  1. That's an interesting idea, developing countries... not sure my wife would go for it, though. If anyone else has any suggestions I'd really appreciate it.
  2. I'm not so certain, I've always done better in macro but it seems like macro is in a bit of a bad period... i dunno, any other opinions?
  3. So I decided to choose Micro (rather than macro or econometrics) as my focus as far as core courses go, we have to take one of the 3 in greater detail than the other 2. I'm trying to choose electives and "Topics in International Finance" seems interesting to me, but its very much a macro course, obviously. So my questions is, in your opinions does it makes sense to do this in an MA while still exploring what I really wanna focus on, or would be smarter to pick an elective that's more related to micro since that's what I'm focusing as far as core courses.
  4. So if I understand correctly a phd program consists of about 2 years of course work and then x years of dissertation writing. I wanted to ask the experienced people here if it would be possible, in your mind to leave the city you are studying in after the course work and write your dissertation elsewhere and come back on occasion to meet with your advisors and what not. Or is it really necessary to be in town. thanks.
  5. Full scholarship only covers school fees right? I don't see how one could work enough while doing courses to support 2 people.
  6. So even if I am lucky enough to get us visas since she cant work i couldnt go anyway cause phd funding barely covers one person right?
  7. Hi all, I'm doing my MA this year and am wondering if its realistic to even apply to US phd programs for next year. From what I see funding is pretty common but I wonder how hard it is to get the right paperwork in order to live in the US, especially since I am married ans my wife would need to move too. Any advice or experience shared would be appreciated.
  8. hey, i don't think i quite understand the difference between MA and Phd courses at U of T, from what I can see they all seem to be both, safe for the core courses. Does anyone know if theres any other way to distinguish courses between MA and Phd?
  9. what about a wacom tablet? you can record while writing your notes and then take down the equations on the tablet.
  10. So Financial Economics is a branch of micro, right? I know of some programs that bunch Financial Economics courses with monetary of macro courses... My question is, if I wanna focus on Financial Economics which of the following: micro, macro, or econometrics stream, is my best path? Thank you.
  11. hi all, if anyone has an opinion on this please chime in. I need to take 7 courses to complete my MA next year, which means I have to choose which semester will have 4 courses fall, or spring. Do you think its better to take 4 in fall because i have all summer to prepare and I'll be more worn out by the spring semester, or do you think it makes more sense to take 3 in fall to give me a chance to get used to grad school? not a terribly important question but if you have thoughts i'd love to hear them. thanks.
  12. hey are you guys starting a tm/urch study group already?
