  1. 1. Find what is 1*. By using equation p* = (p/2) / (4p-1) replace p with 1. 1* = (1/2) / ( (4*1) - 1) Yes! you get 1* = 1/6. 2. Ok we know q = 1* from the question Then q = 1/6 3. Find q*. Then you will get the answer. Which is -1/4. replace p* = (p/2) / (4p-1) with q you will get q* = (q/2) / (4q-1) replace q = 1/6. Then (1/6)* = (1/6 / 2) / (4*(1/6) - 1) (1/6)* = -1/4
  2. Pick the first sock with no requirement. so we don't have to care about Prob. However the second sock we have to pick with the same color as the first one. So there is only 1 sock that has similar color with the 1st sock from 9 socks. Ans is 1/9
  3. 12. In every month, a hospital is opened only in last week. If 10 people travel through bus to hospital, what is the probability that atleast two people travel on the same day? 10 people in 7 days (Mon - Sun) The reverse way to ask this question is "How can you make all people go to hospital in different days? No right? So the answer is 1 ------------------------------------ Mon--Tue--Wed--Thu--Fri--Sat--Sun Mr1...Mr2...Mr3...Mr4...Mr5...Mr6...Mr7 Mr. 1 to 7 already choose the days that they want to go to the hospital. So how can you make Mr8,Mr9,Mr10 to go to hosipital with different days from Mr1-Mr7 Of course, it is impossible.
  4. It is imposible because the number inside sqrt() should be possitive or zero. However if the number is negative, it will be something called "Imaginary number" (not Real number and not in gre exam) And Imaginary number is not negative number. the result of the sqrt() will be >= 0 How about? sqrt(x^2) = |x| |x| = x when x > 0 OR = 0 when x = 0 OR = -x when x No for example |-3| = -(-3) = 3 (positive number) :D Good luck for yr test .
  5. 2sqrt(xy) can be positive or zero since x and y are not zero Then 2sqrt(xy) is only positive number (x and y are real numbers)
  6. I think High school statistics is enough
  7. list1 should be 0 ..... 16 (so the range of this list is 16) list2 should be 0 .......10 (so the range of this list is 10)
  8. I used my high school math and my Computer Math books.
  9. 2. Compare to 5 * 5 = 25 4 * 6 = 24 3 * 7 = 21 Get an idea?
  10. 2n+1 - 2n = 1000? You can do this way only the question is like this; 2^2n+1 * 2^2n = 2^1000, not this; 2^2n+1- 2^2n = 2^1000. 2^2n (2-1) = 2^1000 2^2n = 2^1000 2n = 1000 n = 500
  11. ...\.....|............./ ---\-----------/------------------------- ......\2.|..3....../ ........\|......./ .........|\ .../ .1......|5.\/..............7 .........|./..\ ......../|......\ ....../..|...6...\ ..../.4..|..........\ -/------------------------------------- /........|.............\
  12. 2. If x Col a: x Col b: 0 x^2 - xy = 0 x(x-y) = 0 so we get x = 0 OR x - y = 0 , x = y but this one is impossible because x finally we get only x = 0 and x Then the answer is C
  13. Yep, I think so. Both can have same SD. for example; all student weights = their means. Then SD = 0

    Geometry

I think Geometry questions in GRE are very tricky especially when they mix with Quantitive comparison.
