------------------------------ [bold]The following appeared in a memo from the Principal of Sherwood Junior High School. "It appears that the lighting in Sherwood High's classrooms, which have large windows but minimal overhead light sources, is impairing student academic performance and teacher morale. Records show that during December and January, the two months with the fewest hours of daylight, attendance rates fall, average daily class participation drops, and grades decline. Teacher resignations are also highest during these months. According to a study of Tundra Vocational School, which experiences entire seasons with little daylight, students' grade point averages increased when Day Glow light bulbs, which mimic sunlight, were installed in classrooms. This study suggests that Sherwood can improve students' academic performance and teachers' morale by using Day Glow light bulbs in winter."[/bold] pls rate my essay The principal in his memo suggest using Day Glow light in winter in order to improve students’ academic performance and teachers’ morale . The principal cites certain evidences in support of his suggestion which seems to be dubious.. The first evidence suggested by the principal is that the record shows that during December and January , the month with fewest hours of daylight ,the attendence rates fall ,average daily class participation drops , and gradeds decline .perhaps such trend during these two month may not be due to the fewer sunlight and may be attributed to the several other reasons. It may be that since these two months are winter season month , it in very much possible that the childrens are getting cold and fever because of climatic condition and because of which the attendence rate is falling and hence lowering grades. .Also There may be many other factors like any big festivel ,due which the students are showing less attention towards studies and may be enjoying their festivel season and the absenteeism is due to the fact that they are going to the other places to meet their nears and dears ..Hence before citing less sunlight to be responsible for the absenteeism and lowering of grades the principal should have taken all the factors that may be responsible of such trend .. Further is has been mentioned in memo that the teachers resignation is also very high during these month ,and such trend is due to less sunlight in classroom. But here again the principal fails to convince me that the less sunlight is actually responsible for teachers resignation..There may be several other reasons like low salary in this schoold and better incentives in other school may be the reason for teachers resignation and not the fewer sunlight..Also the location of school , the treatment of teachers in school all that factors should have been taken into account .Also the principal should have given sufficient statistical data by taking census among teachers which rightly corroborate the fact that teachers are resigning mainly because of fewer sunlight and not because of lower incentives or bad working environment.. Also the principal gives an example of tundra vocational school as an example of school where the grades point of student has increased by use of Day Glow light bulbs which mimic sunlight .. But here this reason seems unconvincing for me .No evidence has been cited to prove that this Glow Light bulb are the sole reason for better preformance of student. There may be several other factors like uniformity in climatic condition and better health condition of student attending the vocational school .Also it may be that the courses provided in tundra vocational school are easy and student don’t need to put lot efforts to get good grades .. Hence inorder to substantiates the matter regarding use of Day glow light the principal of Sherwood should have provided more cogent and convincing evidences like providing statically reliable result of census which shows that it is the fewer sunlight in classroom that is responsible for the students absenteeism and lower grades and that the fewer sunlight in classroom is responsible for the resigantion of teachers ..
  5. In the next mayoral election, residents of Clearview should vote for Ann Green, who is a member of the Good Earth Coalition, rather than for Frank Braun, a member of the Clearview town council, because the current members are not protecting our environment. For example, during the past year the number of factories in Clearview has doubled, air pollution levels have increased, and the local hospital has treated 25 percent more patients with respiratory illnesses. If we elect Ann Green, the environmental problems in Clear view will certainly be solved." In the letter to editor ,it has been asked to vote for Ann Green , a member of good earth coalition rather than Frank Braun , a member of clear view town council in next mayoral election. And the reason given in favor of such inclination is that the current member not protecting environment of clear view. But the author of letter fails to substantiate his assertion. Firstly the reason for increase in factories is not cited .Perhaps the construction of factories in the clear view area has been sanctioned and has been started by his predecessor and he is not atall responsible for the growth of factories in that area..So to make the argument more cogent and convincing the author of letter should have given enough evidences to prove that Frank was the sole reason for such gmultiplication of factories in clear view . Futher it has been mentioned that 25 percent more patients with respiratory illness were treated.Th argument seems to be statistically deficient .what was the total number of patient in previous year ? Nothing has been specified .So the author should have mentioned details regarding the number of patient in previous year with respiratory disease. So the author should have provided enough evidences to prove that the industy pollution was responsible of respiratory disease and not anyother factor and that the factory construction reponsibiltiy lies entirely on the Frank furthermore ,no valid reason is given in favor of Ann green .No previous record of her work has been cited here. Author before speaking in favor of Ann Green should have substantiated her standing by showing her contribution in matter concerning environment pollution and how successfully she handle all this issue . Also the reason cited for the Ann Greens being best candidate is that Frank Braun , the present member of council is not taking any interest in protecting the environment .. It definitely doesn’t prove to be qualifying point for Ann Green .Since Frank Braun is not efficient doesn’t mean that Ann Greens is efficient .She may prove even worse. One fruit is not good in taste doesn’t mean that the other one would be tasty. Hence in order to prove Ann Greens candidacy the author should have provided the relative comparison of the previous records of both them.. Even if we assume that Anns Green is better than Frank Braun ,it doesn’t mean that she is the best candidate ..May be she is better than frank Braun but in order to prove her to be best ,her record should be best among all the candidate .so in order to corroborate the Ann Greens position the author in letter should have proved her to be the best among all the candidate by providing the data in comparison to the rest of the candidate.. Hence in conclusion , the author of the letter should have provided enough relative data in comparison to the all candidate and not only against Frank which shows that she is the best candidate in all respect and also enough information like frank was the actual person behind the construction of factory and that is the main cause of pollution and hence deteriorating the peoples health to disqualify Frank as an apt candidate for town council..
