  1. It's because I hold a passion for research, and all things intellectual. It gives a special high once you accomplish a research project or have work published in a top notch journal. Aside from that, the life balance is good (this is the most important factor for me), I can have a deep sense of satisfaction at the end of the day because I ll be doing what I like very much and the money is good too (not many people recognize this in my humble opinion). I guess it is alright as long as I keep publishing in top tier journals. After all at the end of the day, I get to live my life-go trekking and get to write and publish that piece of sci-fi that I always wanted to!!, a life that I can control and press buttons all over! I can be a big fish in a small pond and I' ll be very happy with that, anything more would be an added bonus. :)
  2. I guess it makes sense. I was only getting a little insecure in trying to achieve a good PhD from a good and reputed university.
  3. Thanks for the advice-Nosead and Rsaylors! I greatly appreciate that. It was particularly helpful indeed. I am working towards that end now. Also, can you please tell me if a 15/12 month Business Masters from universities in Europe or Asia-Pacific count towards eligibility to the PhD? I have just got an offer from Waikato Management School in New Zealand that is AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA accredited. It is one of the only 48 schools to have the 'triple' accreditation as they call it. Should I take it up?? Will this help me fetch me a PhD in some of the good schools in Canada or USA? Also what is your take on applying to schools in UK like the Warwick Business School to help me fetch a PhD in US/ Canada?? Thanks again! My GRE is on the Thursday-28th April. I hope to do good this time :)
  4. Yes they are. The system I studied in, unfortunately is that which tests rote and does not emphasize on any creative display of ideas. It is a deep passion I hold for academics. It has been a long cherished dream actually. I did read literature concerning research, the research processes etc.
  5. Hi, I am planning on applying to a PhD in OB/ Entrepreneurship in either USA or Canada. I have a 3 years Commerce Honors degree in my under grads and a 2 year Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management. Scored 61 % in Bachelors and I have a 3.4/ 5.0 CGPA in the PG Diploma. Coming to my work-experience: I have a total experience of close to 4 years as on date. I set up the Indian HR Operations of a British company, provided consultancy on Change Management to some A-List companies in India, helped small businesses achieve Credit Ratings. I also developed a framework of my own in the process. I am currently a Research Associate at a top 20 Indian Business School- took an almost 70% pay cut to just gain first hand research experience. I am also working on 4 research papers simultaneously which are OB/ Entrepreneurship related in the hope that it would bolster my profile. I am taking my GRE again in a week's time. I had a 1290 score previously (test taken roughly an year ago)- 720Q and 570V. I am 27 M and from India. Request you to please evaluate my profile. Request you to also tell me: 1. If I should apply to a Masters program or directly to the PhD? The PG Diploma I did is considered as equivalent to a full time Masters in India. 2. Should I also take a GMAT test to strengthen my application? Thank you very much!!
  6. Hey q1, thats a fantastic show indeed. I hope you convert your call from Wharton!! All the very best :). Just wanted to know if you've had a Master's too or if you've applied directly from an UG degree?
  7. Hey Egarvel and Indus and others on the forum too, what were your GRE scores like and about work experience?? Is any one of you an experienced candidate here? Plus, I also wanted to know if you have had publications in peer reviewed journals from your UG/ Masters days? Thanks a lot!
  8. Awesome to find a OB/Management PhD page!! I am a fellow aspirant as well.
  9. Most welcome Ashish! Btw, may I ask you how much you have scored on your GRE? It is an important indicator to me as I will be applying to a PhD program soon. My discipline is going to be Strategic Management/ Organizational Behavior though :)
  10. Hey Ashish. Thats a tremendous effort indeed. INSEAD is a very relevant school as you rightly put it. It is a globally recognized degree and also has the necessary certifications. In my opinion, you should take up the offer from INSEAD. Just for curiosity's sake, is the offer from the Fountainbleau campus or the one at Singapore?
  11. Thats a great score Spiritie!! Great spirit shown :) Btw, what kind of topics are used for the AWA section? Help in this regard would be greatly welcome!!
  12. How does one get to improve scores on the AWA??? How common is a 5.0 or 5.5 on this section?? Tips are welcome! :)
