  1. What kind of research are you interested in? Financial archival? If that's the case, I would say USC would be my top pick (but I don't know too much about Utah's program). Now if you're talking about audit research or behavorial research, I think Wisconsin or Indiana might be better fits.
  2. No worries, I was just curious. Did they send you an email indicating you were on the shortlist?
  3. For the accounting folks, I saw an acceptance to Illinois posted on TGC.
  4. I would agree that it's a very good thing. When you say UW, do you mean Wisconsin or Washington?
  5. taxphd- Thanks for the list. I'll definitely be making my way through it over the next few months. phdhope- I've definitely been looking through the more recent volumes of the main journals and picking papers to read that are within my research interests. I've also been on SSRN quite a bit to see papers in progress from profs whose research interests me. Thanks to you both for the input.
  6. Hey everyone. Before starting a program next fall, I was hoping to read through some of the base literature in the field so I'm somewhat familiar. I thought maybe those that are currently in a program (or those with more knowledge than me) could suggest essential papers. I'm primarily concerned with financial archival papers, but please list any and all. Thanks!
  7. deficiency- Thanks for the info. I'm accounting myself (did the username give it away? :)) and was actually admitted to a school a few weeks ago, so I wonder if we're considering the same school. I had prior contact with the department though so I understand this is highly unusual. I'm still waiting on the rest of my apps though. gusadolphus- Completely agree. No need to make the waiting worse than it already is.
  8. I'm glad a thread is started for this. I am personally dying to hear from schools. I'm just curious, what do you mean when you say 'a great deal of recruiting has occurred in this past week'? Do you mean schools have been contacting people?
  9. I think it definitely depends on the program, but you can look at schools that have admissions data for 2010 broken down by area. For example, last year, the percentage of marketing applications out of the total at a few schools was: Kellogg (16%), Emory (16%), Haas (13%). You can get a general idea, but again, it depends on if the school has a better reputation for marketing, etc.
  10. Sorry to bring this thread back again, but I'm planning on self-studying micro this spring/summer and will be using the Nicholson text. I noticed that the current edition is the 10th edition, but are there any drastic changes from the 8th/9th editions? Thanks in advance for the input.
  11. If I'm not mistaken, I believe NYU has a PhD prep track. I think it's structured differently for each person based on his/her background.
  12. I thought about doing an econ phd but the type of research I'm interested in is in the accounting field. Plus, I've had far more accounting classes, more work experience in accounting and a CPA (and enjoy it more- minus the CPA studying part).