  6. The owner of thumb gardening center in his memo shows interest in expanding the variety of vegetable seed being stocked in coming spring inorder to increase profit .The owner has cited some evidences in support which seems to be dubious. Firstly it has been said that the national survey conducted last month shows the customers being dissatisfied with the quality of fresh vegetables available in supermarket. It is not necessary that the nation wide survey will hold true for the green thumb garndening centre area .It may be that the portion of people shown to be statisfied are from green thumb area .so the owner should be specific in giving such evidences. He should have provided area specific survey result that is the survey result of green thumb area and not the nation wide statistic. If we suppose that the survey shows the significant trend of green thumb area then also dissatisfaction of customer doesn't mean that the they will stop buying vegetables from supermarket and will start gardening. It is very much possible that the dissatifaction is very slight and they don't mind buying their vegetables from supermarket as the gardening needa lots of effort and time .So the owner to have made this evidence more convincing by giving the data which shows that the customers of supermarket had stopped buying vegetables and they are doing gardening to grow there vegetables .. Further owner provide evidence of increase in selling of gardening book at book stand of green thumb gardening centre. But nothing has been mentioned about the type of gardening book being sold ,whether it is fruit gardening ,vegetable gardening or flower gardening book.Even though the book bought by customer are vegetable gardening book ,it may be possible that they are buying just out curiosity to see the book and not for gardening.. Futher selling of seeds in greens thumb centre is not only the factor of dissatifaction of customers from supermarket or selling of gardening book ,but it depends upon many other factors like the nearby competitor and present demand of vegetable seeds in green thumb gardening centre .Also whether they are able to meet the present demand or not. And if the seed available are more than enough against the demand put ,then further investment in expanding the stock will seems wasting of business money. Hence the owner should provide more cogent and convincing information like statistical data of demand of seeds in greens thumb area and whether the available stock will be able to meet the present demand or not and the quality of seed available in thumb greens store .Whether any other gardening store are there neraby or not and if yes then he should provide relative comparison of seed available at both the store because if the quality of seed is not good then it won't be able to stand the competition from rival gardening centre
  7. The chief executive of a video game company in his memo speaks in favour of buying the rights to produce a video game based on soon to be published children's book "squirrel power" , by peter wood .But the evidence given in support of his inclination to buy rights of video seems to have several fallacies . First of all ,the book is yet to be published .There is no guarantee that the book will be popular. It is very much possible that the book may have story line which may not attract the childrens.Or even though if the book is published and become popular it is not necessary that the video will also become popular as childrens may prefer to read the book and not to watch .buying rights with high price before book being published seems like risk taking business.therefore the cheif executive should wait till the book is published and see the response of people and try to conduct survey to find whether the people are interested in video game related to that book. The second reason cited here is that the previous book of robert woods were very popular and the video game based on first book was very popular.Nothin has been said about the video game made on the story line of last two books .whether they have been made or not and if made whether they were popular or not also if not made then why..so many question seems to unaswered in second reason.so the chief executive needs to do more through study about the previous record of roberts wood before making any conclusion. Also the reason cited in favour of buying right is that ,since story involves popular character it will save time thereby reducing cost. But there is no mention of the cost of buying the popular character. It may happen that since the characters are popular the cost of buying may be very high ..And may put economic constrain on company. further it has been said that buying right for video game may put economic constrains on the company .Hence taking such risk may jeopardize companies position which is definiltely not a wise decision.. Hence before speaking in favour of buying right for video game on soon to be published childrens book the chief executive should make evidences more convincing .He should provide evidences like the cost of popular characters and how the company will cope up with economic constrains eventhough the video is not popular ..
