  1. Why go through 4 or more years of research to end up working for a private firm doing work probably not even related to your research field? Man that is tough!
  2. Congratulations to anyone who actually understand Macroeconomics and is able to have intellectual discussion about it. I can only understand Microeconomics.
  3. 1) MIT 2) Harvard 3) Northwestern 4) Princeton 5) Chicago 6) Berkeley 7) Stanford 8) Upenn 9) Yale 10) Minnesota If you were to shuffle then, how would you rank them? My ranking is not based on strength on a particular field.
  4. Ok, This is not a rant, but rather an observation! What is up with Mr Paul Krugman? This guy always see things in a negative way. Has he always been this way, or is winning the Nobel prize got anything to do with it? Maybe Mr Krugman ought to relax a bit, and it is not like he is being listened to, maybe once Professor Larry Summers leave then Mr Krugman can have his show.
  5. where do PhD students get funds to attend seminars offered in other countries or other states?

I have an undiagnosed disease, and its called TMAGIC-ADDICTION-SYNDROME (TAS).....I just realized how much time i used to spend on this site.
  7. Jeeves, congratulations on your admission! MIT has a very good tradition in Economics. In between, when they initially rejected you, did they send you an official rejection letter by mail or was it just an informal rejection?
  8. ask her to fix the damn economy! It is probably way over her head....
  9. congrats to you guys! My favorite PhD program, and great city as well.
  10. check out the south park episode on the recent economic turmoil South Park Episode Player - Margaritaville It does a good job explaining the state of macroeconomics lol. Whatever hot topic comes up next, all I hope is that it is not confusing.
  11. Ok, I have a bias because I hate Macroeconomics with a passion, maybe I am too stupid cause I just can't seem to understand ma-cro-eco-nomics. I think Microeconomics has the most potentials.
  12. Oh boy, that is bad news !!!! I wouldn't be surprised if Penn State uses their Qualifiers to get rid of some people because 24 so far that is quite large compared to 17 last year.
  13. DSpace@MIT : Economics - Ph.D. / Sc.D.
  14. Well it appears that it has happened before; I thought it was just weird. But what i found so weird was that I actually received an official rejection letter before finally receive another letter but this one was an official admission letter about a month letter.
  15. Ok guys, About a month ago, I was rejected by my safety school, a PhD program ranked in the 150th range. I received the rejection letter from the graduate school (Thanks God I subsequently got into my Top choices). In the meantime, it appeared that one of my LOR writer contacted the director of the PhD program about my application (That was after I was rejected, apparently my recommender was not aware)....So now I received another letter from the graduate school offering admission with funding. I won't be attending this school, but how common is it for Econ PhD programs to reconsider applicants after they have already received an initial rejection letter? I would assume the Graduate School will be quite pissed off about that
