  1. nope, they tried to keep me interested but I think the chance is slim. For NU, I would wait till the last minute I know a couple people who will reject their $ soon. I hate when they judge people from their outside options...
  2. Does wantchi = want chicago? Pretty sure I met you at NU flyout haha. Anyway, in my case, god favored wharton lol.
  3. I flipped a coin. That helped.
  4. yeah, agreed. structural + wharton does give one a good opportunity to produce good work, but it's always a little risky to count on anyone outside your department, not to mention the historical tension between Penn and Wharton.
  5. man are you being sarcastic? Penn is pretty awful for IO, can't think of anyone but Xun Tang and Hanming Fang (marginally). However, there is that pretty decent IO group over Wharton, although you need to be a bit proactive about it if you go on this route. I think this applies to NYU and Stern as well, although I'm less familiar with NYU. Just in terms of empirical IO, Wisconsin is the best among your choices, so it'll come down to how sure you are about your interests. If I have to rank, given your interests, I'd go with NYU, Wisconsin, Penn, UMN.
  6. Agree with a12 if it's UCLA or UCSD.
  7. Agreed, except I'd be fine if they share the award.
  8. I like how everyone is upvoting everyone in this thread...awwww so much love. But in all seriousness...can I has some upvotes too prease? :D jk. Good post, Peot! Didn't quite get the chance to meet you during flyouts, but I did meet a bunch of TMers and made some REAL friends. In wrapping up my short campaign for more upvotes, I wish good luck to everyone in the next five (hopefully) years! - SP
  9. Transfer if you can, of course, from a pure PhD admission point of view.
  10. In my personal interests (I'm WL'ed at Stern), I'd want you to go to Wharton for sure. That being said, just another case for Stern: it's closer to whatever you said you wanted to work for.
  11. I definitely agree with the posts above as I am sitting on 2 or 3 offers and waiting for my WLs. At the same time, I can definitely sympathize OP's feeling since I personally find it very annoying too. In fact, I'm wondering whether people would wait till the last day or two to accept your other offers if you don't hear back from the waitlists? tm_guru said it may take a couple days for the acceptance process to go through, which kinda worries me. I'm thinking whether I should just accept an offer early next week.
  12. how last minute is last minute? I mean I probably won't wait till the last minute to accept my other offer
  13. Quick question: How would y'all compare these three departments, both in terms of their Econ programs and Finance programs (PhD)? I'm in at Wharton applied economics and WL'ed at Booth and Stern, but I was told that I'm on top of the list, all for Econ programs. But I'm also interested in finance in general and thus wondering how are they compared in terms of finance? I was mainly active in the Econ forum but then I realized I'm actually probably going to a b-school after all... Thanks in advance, SP
  14. I believe someone was admitted off the waitlist already. I think I saw a post here.
  15. Well, I guess he just replied. I hope his email is indeed due to your email instead of this thread...it's just a little terrifying to think that way lol
  16. As far as I know, Duke is a target school for all bulge bracket banks and a lot of boutiques. So I bet you can't feel much difference at Duke than, say, NYU. I'm not saying Duke actually has an edge on NYU on this front, but I just wanted to point out that location isn't everything even if you are trying to land a job on Wall Street. In fact, if you go on the Street, Duke probably has a similar presence than NYU, if not more, especially at DB (I don't know why). Yeah JK, you are far more active on GTER than on here hahaha. No, I haven't decided yet since I'm having most of my flyouts this week and I'm on the WL for quite a few schools. Even if I get off all of them, I don't necessarily know my preference, guess I'm not rational enough...
  17. I know very little about master programs and the real world, but I heard Duke's econ department is pretty darn good at financial economics / financial econometrics and thus able to place quite a few people into finance.
  18. ^this guy knows everything.
  19. Has anyone else not heard back from them? There were a bunch of rejections a while ago and nothing happened since then. No response to email or phone calls either. Almost feels like they are avoiding me...so, anyone else in the same boat? I guess I should jump in and join the "help me decide between my offers" game soon if I don't hear back from Stern next week.