  8. The vice president of Alta manufacturing in his memo concludes that by reducing each of the work hour shift by one hour the number of on job accident can be reduced and hence increase in productivity. This conclusion is drawn based on the nearby panoply industries .But such comparison seems dubious. firstly ,nothing has been mentioned about the type of work being carried out in panoply industries and alta manufacturing .. In order to draw conclusion based on some other industry , first and foremost thing is the type of work being carried out in both the industries. It may be that panoply industries is small scale industries involved in making handicraft or some less machins related work and the alta dena is doing work in field of heavy machineries ,hence the work environment of alta manufacturing is more accident prone that panoply. So vice president of company before drawing the conclusion with respect to panoply industries should have mentioned about the type of work in which both the industries are engaged . Secondly ,it is stated in memo that experts believe that the a significant on - the - job accident is mainly due to fatigue and sleep deprivation. But no statistical evidence is cited to corroborate such conclusion. If we assume that the accident is due to fatigue and sleep deprivation but again the question lies -whether the fatigue and sleep deprivation is due to working hour or it is due to the fact the work are getting enegaged in some part time job during there free hour.It may be possible that the wrokers are keeping themselves engaged during there free hour by partime jobs and that must be reason for fatigue and sleep deprivation and not the working hour of industry.. Even if we assume that the panoply industries does same type of work as alta manufaturing and that the working hour of atla is responsible for fatigue and sleep deprivation which in turn is resulting in accident but then will decrease in working hour would reduce the accident? There is no concrete evidence cited to validate that the work will take rest during there off time. The memo should state the measures that would be taken to make sure that the workers of atla maunfacturing take rest during their off time. further ,it has been said that the reduction in working hour will reduce the work related accident and hence increase in productivity ,but for me this statement doesn't make any sense .As the relation between the decrease in work hour and producivity has not been justified in memo.No fact has been stated to prove that the less on-work accident will increase the productivity.. hence in my opinion the VP of alta manufacturing needs to make his memo substantial by providing information about the fact that how panoply work environment can be related to alta work environment , also whether sleep and fatigue are the main reason for accident and that is mainly due to working hours ,again he should have provided evidence to prove that workers will take rest during there off time and also how the profit here in alta is a function of less working hour and more rest for workers

  10. The memo from the mayor of the town of west egg asserts that the landfill which is used for garbage disposal would have completely filled within five years but due to increase in recycling of aluminium and paper , increase in garbage pickup charge and since the ninety percentage of repondent of recent survey showed strong commitment towards recycling , the available space should last for considerably longer than predicted .But the reasons cited for such conclusion seems specious The first reason cited for such assertion is increase in recycling of aluminium and paper .It is said that the recycling of aluminum and paper will be twice as they did in previous years. But this evidence will have any significance if and only if the aluminium and paper are major portion of garbage. It may be that the garbage contains some other waste product like plastic in major amonut .Hence to make this evidence to be more convincing for the memo ,the mayor should have provided the data about the quantity of paper and aluminium in garbage and whether there in any further increase in the amount of aluminium and paper in garbage .And if there is any increase then how the increase in garbage can be managed because it is very much possible that the even though the amount of recycling is doubled the increase in garbage quantity would be more and hence doubling of recycling material would have no siginificant effect as this doubling may be used for the recycling of increase waste.. Further it is stated in memo that the charges for garbage pickup will double which in turn will increase recycling of material but how??? no relation has been cited to prove that the increase in garbage pickup price will increase the recycling of material. Furthermore it has been stated that the ninety percentage of respondent to recent survey has showed a great interest in recycling .But the total number of respondent it not given .It may be that the survey repondent are just a small part of people using west egg landfill and there reponse may be highly deviant from rest of the people. So the mayor should have given the exact statistics about the people being surveyed .The survey result has significance in making conclusion only in represent that majority.otherwise such type of survey where just small number of people who not at all represents the community may deviate the conclusion from truth. If we assume that the survey result are true but where the survey has been carried out?no area details has been given .whether is national survey or the survey of community who is using west egg field for grabage disposal Also ,the garbage disposal in not only dependent on the amount of aluminum or paper being recycled but other factors like the increase in population which plays a significant role .Also whether in future any other community is also going to use westfill or its just the town peopl who are going to use west egg landfill Hence for mayor to make his memo more convincing for his people he sould corroborate his memo with more cogent and convincing facts like the how much is the alminium and paper waste in garbage and how increase in garbare pickup rate has relation with the increase in recycling ,also that the survey is reliable by providing adequate statistic about the survey. Also additional information like population trend and whether any other community would use the west egg's landfill for garbage disposal or not
