  1. OK..Final post ( I guess) I have offer from Kellogg now. 690 (although not nicely balanced) is sufficient if your application is in good shape. Thanks once again Erin and groupies.
  2. Just to let y'all know that I have been accepted into UC GSB for fall quarter. Still awaiting answer from Kellog. Thanks forum.
  3. " I am of Indian descent, so I think that's one of the aspects that will hurt my application ? " Whaat ? Where is it published ?
  4. Baja, Why dont you look for executive programs also, since you have 10+ years experience ? Anurag
  5. I'd just read [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip] 2 times, all questions, like ursula said not passively but actively. I did feel after Quant that I have screwed up but after Verbal I felt I may be go over 700 otherwise I'd have cancelled the score. Verbal practice was OK and Kaplan is very different than actual thing. If you take RCs for example,OG has few types of RCs. Only those and similar come in GMAT. Like science passages would ask you the same question. If you read science RC (after going thru OG) You can figure out what is going to be asked. That way you can pay attention to a particular line you are reading in detail (some people call it active reading) . SC - sc.com is very good source. I read thru a grammer web page some one has posted here. CR - very important to follow [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip]. I have a feeling that the very difficult questions in Quant are delebrately experimental & induced to see your mantal balance.
  6. Venkat, My kind of score,my kind of GMAT ,my kind of schools, my kind of fears, and my kind of city !! Where are you buddy ? I am taking my chances and applying as is with 690 (given that I dont blow up AWA totally like Anurag.
  7. Sorry Metal (for addressing you as a girl) I am not into metal and no idea who Julia is..:) but she is beautiful. I was trying out my luck :) And I dont think I'll ever go for GMAT again.Summer is here and too precious to waste (in Chicago), and I am no perfectionist.I guess I am running for part time mba and 690 should be no reason to reject my application. Guys, your invaluable advice is always appreciated, so if you think northwestern or UC will reject someone with 8 years of experience with 690 GMAT, let me know. I'll re-think. I got pretty bad essay topic though. So if I get less than 3 on that then I'll have no other choice.Else its goodbye GMAT for me. I got health hazards essay and could not think of health hazards other than poisonous gases, drugs and fertilizers.Argument was good and I guess I nailed it so lets see. PS. I did not write even one essay for practice, another thing to avoid.
  8. 1/2+1/4+1/8+........+1/2^n = ?
  9. Thanks buddy. Like I said, I got first 6 questions as SC and I think I must have err'd in 2 or so, hence could not make up for it later. SC was different than what I had prepared mostly, or maybe I was thinking about Quant. SC I did'nt see SV agreement, parallelism at all. Mostly were idioms like to pay off....... or for paying off... Quant was not tough for me, just lengthy....so pace yourself accordingly especially for word problems. Good luck
  10. One more thing to add : I did not find more than 2 choices where A was correct for SC - maybe those other 3 are the ones that cost me the 700 mark :) but maybe not. It s not true that 1/5 Sc are already correct.
  11. Bazooka, I'd not say that. You can not generalize from my experience what you should focus on. I'll tell you the worst though. Ursula, to be honest I am disappointed. I never thought of a 33 in verbal ! I always got 40+ in all the 9 practice exams (4 kaplan, 3 princeton, 2 PP) in kaplan sometimes I did 99% verbal correct (not to brag) and although I prepared for about 3 weeks, last 2 weeks I studies real hard (like 6 hours a day), guess thats not good enough...I just hope I get into good school. Anyways I thought of quitting after Quant because I felt I did very badly. I am generally good at math but I got word DS problems about 50% (or more) and each took a lot of time to read, let alone solve. So prepare for the worst Bazooka. I got so many algebra and puzzle questions. lots of arithemetic which required logic. Of all the practice tests it seemed to me that I was given a whole subsection of one type of questions. I'd say there were 70% questions that took 2-3 minutes. about 5% which took 5 minutes and rest were under 1 min. No tough-tough question really, but just plain calculations. And only 1 work rate problem I had scored 690 and 700 in kaplan and 710 and 720 in PP w/o looking at [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip]. So please do not take my word as to prepare for something and not prepare for something. I'd suggest do lots of word problems in less time. My test was at 4 PM and at 9AM I took a PP practice (maybe a mistake)..but thats how I am, unorganized, unlike Ursula. Good luck.
