  1. Hi, I registered GRE for August 31th (in the US) and now I have to delay the test due to various kinds of reasons. The website says "You must reschedule or cancel your test no later than three full days before your appointment (not including the day of your test or the day of your request) or your test fee will be forfeited." But I am not sure it means three business days or just three days. Thank you very much! (i.e., I want to wait for tomorrow to find a better date for testing. Thank you!
  2. Haha, this just what I am looking for. Thank you very much!!!
  3. Hi test magic folks, Once, there was a post introduced me to an amazing site. It has many charts and tables that summerize applicants' profiles and results. For example, I remember it has a GRE--GPA chart for people who get into Harvard. If you also know this site, please share it with us again. Thank you very much! PS: It seems all the information about applicants also come from TM.
  4. As far as I know, you do not need to be a grad student at MIT for its math camp. I mean you can change your f-1 later~
  5. I used to look up the faculty list of UIUC, and I cannot recall there were lots of labor people over there.
  6. It is very interesting to know. I may start to sketch my plan after this smester...
  7. Thank you. May I ask what you were doing during that time?
  8. I thought someone once told me that graduate schools do not like to see me just stay at home for one year. It is better to stay in an academic environment. However, I don't think I can find such environment other than my school....
  9. Hi, I called BU and was told by the secretary... Well, I will probably go back to my own country for the summer and work there (maybe do some small business?) I have not thought about visa issue, but I will talk to my adviser about it. Also, I have a solid reason to take just 9 credits---I only need 2 more classes to get an econ major. Right now, I am only a econ minor. Thus I am not worried too much about that.
  10. Thank you very much for your advice walt. I think I will contact DGS in the way you suggested and see what is going to happen. I did not prepare for GRE verbal at all due to extremely limited time constraint. That is why I had a so low score on it. So you do not think I need to take more classes? Will I have a much better shot if I do? And considering LORs, do not I need to get new ones so that I can use them?
  11. Hi TM folks, while many of you have got many wonderful offers, I am experiencing an unpleasant result L Since I have not got any funded admission and it is very less likely that I will get one eventually, I am considering to stay at my university for another semester and re-apply in this fall. However, there will be many problems if I am going to do in this way. Thus I hope you guys can give me some advices on what should I do, and how much possible that I will get a better offer if I re-apply. Here is my general profile: Type of Undergrad: US Large Public University, Econ ranked around 50 on US News Undergrad GPA: 3.58/4.00 (2009 Fall), Type of Grad: N/A Grad GPA: N/A GRE: 800Q, 350V, 3.5AW Math Courses: These are what I had in my 2009 application: Cal 1~3 (A, A, C+), Diff Equation (A), Probability Theory (A), Math Reasoning (A), Real Analysis 1 (B), Linear Algebra 1~2 (A, A) Econ Courses: Intro Micro (B+, no A- at my school), Intro Macro (B), Intermediate Micro (A), Intermediate Macro (A), Econometrics (A), Game Theory (A), Advanced Econometrics (A), Honors Thesis 1 (A) Currently Enrolled: Honors Thesis 2 Other Courses: Currently in two computer classes teach SAS and MATLAB respectively. One sociology and education graduate independent study class (5.5 credits and with grade A). One undergrad language independent study class (A). Letters of Recommendation: I had 2 letters from well-known economist (I thought they should be good), and 1 letter from a professor I did a qualitative research with (in that 5.5 credits class)—(not economist) Research Experience: second author for a qualitative conference paper; 1 year of econ thesis Teaching Experience: Tutored and peer mentored for Calculus 1 and 2 Research Interests: Labor Economics, Economics and Education, Game Theory, Applied Micro SOP: standard RESULTS: Acceptances: OSU (waiting list for funding, very unlikely), Rutgers (waiting list for funding, very unlikely) Rejections: So many….MIT, Berkeley, Northwestern, U Penn, Columbia, NYU, Michigan, Cornell, Maryland, PSU, Iowa U… Pending: BU(says may give AD but certainly without funding), UIUC (will have result by next week, but I don’t see any chance to have funding) Other: My problem: Although I am only in the third year of my college, I will not have any more money to pay for an extra semester. I need 13K to pay for my fall tuition which I cannot possibly make in the summer. I am international student thus there is basically no loans for me as well. I also hate to tell my family that I am going to stay for another semester since I told them I was going to graduate in this May… I have been thinking that I could take only 9 credits in this coming fall and I will only have to earn 7k during the summer. But take more useful classes will definitely help more about my admission. Here is couple of my plan but I do not know how much they are going to change my admission. 1. If I work very hard this semester and the next semester, I can raise my GPA to 3.70/4.00 (I get 4.0 in my freshman year but that was at another university. All the bad grades happened in the first semester at my new school). 2. Re-take GRE to get higher verbal score 3. I am currently in the following math classes which I did not have them in last fall: Real Analysis 2, PDE, Math Stat, Linear Optimization. 4. Take two graduate econ classes in the fall (math econ and micro), and one econ undergrad class with a very well-known economist. Plan to get LORs from them. But this is a great risk as well. Ok, so thank you for reading all of these. How much better you think I will do next year? If I can only take 9 credits, is there any better classes I should take? (like topology?) Any other advices and thoughts, please….
  12. I bet they are not scanning for rejection letters. lol
  13. I was nominated in the first round. What does this mean?
  14. There is a flyout??? Where do you get the information about that? If they have given me information on funding, I might decide to go.
