  5. Sorry, It has never been heard before. Forgive my ignorance . What is the content ?
  6. A good job. I like your words style, it is powerful and concise and aculeate . design of the diameter of a pipe, -- A good example. Sherlock Holmes -- I like him too. I read whole corpus , what a pity it is not in english. I think the author always hide some important clues deliberately until Holmes disclosed it at the ending of story. But stories are very very absorbing and every ending is unexpected , I reading and reading exception the dinner and sleep. The most thing impressed me is his extraordinary observation. :)
  7. I agree with pami , and some my points. making the existing complex technology simple to use is only a part of all. During Many other processes ( such as producing ), the simplization is important. Such as a large jet are made up of millions of accessories , the jet itself is very complex but basical accessories are very easy , they are bolts , nuts, gears, wheels, springs, etc. The designer try to get a engine with this issential accessories, then the engine and other parts are put together to compose the whole plane. And think about the calculous . THe space of irregular arch can be calculated by adding millions of space of rectangle. So we only need to simplify the arch as a series of variable rectangles , then to integral them for the extremum. Therefore, to disassemble a complex problem to many easy problems is a good way to resolve it.
  8. The speaker contends that young people should be encouraged to pursue long-term, realistic goals, as opposed to seeking immediate fame and recognition. I strongly agree with the speaker and i firmly believe that the youth of today are very enamoured by fame, and hence need a constant encouragement to pursue the morefruitful long-term goals. Firstly, consider the usual college youth. Most of the students want to become actors/actresses, pilots, astronauts and so forth. Clearly, the students identify fame and recognition with these professions. However, a students profession should be decided based on their analytical skills, aptitude, knowledge and areas of interest. Councillers should help the youth find the best path. Clearly, the earlier such goals are identified the better it is for the youth, for they act as a constant reminder of what has to be achieved to reach the goal. Secondly, a lot of the youth of today are turning into dilettantes. One finds a lot of examples of such people in universities. They work in many areas and acquire a lot of knowledge. Nevertheless, they do not become masters at any area. Such a growth is harmful to both the student and the society. ( I wondered why could you get this conclusion ? If they did not break the low they are not harmful to society . YOur words are exaggerated . In fact I am a such person too but I don't think I am harmful.)The society identifies key people by their function. Having multifarious work areas makes the youth seem lackadaisical. One of the harmful factors affecting encouragement of long-term goals is parental pressure. Parents expect a lot from children, and even more so when such a goal is identified. Councilling parents is as important as councilling students. Although long-term realistic goals are good, some areas such a acting, politics would require seeking immediate fame and recognition. These areas stand on support of fans. An actor can make his long-term goal to become famous. On the basis of his good acting skills such a goal should bear fruit. Finally, i would like to say nothing can be achieved without hard work and diligence. Putting hard-work and diligence in achieving ones goals is much better than seeking ephemeral fame. The body paragraphe 's typical structure is the pith sentence followed by logical illustration and cogent example. As above sonali's essay is a good templet. And your beginning show your stance but there is no close structure to support it or to strengthen it , we need you to analys the topic from different angle and persuade us that your opinion is reasonable . All the impression is loose and weak.