  12. Erin, when you said "just finished" I guess you did not mean "just just" Well I am back from taking the GMAT just 10 minutes back and before I forget this great site (how selfish can I be !!) let me put my thoughts here. First of all I got 690 . Which is much below my expectation (I think of myself in 99 percentile - yeah right !) not because I was expecting more but because I was expecting more in verbal. Quant 49 Verbal 33 690 (92 percentile) There is something I want to say to everyone who is planning to take GMAT. Forget Kaplan/Princeton scores. I scored 590,690,700,and 730 in Kaplan Princeton - 650,670,720,730 PP 710,720 (Without OG) I read [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip] only for one week (Because a nice lady Metal_rulz on wikigrammar.com told me to forget GMAT without OG) I wish I had [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip] before and I am sure you all do. I was just stupid ! Anyways, I got no geometry, no probability, no nothing, more than (or atleast) half DS and all word problems. No mixture problems. heck I can not even remember what was it but after Quant I thought of quitting since math was really bad. I still thought to give it a try. Verbal was toooough for me. I had 4 passages 3 x 50 lines 1x 90 (history, philosohy science and history) Sentence correction which Ihad been waiting for and preparing for - my performance suked I think. Mostly ideoms. I could not find the error in most, still thought there are errors. CR was OK except for a couple. I guess 690 is not that bad, although I had scored > 700 more than 5 times in other tests. Good luck to all and thanks to Erin ! If you are ever in chicago (like someone else offered) and want to drop by, drinks will be on me !! Ursula I have to admit that you sound very organized. Maybe I should learn something from you. Cheers.

  14. how do you guys arrive at 1/2^7 ???
  15. whats the probability that a point lies on a triangle but not on circle , if the circle and triangle have centres at (0,0) and the the triangle scribes the circle.
  16. My situation was like all yours, maybe worse. I tried something and it improved, although it may take different time according to individual dedication, and familiarity with English language. Here is what I did: I read a passage no matter how long it took and jotted down the following things as I read: 1. Opening idea : What is the author trying to say or talk about 2. Key words 3. each supporting or refuting experiment/fact (just a name not the whole experiment ) 4. idea from the last paragraph - summary if any. Now instead of going to Questions, based on keywords and other noted things, I tried to ask my self what questions can be asked from the passage. What assumptions and inferences can be drawn and what is missing as evidence from the passage. What can weaken/strenthen the authors ideas. This took me long long time initially but after a while, ... I was right on the target, slowly you dont need to right and all this come naturally to you. When I say 'a while' I mean about 25 passages after you start. Let me know if someone has more questions. This is not for the expert readers and I had no intentions of becoming famous. :)
  17. vreddy, do you know of any good reference on this type of problems. Thanks,
  18. In a class of 30 students, 17 students study Chinese, and r students study Japanese. Every student studies either Chinese, Japanese, or both. How many students study both Chinese and Japanese? (1) r = 14 (2) Thirteen students take only Japanese.
  19. Thanks vreddy and ursula. Yes, A is the answer
  20. is 'd' > 1 1. d > 4-d 2. 1/d > -1 Answer later. I want to know can we write 1. as 2d > 4 or not ?:shy:
  21. So did I think, but they say 'A' reason written: 2 tells only that c=0, it does not tell what A and B are. I guess they got it wrong unless someone can give better explanation
  22. AB4AC is a 5 digit number divisible by 45 A,B,C are all distinct digits.what is the number ? 1) A+C=3 2) A*C=0 and B*A=24. My guess was B. Answer later . Good question I think.
  23. Q1 1) x^2 - y^2 = (x+5)(y-5) (x+y)(x-y) = (x+5)(y-5) try substituting 5 for y gives x = +5 or - 5. insufficient 2) is sufficient
  24. oh yes, u r right.I see now. I am not very good at modular math. Thanks.