  11. society is a combination of both adults and childrens .Childrens are future .so in order to built a better future we must make our children socially aware but at the same time the nurturer that is adults should not be ignored. If the garderner don't know how to take care flowers then the flower won't bloom properly. So in my opinion government should devout their social programs and services equally to childrens and to adults. Programs related to pregnancies and child birth will help adult to have more awareness. This type of program will help mother to understand the precaution needed to be carried out during pregnancy and child birth and hence to give birth to a healthy child and therefore both adult and child are benefited Further health care facilities are needed not only to childrens but also to adult.society is composed of both adult and childrens and the deterioration in health of one will affect the other .consider an example of a family ..Let suppose that the government is devoted to health of children and if suppose the adults are not given any such facilties .Do you think that the healthy child will make the entire family healthy .no definilty not .inoder for family as whole to be healthy both adults and children should stay healthy then only we will call that family to be healthy family. The same thing applies to society just by making childerns of society healthy doesn't makes the society healthy. Therefore for society to be called as healthy society , we must devout health programs equally to both childrens and adults ... Further ,social program related to entertainment is not only neede for childrens but for adults also..After a whole week of taxing work .social programme related to entertainment provides them a change .unlike adults childrens get their share of recreational activites in their school through games class ,music class but for adult no such facilites are given to them. Therefore to make society people mentally and emotionally sound ,govt must devout enough program to entertain not only kids but also adults .Infact more should be devouted to adults then to kid as during the working hour kids gets some recreational acitivites but adults do not.. Also social programs like gallantry award , best citizen award given to adults will give insipiration to childrens to become like the one who got the award ..The child may make these good people as their ideal and hence will try to become like him.Hence this type of social programs not only inspires adult but also childrens Hence all in all i'll conclude , a society will thrive only in both childrens and adults are happy and healthy and to enables this government should not only give more attention to childrens but also to adult and hence should devout his social program and services to both the section..
  12. The following appeared in a memorandum written by the vice president of Nature's Way, a chain of stores selling health food and other health-related products. "Previous experience has shown that our stores are most profitable in areas where residents are highly concerned with leading healthy lives. We should therefore build our next new store in Plainsville, which has many such residents. Plainsville merchants report that sales of running shoes and exercise clothing are at all-time highs. The local health club, which nearly closed five years ago due to lack of business, has more members than ever, and the weight training and aerobics classes are always full. We can even anticipate a new generation of customers: Plainsville's schoolchildren are required to participate in a 'fitness for life' program, which emphasizes the benefits of regular exercise at an early age." The vice president in his memorandum asserts that opening a new store of health related products would be profitable. The assertion is based on certain reasons which a logically flawed.. firstly ,it is assumed that increase in sale of sports items like sports shoes and dresses indicate that people are getting more concious about their health. But there in no relation between increase in sale of sports item and health food.It is very much possible that sports dresses are in fashion and hence people are buying it . The second reason given for such anticipation is the increase in number of customer for health club.Increase in business of just one health club is definitly not the indication of the fact that more and more people are concerned about their health .It may be that this health club has bought new advance excercise equipment and good trainers because of which there in increase in the number of people attending their classes.. furthermore, the anticipation for new generation customers is based on fact that they are required to attend "fitness for life" program..It is very much possible that eventhough student will attend the program but they may not be very much conscious about their health .It is likely that they may attend it just out of compulsion .. hence to corroborate the assertion the VP of the company should provide more cogent reason like how much percentage of total population of that area is interested in health related food product .Also the VP should mention about the existing competitor in that area and their reputation compared to those of competitor.further he should give lucid reason for increase in customer for sports shoes and dresses .Also he should have mentioned the number of young generation people who are health concious and wether they are attending out of their interest or compulsion..