  9. Thanks for your trust. :) The advise advice given to Ida McAllister to help her in her quest to becoming a mayor, is that she should announce closure of parks in Lake City to automobile traffic. (reconstruct it , change the heavy head ) Considering the environmentally sensitive nature of Lake Cities residents, this action would help Ida gain popularity??.you mean reputation ? Although the advice seems good superficially, it is flawed( Sorry I donot know what is your mean, maybe Although is not right .). The advise seems to assume many things without providing concrete proofs. Firstly, the advise suggests that(to limit ) automobile traffic in the parks, (the comma is not necessary )would help decreasing pollution levels and also improving the quality of life in the city. To support this claim the advisee (you sure this word ? It means the student conducted by a professor. the author or the writer or the arguer ) gives the example of Plainsville mayor, Alecia Yu who issued the same prohibitions in Plainsville's parks. However, Alecia's actions may have been to reduce the higher pollution levels in Plainsville. No evidence is shown to prove that pollution levels of Lake City are alarming and would need some immediate actions. If the pollution levels are not very high Ida's actions may be detrimental and the residents may assume it was initiated to gain popularity. Secondly, assuming the pollutions levels of the town are increasing and action needs to be taken, closing parks for automobile, need not be a popular decision among the residents.(reconstruct it ) The advisee states Mayor Yu closed parks on the recommendation of a small group of citizens. Ida may lose popularity with the larger masses if she undertakes the barring of automobiles. It is also worthwhile to consider whether Mayor Yu's popularity rose or fell after her actions. Such evidence would be mandatory before taking a decision. Finaly,The advisee falsely assumes that popularity of Ida will increase because residents particpate in recycling and thus are environmentally sensitive. Such an assumption is baseless as no direct connection can be drawn between recycling and support of closure of parks for automobiles.(No one said they have relation. the crude topic said Mayor Yu prohibited automobile traffic in all Plainsville parks, and therefore was credited with solving the pollution problem and improving the quality of life in Plainsville. So I think the point is the automobile traffic in parks and air-pollution) It is entirely possible that recycling is a mandatory in Lake City, and residents dont always do it personally, to help reduce pollution. Again from this point of view, Ida's chances of being mayor may be severly hampered. In sum, i would say the arugment lacks evidences. I would recommend collecting demographic data of park visitors, asking them about their views on barring automobiles. Such data can statistically indicate the views of the larger populace of the city, and help Ida in her quest. ( the last paragraph should summarize all your reasons but a new one.) GO THROUTH MY COMMENTS.AND THOSE WORDS ARE GIVEN BY ONE OF FRIEND TO ME WHICH HELPED ME A LOT, I THINK THEY ARE VALUABLE TO YOU TOO. I checked one of ur issue essay , i wud like to make a few suggestions: 1. U seriously need a lot of improvement and hard work. 2. I wud like to give u some ideas a.Write only those essays which have 4-5 samples in the forum i.e., Older essays . First read all those sample postings and then make ur own essay. b.Do not keep on posting essays at such a pace. c. Work on the suggestions ppl make, after reading their views and suggestion rework ur essay. That wud help u gr8ly Hope i have not offended u.
  10. There are many factors influencing students' choice concerning enrollment. And finding a job after graduation is just one of the factors. The dean of the college thinks that by promising students about the job finding future after graduation would increase the enrollment ratio. But the students may have other considerations before choose a college. Don't you think these two paragraphs should be amalgamated ? A traditional beginning is safe and easy. Firstly they might be very keen on the prospect of finding job after graduation, but they may be more concerned about which kind of jobs they can find and what's the starting salary. A simple promise of finding jobs after graduation can not satisfy students' need. Foley college should try to provide more information concerning the job finding to attract prospective students. Moreover better job finding rate (what is that ? employment rate ?) after graduation doesn't mean that Foley college will win the competition against bigger and prestigious schools, because there are much more factors deciding a prestigious school such as faculty reputation. Well, in fact you against the author with two different reasons: 1 the quality of promised job after graduation is uncertain and doubtable 2 against bigger and prestigious schools is unconvincing but you put them together which make both unclear and less depth. Secondly students may consider the quality of the education is more important than the job finding rate. This argument mentioned nothing about the education quality in Foley college. A good education is some kind of guarantee to good job after graduation. They might want to know what they will learn during the college period, they might look long term about the career development instead of just looking at whether they can find a job after graduation. Then what they learned during college is very important for the student's long term career development. Furthermore, students and their parents might will also consider other factors such as the location of the university, living expense, tuition fee, climate of the area where the college is located etc. All these are not mentioned either in this argument. A bit hasty and short ! In sum, Foster College need to provide more information and do more other than simply promise job finding after graduation in order to attract more prospective students and compete against prestigious school. There are many good examples above( including mine, you can recomment it too), you can veiw them and learn some avaliable point. Imitation is necessary sometime. And don't depress ! In fact , stress is not a bad thing it is often supposed to be.
