  1. Hey guys, what do you call a Mexican with a rubber toe ? ROBERTO !!!!!! :D
  2. Thank you Bhatt, These were good ways to improve the reading speed. I recommend that you read from encyclopedia programs, such as Encarta and Britannica. These contain excellent articles and much scientific stuff. Also, you'll read articles on the monitor. Good luck on your GMAT:) TAM
  3. Hi sandy77 It seems that we have a common problem, " the weak verbal performance". I took the GMAT 6 days ago and scored a 600 " Q47, V27 " Business schools of middle class don't require a high GMAT score, so you still have a chance of an admission. Personally, I'll retake after the MSc degree. Good luck on your apps.:) TAM ______________________________________ Taking a vacation :drunk:
  4. Thank you Ursula for your most encouraging words. I am pretty happy that you agreed with me that spending a year in the UK will improve my language skills. I wish you the best of luck on your application. :) I actually met the GMAT score requirement for the MSc program, but definitely I need a higher score in the future. Where are the other guys!!, I need more advice/opinions/comments !! TAM
  5. Well done, Fabuluos scores! :D I wish you the best of luck. TAM
  6. Hi Folks, I wrote my GMAT test on 2 days ago. and I scored a 600 (70 percentile) " My first attempt.", I admit that I was shocked with the low verbal score. If it were somewhat higher, I could be able to reach a 90 percentile total score. I did the 1st PP test before the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip] and scored a 510, then I bought the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip] and read all of it, but unfortunately, I wasn't able to re read it becaused I scheduled my test early in order not to miss the deadlines of the applications. Apparently, there is a huge difference between the verbal score and the maths score. The verbal bruised my total score big time! [b)] The AWA's were the usual stuff. The math section was approx. 10% harder than the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip]. [ I know, it is wrong to compare the the math section with the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip] ];) Some questions were very tricky, I wonder how many hours does it take an ETS testwriter to write a single questions. That's the reason why The [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip] is the best book available " it contains only real questions." Don't over prepare for the Probabilities/ Permutations / Combinations the material tested is very basic. I read some really, REALLY hard questions in the math forum. No need to overcomplicate the matter. I am not a native speaker of English, probably I had a bad day because I got an exteremely tough 120 lines RC passage which ate my time it was about fiminism. When I finished this RC passage, another one popped up immediately after it [75 lines]. The impact of these 2 RC(s) caused me to lose track of time so I had to guess on several question...In other words, I Panicked and rushed the test...! Perhaps it was my bad luck,[b)] I have identified my primary problem : I read too slowly, this is due to the fact that English is not my native language and the undergraduate degree which I earned " BA Economics" taught very simple English Language books. I got a sufficient score for the "MSc in finance" program which I applied for in the UK, but surely, I need a +700 score to get an admission to an excellent PhD programme after the MSc degree. I am sure that the period which I will spend in the UK will greatly enhance my English proficiency level.(If I get an admission hopefully) In the mean time, I am taking a short vacation:drunk:!! it's been 2 months of hard work.. Thank you Erin for running such a wonderful and productive forum.:), maybe in the near future I will be able to post another topic but with a +700 score hopefully... Also, thank you Ursula.... you're a math genius, you should be proud of yourself[^]... Please, feel free to advise me, especially those people who got a +700 score.:) Have a nice day and good luck to you all... TAM
  7. Hey Winee, I went through the same problem once "whether to use the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip] or not". I recommend that you use the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip]. Although it comprised of 1473 official questions and the book is about 800 pages, you will be able to finish it in 3 weeks if you study around 4 hours daily. Read throughout the forum and you will find that most of the 700+ scorers used the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip]. almost all the PP stuff is included in the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip] . Do your best Regards, Tam
  8. Thank you "gmatfordays" for your valuable advice. I've already ordered the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip]. I think it is my best bet to get the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip] because almost 99% of people who get the highest scores prepared by using the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip] as the main preparation resource. Also, I think that the guy who recieved a 740 by preparing with the Peterson's book is either extremely lucky or genious. Alas that both criteria do not apply to me !!! one of my colleagues prepared by using "peteson's" + "Kaplan" and he never thought about using the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip], but the poor fellow took a shameful 490. Thanks again for your reply. By the way, have you taken the GMAT yet ? Tam
  9. Thanks for your valuable advice ,but the question was if I really need to buy the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip]. Does the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip] really worth it. Hey everyone, feel free to give me your helpful ideas. Thank you
  10. Hello everyone! Hi Erin, I really appreciate a fast reply of the following: I aim at a score between 630-700 I've been preparing for the GMAT for more than 2 months by using the following books: 1- Peterson's-Thomson "GMAT-CAT success". 2- Princeton Review "Cracking the GMAT". 3- Barron's GMAT "12th Edition". 4- The Kaplan's CD. After I read some members posts in the forum, I realized that almost 100% of the members who got a 650+ score on the GMAT used "The Official Guide 10th Edition". And that these members recommend the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip] for preparation. I haven't heard of the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip] until most recently and I don't have it. I schuduled my test date to take place on the 6th of Feb. I took the 1st PP test and got a horrible score of 510 "q40 v 22". I even lost my confidence more when I read the contributions of the forum's members that doing the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip] is a MUST. DO THEY REALLY MEAN TO ? I mean if I do the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip], do you think that my scores will be raised up over the 600s. I even don't know what the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip] looks like! I realize that I need to improve my verbal scores substantilly.BUT HOW ? Do you advise me to reschudule the test and give myself a chance to read the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip] ? note: English is not my native language. TOEFL score: 257, TWE 5.0 I will be very grateful if you provide me with your valuable advice, and I really appreciate a fast reply, because I am running out of time. Thank you for running this fabulous forum. Have a nice day!
