Most universities -- particularly the ones offering online applications -- give you the option to check your application status over the net. They usually email you your id and password soon after you have submitted your application. You can log on to your account and check your app status: what materials are recieved/ yet to recieve/ missing/ etc. After the graduate schools receive your *complete* application, thay take around four to six weeks to make a final decision. The decision letter is sent to you via regular mail (admission decisions aren't usually communicated through emails or phone). The whole process is lengthy, tedious, and often frustrating. Patience is KEY -- hopefully the sweet end will justify the year-long drudgery...

Hey vuhl, did you get into ut-austin? when did you get your acceptance letter? I got my rejection letter from austin a couple of days ago :(. got into ut-arlington though.. :). by the way, do you/anyone have any idea about the current ranking of ut-arlington's ee program?

That depends on your intended program, vuhl74. Engineering programs usually don't care too much about the awa score, where others might (like CS and Psychology). However, there are exceptions: Texas A&M Electrical Engineering (I've applied there) specifically recommends a minimum awa score of 4.5. I'm not sure if they'll reject my application for that half-a-point shortcoming, nevertheless it still poses a threat. I personally believe it was a stupid move by ets to add a human-evaluated section in a standardized test. Takes quite a few points off of it's 'objectivity'.

Not as low as mine! I got a 610 verbal, 800 quantitative, and a 4.0 (YUK!:yuck:) on the awa! A four out of six doesn't look too pathetic, but it's got a lousy 28% (YUK!:yuck:) associated with it [}:)]. Ah, well, that's life.. :(:( --Wahed

Nope! I've applied to georgia tech and there's still no response from them. Moreover, my online application status says that my application is incomplete although all application requirements are met and are checked with tick-marks! Positively weird!

1) I'm not sure how expensive Stanford is; you can find the relevant info at the Stanford website. Tuition fees of course depend on your chosen courses, scholarships, etc. Living expenses depend largely on your chosen lifestyle. As far as I know, Stanford is in the group of the "more expensive" schools. But hey, it's Stanford! 2) I'm not sure what you meant by the term "getting placed after MS". If you please clarify the term for me, may be I can help. 3)Most of the universities provide online application forms, and that's the best way to go. Fall 2005 forms should be available late this year -- may be around october/november. Apply as early as you can, especially if you're going for financial aid.

Since I am graduating in June 05 I will not have work exp unless I defer joining MS program . However I am trying to take up projects which will help. Further, can you please tell me Where I can get the latest Grad school ranking for EE.

With those credentials, you can comfortably apply to the top 50 schools -- with aid. Now, without aid, you can go for the top ten schools -- even Stanford or UC Berkley. But mind you though, they're _Expensive_ ! I'd recommend you to apply with aid to UT Austin, Georgia Tech, or UC Santa Barbara -- you've got good chances of getting financial aids there. And, since you're applying for Fall 2005 -- over a year away -- try to gather some work experience and/or publications in the meantime (those things can significantly bolster your application). Also, try to build some rapport with faculty members of your schools-of-choice -- through e-mails, regular mails, phone calls, flowers, gifts, or whatever.. :)
