  1. I would suggest on taking CMU's offer now. Get the education done and over with and head on to brighter opporunities. Other variables would be your visa status..whether or not you can stay longer in the u.S without going to school..fin aid..etc...BUT most important is the nature/realm of your work..you say you're in investment banking..e.g..if you're with cooperhouse/J.P Morgan..it would be advisable to continue present employment..if its a mediocre position..then go on to elevate your marketability with CMU/Darden..good luck..where did u go for undergrad/gmat/gpa?
  2. Well, being in a similar field (economics), I have heard more of darden then the business program at CMU. But I would strongly suggest going with the latest rankings as they are are the most accepted and viable source of prestige. Other personal factors could be your aid package.. since both schools are pretty much ranking shoulder to shoulder, you should base your decision on aid and opportunity cost..good luck!..will you share your educational profile and work history with us>
  3. TOEFL: 283 GRE: Q760, v570, a 4.5 apart from the "obvious"..suggestions on gpa?? publications?? research??
  4. Here are a few safe bet schools..i applied and I got in with full aid, but I am going for UM-Columbia because my program (econ) is better there University of Southern Illinois Marquette University Central Michigan University of Cicinnati
  5. Hi all, I got into University of Missouri-Columbia for M.A. Econ with full aid. THe financial side of the offer has made me decide to join it. How are the job prospects for M.A. Econ?? Also, for Ph.D admission in a top program, what should I do in my M.A. Please advise...the advice that I have received from this group has been extremely helpful! Thanks everyone!
  6. Hi Sushmita, Fantastic job..dunno much about your field, but overall, USC has the best rankings in my view. Will u please share your profile with us?
  7. Hi charlieboy, congratulaations!! best wishes for a successful graduate study and a remarkable future. will you let us in on your stats?
  8. I have decided to go to Mizzou for M.A. Econ with a Teaching Assistanship. It has a PhD program though..will I be able to get into its PhD program quite easily? ALso, if you know about the program in general please comment...any comments welcome!!
  9. Vipul, don't lose heart..there are still some application deadlines for some schools, liek SIUE and central michigan..wat you can do is..go to these schools for a year and then do excellent so as to transfer to the school of your choice. I am sure you will get a TA/RA at SIUE and central michigan..all the best!
  10. Thanks for your response vikram, Will a stipend of 10000 be enough, for room and board, after taxes I will probably only have around 8 grand..may I know the package you received at WPI? Thanks so much.
  11. Accepted: Umaine, Ucincinnati, UMissouri-Columbia, Marquette for M.A. Economics with full aid. WHICH SHOULD I SELECT. Only UMissouri has a ph.d, the rest are terminal M.A. programs. If anybody knows about any one of these schools, good or bad things...please please inform..any comments about choosing the right MA program..highly appreciated.. Truman
  12. Thank you Vikram and Thaiva, I appreciate your advice....markiv which school have you decided to pick?....
  13. Hi Everyone, I am in @ UMissouri-Columbia M.A. Econ with 10,000 stipend. Same offer from UMaine and Ucincinnati. I wasn't confident about applying to any top tier school but now I am sort of regretting. Can you please suggest which of these I should choose? Out of these three only UMissouri has the Ph.D program. PLease please help!
  14. For undergrad studies I would rank them as follows: The first three: Duke, JHU, Chicago, and then wash u..but since Duke ad JHU are on the east coast, it gives them the edge over the rest. But all four are highly renowned..and prestigious. good luck!
