It's because I hold a passion for research, and all things intellectual. It gives a special high once you accomplish a research project or have work published in a top notch journal. Aside from that, the life balance is good (this is the most important factor for me), I can have a deep sense of satisfaction at the end of the day because I ll be doing what I like very much and the money is good too (not many people recognize this in my humble opinion). I guess it is alright as long as I keep publishing in top tier journals. After all at the end of the day, I get to live my life-go trekking and get to write and publish that piece of sci-fi that I always wanted to!!, a life that I can control and press buttons all over! I can be a big fish in a small pond and I' ll be very happy with that, anything more would be an added bonus. :)
