Hello All, Read my Argument it should really help you get the idea how to go about it. Also comment if required, try to be specific on my error should be helpful...

The following appeared in a letter from a department chairperson to the president of Pierce University.
"Some studies conducted by Bronston College, which is also located in a small town, reveal that both male and female professors are happier living in small towns when their spouses are also employed in the same geographic area. Therefore, in the interest of attracting the most gifted teachers and researchers to our faculty and improving the morale of our entire staff, we at Pierce University should offer employment to the spouse of each new faculty member we hire. Although we cannot expect all offers to be accepted or to be viewed as an ideal job offer, the money invested in this effort will clearly be well spent because, if their spouses have a chance of employment, new professors will be more likely to accept our offers."

The Author makes an analogy with the Bronston College and advocates for similar changes in Pierce college in expectation of similar results. However in his quest to putting his idea across the table he makes some hasty assumptions and concludes that the advice will work as
expected by him.
To start with he makes an analogy with the Bronston college, however he fails to compare the state of affairs of both the colleges. Bronston may be a top of the rung college, which pays heftily to its professors, and many other factors might keep the professors happy.
Moreover the spouces are not necessarily employed in the same college as far as Brinston is concerned, so this analogy is not good enough. Furthermore how prudent it is to burden the college with an additional liability of providing a job to the spouce as well. It further creates a uncomfortable situation for the management, where the management has to make a lot of mix and match to fit in spouce of the professor in a genuine designation without making her sit idle. Every enterprise basic ethic is to be equal opportunity employer, however in this scenerio the suggestion of the author fails.
He goes further in saying that the new joiners will boost the morale of the current staff. But is the staff curently lacking morale or is lowly staffed, that is never hinted in the argument about the current staff. Since here we are not accomodating the current Staffs spouces, so they would still be not greatly happy if new staff members spouces' get job in the college.
Finally he makes an unwarranted assumption that only by providing the spouce a job, the other person might get satisfied and accept the offer. But he is premature in declaring that he has hit the bulls eye. There are a whole lot more factors that play an important role for anyone to accept a job offer like the various benefits, main one being the renumaration and the work life balance to name a few.
To sum it up the author should have done more study on the Bronston college professors and by taking into account the similarities in both the situations. And should have suggested to more practically feasable benefits that could be provided to the new professor, Commiting to
which should not be an issue for the college.