  11. Well, it sounds reasonable. thanks your reminding.
  12. Of course the score of 700! Show your best to them and no need else low score. Good luck ! :-)
  13. Maybe b. sensitive tools can feel the slight things. bold person can make decisions. and is the word incincere in A right? I assume it is insincere.
  14. It is a good one totally, you got points. Go through my comments I hope them are helpful.
  15. Thank you for your discussion, risha and dmitts. And sorry, I notice your reply until now because of my exam. I hope it will not be too late. ---- Right, 'a hormone known to affect some brain functions' , maybe those functions have nothing with the temper, so the hormone can not lead to the shyness. he has also stated that these children show shyness in the later stage of their lives, there is no solid proof for this statement. he hasnt shown any data or study to show that melatonin causes shyness. ----Well, I have a different point at here. He NEVER stated those children show more shyness .more than half of these children¡ªnow teenagers¡ªwho had shown signs of distress identified themselves as shy. The reconstructed sentence is More than half of these children identified themselves as shy, which had shown signs of distress and now are teenagers. So the flaw is the they think themselves are shy, but there is no exact and authorized psycho exam to prove them are real shy children. im didn't quite get the argument itself... when the guy says" They discovered that these infants were more likely than other infants to have been conceived in early autumn" what does he mean by "more likely"..does it mean that the researchers did not confirm with the infants' parents their actual date of birth? ----Yes , I discredit this point too. Considering... :hmm: so one flaw could be not mentioning as of how many of those 25 infants were 'actually' born in autumn. 13 yrs is a long time ...one cannot simply attribute the shyness only to one harmone ..various other factors could be in play. it could be purely a coincidence. ----I agree with you. Those factors including the upbringing surrounding( their parents's temper , whether they are shy people too), the education they accepted and their nation customs( possiblely the local culture is conservative and the shyness is a kind of virtue). ----One more point, the gender ratio of 25 children is unknown, according to the common sence gilrs are more likely shy than boys. :)
  16. I guess the answer is cookie. A kind of cookie file in your PC which remembered the username and password .
  17. 53.Thirteen years ago, researchers studied a group of 25 infants who showed signs of mild distress when exposed to unfamiliar stimuli such as an unusual odor or a tape recording of an unknown voice. They discovered that these infants were more likely than other infants to have been conceived in early autumn, a time when their mothers' production of melatonin¡ªa hormone known to affect some brain functions¡ªwould naturally increase in response to decreased daylight. In a follow-up study conducted earlier this year, more than half of these children¡ªnow teenagers¡ªwho had shown signs of distress identified themselves as shy. Clearly, increased levels of melatonin before birth cause shyness during infancy and this shyness continues into later life. --------Any point about this topic is welcom!
