  1. I will go for "A" too. Can you please check the OA again(I assume OA is "B" from SPOILER).B can't be the answer as there is no anti-consideration that the argument includes.
  2. I too chose option C but by POE.I am not too convinced with the option C too but given the options that seems to be the best. That is how this test is.....Choosing the most correct answer out of the given options.
  3. Sumeet: 1. I agree with you that the answer should be "E".I will not go for "D" since the para says that the organization has succeeded. It doesn't say expanded(expanded can mean anything like geographical expansion (opening many new branches) or the org. may expand in no. of employees ... ).So the meaning of expansion is not clear. 2.I will go for "D" since that is the statement without which the conclusion still stands and that's what the question is asking.Rite ? 3.I will also like to go for B.Any explanations on this are wlecome ....
  4. Here's my chain of thought: Premise depreciating dollar will make it cheaper for paper manufacturers in Japan and Western Europe to buy American wood pulp from America than from any other source. Conclusion:Exports of wood pulp will rise considerably due to dollar's decline which makes pulp cheaper. I went with denial test to choose the correct option. A) Factory output of paper products in Japan and Western Europe will not increase sharply during this year. If the factory o/p in these countries doesn't increase sharply ,the conclusion that US exports will increase is reinforced(as there will be still enough demand for US pulp). So this option is out. B)The quality of the wood pulp produced in the United States would not be adequate for the purposes of Japanese and Western European paper manufacturers Quality is not the issue on which the conclusion is based. It is based on price.Hence this is out of scope. C) Paper manufacturers in Japan and Western Europe would not prefer to use wood pulp produced in the United States if cost were not a factor. If cost of pulp is not a factor then paper manufacturers in these countries will not buy pulp from US.If they don't buy from US --->no increase in exports--->conclusion falls. In other words countries buy pulp from US only because dollar's decline has made pulp import cheaper from US. Hence this is a necessary assumption. D)Demand for paper products made in Japan and Western Europe will increase sharply during this year. If demand increases sharply ,irrespective of dollar's decline, exports will increase --->this reinforces the conclusion that exports will increase-->conclusion is in tact.Hence this option is out too. E) Production of wood pulp by United States companies will increase sharply during this year. If the production of pulp increases in US,then irrespective of whether the price of dollar falls or not,the price of pulp will come down because of excess supply--->Exports will still increase --->Conclusion is intact.Hence this option is out too.
  5. Got it .Thanks for your prompt response GMAT168.Any explanation to refute "E"?Thanks in advance.
  6. I am torn between A and C.But am tilting towards "A".What is the OA ?
  7. I will like to see reasoning to refute "E".Explanations plz... GMAtT68 and et al:I agree that first part of "C" is correct. However ,where is the conflicting evidence? Please explain.
  8. Alba: I don’t intend to vote for Senator Frank in the next election. She is not a strong supporter of the war against crime. Tam: But Senator Frank sponsored the latest anticrime law passed by the Senate. Alba: If Senator Frank sponsored it, it can’t be a very strong anticrime law. Which of the following identifies the most serious logical flaw in Alba’s reasoning? (A) The facts she presents do not support her conclusion that Senator Frank is soft on crime. (B) She assumes without proof that crime is the most important issue in the upcoming election. © She argues in a circle, using an unsupported assertion to dismiss conflicting evidence. (D) She attacks Senator Frank on personal grounds rather than on he merit as a political leader. (E) In deciding not to vote for Senator Frank, she fails to consider issues other than crime.
  9. Are you still reading the other newspaper in town? Did you know that the Daily Bugle is owned by an out-of-town business syndicate that couldn’t care less about the people of Gotham City? Read the Daily Clarion, the only real voice of the people of Gotham City! Which of the following most directly refutes the argument raised in the advertisement above? (A) Over half of the advertising revenues of the Daily Clarion come from firms whose headquarters are located outside of Gotham City. (B) The Daily Clarion usually devotes more of its pages to out-of-town news than does the Daily Bugle. © Nearly 40 percent of the readers of the Daily Clarion reside outside the limits of Gotham City. (D) The editor-in-chief and all the other members of the editorial staff of the Daily Bugle have lived and worked in Gotham City for ten years or more. (E) The Daily Bugle has been published in Gotham City for a longer time than has the Daily Clarion I chose the answer as "B" but it is D.Any explanations?
  10. Isn't in choice A the idiom "due ... to" awkardly used?
  11. GMAT168: I think that the contradiction is: The use of foul language is banned in the name of democracy. However,if there is freedom of speech in truest sense of the word democracy then use of foul language should be allowed. Is my understanding correct? Also how can someone defend ban on use of foul language in name of democracy ?
  12. When we take a first step towards testing, we try to establish basic things. The most basic thing that this test will establish is that the monarch butterflies are sensitive to electricity.Hence "B". C is also a strong candidate for selection. But I think where "C" loses out is where it says "can affect butterflies positively or adversely ".The low voltage transmitter is not affecting butterflies. It is merely sensitizing them to low voltage electricity. Any more clarifications/comments are welcome.
