  1. GREAT scores!! Congrats!! What was your undergrad major Sonya? ~w
  2. sorry for the redundant post; my explorer goofed up.. :)
  3. Most universities -- particularly the ones offering online applications -- give you the option to check your application status over the net. They usually email you your id and password soon after you have submitted your application. You can log on to your account and check your app status: what materials are recieved/ yet to recieve/ missing/ etc. After the graduate schools receive your *complete* application, thay take around four to six weeks to make a final decision. The decision letter is sent to you via regular mail (admission decisions aren't usually communicated through emails or phone). The whole process is lengthy, tedious, and often frustrating. Patience is KEY -- hopefully the sweet end will justify the year-long drudgery...

  5. Hey vuhl, did you get into ut-austin? when did you get your acceptance letter? I got my rejection letter from austin a couple of days ago :(. got into ut-arlington though.. :). by the way, do you/anyone have any idea about the current ranking of ut-arlington's ee program?
  6. Hey gupta v, which universities did you apply to and which ones did you get in? And what was your undergrad gpa? Just being curious.. :)
  7. That depends on your intended program, vuhl74. Engineering programs usually don't care too much about the awa score, where others might (like CS and Psychology). However, there are exceptions: Texas A&M Electrical Engineering (I've applied there) specifically recommends a minimum awa score of 4.5. I'm not sure if they'll reject my application for that half-a-point shortcoming, nevertheless it still poses a threat. I personally believe it was a stupid move by ets to add a human-evaluated section in a standardized test. Takes quite a few points off of it's 'objectivity'.
  8. Not as low as mine! I got a 610 verbal, 800 quantitative, and a 4.0 (YUK!:yuck:) on the awa! A four out of six doesn't look too pathetic, but it's got a lousy 28% (YUK!:yuck:) associated with it [}:)]. Ah, well, that's life.. :(:( --Wahed
  9. Nope! I've applied to georgia tech and there's still no response from them. Moreover, my online application status says that my application is incomplete although all application requirements are met and are checked with tick-marks! Positively weird!
  10. 1) I'm not sure how expensive Stanford is; you can find the relevant info at the Stanford website. Tuition fees of course depend on your chosen courses, scholarships, etc. Living expenses depend largely on your chosen lifestyle. As far as I know, Stanford is in the group of the "more expensive" schools. But hey, it's Stanford! 2) I'm not sure what you meant by the term "getting placed after MS". If you please clarify the term for me, may be I can help. 3)Most of the universities provide online application forms, and that's the best way to go. Fall 2005 forms should be available late this year -- may be around october/november. Apply as early as you can, especially if you're going for financial aid.
  11. You can find the EE rankings over here: http://members.internettrash.com/gre/elecs.html Thnx for your encouraging reply. Since I am graduating in June 05 I will not have work exp unless I defer joining MS program . However I am trying to take up projects which will help. Further, can you please tell me Where I can get the latest Grad school ranking for EE.
  12. If you wrote this in 45 mins and didn't cheat, I'm giving it a 6.5. Thank you.
  13. With those credentials, you can comfortably apply to the top 50 schools -- with aid. Now, without aid, you can go for the top ten schools -- even Stanford or UC Berkley. But mind you though, they're _Expensive_ ! I'd recommend you to apply with aid to UT Austin, Georgia Tech, or UC Santa Barbara -- you've got good chances of getting financial aids there. And, since you're applying for Fall 2005 -- over a year away -- try to gather some work experience and/or publications in the meantime (those things can significantly bolster your application). Also, try to build some rapport with faculty members of your schools-of-choice -- through e-mails, regular mails, phone calls, flowers, gifts, or whatever.. :)
  14. Are you joking? Those are superb scores! (unless you're applying to Stanford..)
  15. Hey, this question is for the people who took the GRE more than once: Was the registration number of your second test the same as that of the first? Or were the registration numbers different? --wahed
  16. Hello, The online GRE diagnostic service provided by ETS requires the test takers to log on with their date of birth and the registration no. (which usually arrives with the official score report). I took the GRE just five days ago and it may be over a month before I get my report. How can I get my GRE registration no. RIGHT NOW so I can review my test? Cheers! --wahed
  17. Thanks man. Yes, I have already submitted my fall applications -- the deadlines were over long ago! I wasn't getting any favorable responses from the universities (I guess I aimed a bit too high :shy: ) and thought about giving another shot at the GRE. Well, I have managed to amend my paltry Q score and now let's just hope my new scores reach the universities in time. Wish me luck!
  18. Hello skremon, I'm from Dhaka too (Nayapaltan). I completed my BS in Applied Physics and Electronics from Dhaka University and am currently in the middle of my MS. And hey! I was in Notre Dame College too! (the infamous group seven)
  19. Yes, I sent my earlier scores to six schools. Two of them have already rejected my application (they didn't mention the reason/s on the letter, but I reckon it was my low Q score). I've sent my new scores to the four schools who are still considering my admission (for fall, 04). I haven't got confirmation from any of the schools yet, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. --wahed
  20. Hello folks, I took the GRE on the 19th and got 1410: V610; Q800. It was my second attempt; I first took the GRE last november and got 1300: V590; Q710; A4.5. I am obviously content with my new quantitative score but disappointed at the marginal gain in the verbal section. But what I'm really concerned with is my performance in the writing section -- I goofed up! :(. Now if I get a really bad score in the AWA, will it hurt my application? I'm applying to eletrical engineering in some of the top 50 us universities. My TOEFL score is 287 with a 6.0 in the essay. Will the admission committee be forgiving enough to ignore my pathetic AWA score? And another thing, it takes over five weeks for the official score report to fly all the way to Bangladesh. Is there any way to know my official scores (including the AWA score) before that? Thank you everyone. You're a great bunch of people! :)
  21. Hey buddy, I see you're from Bangladesh. Me too! Are you from Dhaka? Which University did you go to? Sorry about your low verbal score, but don't worry too much about it. Since you are a CS major, the universities probably will only notice your Q score (and it's pretty good!). Try to do well on your upcoming TOEFL -- a good score on that may balance the verbal shortcomings. Besides, you can always retake the GRE, if you're too upset with your current scores. Good luck! :)
  22. "This isn't weird at all when you consider the way the test is designed. Assuming you took the computer test, the better you did, the harder the questions and the more it would seem that you missed. If you log into the ets site with the info from your registration card, I'll bet you missed an early verbal that shot your overall score down ." Hello Gibson, Where in the ets site do I log on to check which questions I got right/wrong on the GRE? Thanx, wahed.