  18. 1 they should survey if there are other factor which affect the rating, such as the other bad programmes; 2 whether reinstate Fred's sport will have the postive affect should be experimented ,so that can not be certain about that; 3 we remove the Fred kalin's sports from the 11:00 news,we do not know the reason for this ,maybe it is due to the bad programmes of Fred kalin,so that it is good things to do.they must do that. 4 to sum up The WKAM manager sent out a memo that they removed the Fred Kalin's sports programmes, and after that, their rating just go down,so that manager suggested that they should reinstate the sports programme to revive the rating. There are many question in the manager's analysis. Firstly, after they remove the Fred kalin's sports programme, their rating just went down,so that the manager concludes that it was just because they remove the Fred kalin's sports programme. This is a very rash conclusion. The removal of the Fred kalin's programme is one things, and the rating went dowm is just the other another thing. There are many kinds( be careful please!!!!) of the things that will cause the downing of the rating, and at this time,we do not know what is the reason for the downing of rating.Maybe it is because the quality of many of programmes of this radio station went down, and the Fred kalin's sports is just one of such failure progammes, and the decision to remove the sport programme is the right decision.(wordy) Secondly, whether to reinstate the Fred kalin's sports programme will have the positive effect is questionable. Before we understanded(unfit) come to know the real problem of the radio stationrating down,it is not wise to have this decision.Maybe the radio station's manager can do the experiment to find whether reinstate the Fred kalin's sports programme will lead to good rating,or they can have the survey among the listeners to find whether Fred Kalin's sports programme is popular. ( and the real reason of declining rating) :) Thirdly, the other reason for Fred kalin's sports programms removal is :p probable that this programme was taken place when there are some big sports meeting,so that this programme is very hot among the sports lover. But after the sports meeting, their interest will go down,so that it is wise to remove this programe, and the question is how to replace this programme with the new one,and even you reinstate Fred kalin's programme will be no use. To sum up,the manager should know the real reason of the rating down, and to make certain whether this programme is so popular. At the same time, the manager should investigate whether there are the big sports meeting was taken place in their place, because that will be the factor to affect the popularity of the sports programme. a new tail! The argument is unconvincing at its stands. To be more persuasive, the arguer should provide more information such as : a investigation shows the main reason of people dislike the programme just because the moved sport's talk and have nothing with other programs; a statistics proves no other new ways provide media news about sports, for example the internet, or mobile phone messages.
  19. More than a year, no one answers this one. It is something difficult and paradox. A group with sence of cooperation, the member inspires and courages each other rather than only compromise, so the claim of truly innovative ideas do not arise from group of people is ex parte. well, a group, the Wright Brothers worked together to invent a plan. BUT I am not sure wether it is accounted as a inovative idea. a couple, Maria Curie and her husband discovered the new radioactive element and the definition of radioactivity. It is a short analysis but sounds reasonable, in fact most of issue I can get the compact analysis, but it seems too short. :-( but i really think that is enough clear and persuasive. And the Canpenter Brother is my favorist singer group, their music is brilliant ! To some extent, these songs are innovative ideas too, aren't they ?
  20. That is why sb said this forum is juicy ,not only the GRE essay, but also different faces and accents, Misha 's location is usa , anmole is an indian , I'm a chinese, We all can show various stances about some issues, at the same time every one can tell self story, which tell us THE WORLD IS REALLY LARGE AND WONDERFUL. Isn't it interesting and funny, it is a kind of luck. yes ,u are right, but maybe lots of members think they have no enough capability to correct others essay , just like me, they are afraid their english skill and level is too low. Right? :) donot be angry for that !
  21. Take me account, that is interesting, we are creating history too!
  22. I entirely agree the issue. After knowing the academic discipline, we know some secrecies of nature who is the closest and farthest friend. We learn to observe the world with a different sight. Most of physical discipline is related with the natural phenomenon. Our far ancestors saws the lighting, the falling star or a rainbow, they feared or admired the god which shows such a unblievable strengh. But now, we can explain most of nature miracles with physical discipline. The rainbow comes from millions of little drops floting in the air, reflecting the nature light; the lighting in the sky is the some thing of our manmade electricity which makes bulb lighting; the falling star is not the sign from the god but a stone or a similar small earth flying in the universe. Understanding these phenomenon, now we can look up the sky with a feeling of appreciation but fear. The knowledge of society and history gives us deeper understanding about ourselves. In ancesent century, the god is highest govener, his power is unlimited; in Rome empire time, the autocratic emperor is the human god, what he said is the law, what he did is absolutely correct, the definition of liberty does not exsitent at all; nowadays, the spirit of freedom and democracy has widely spreaed on the earth, democratic governments engage in protecting the human rights and interests of public people, citizens votes for whatever he like and deny whatever he does not agree, that means the government is for the people, by the people and of the people. The leader is not a human god again, he just a honest servant serve for people. Furthermore, the more academic discipline we come to know, the more objective we see ourselves. When human were still huntting a wildlife for a meal, animals are our enemys; when we had some fowl, they are a part of our family as the property, we are the ruler; taday, all of us realize all species on the earth are equal and precious and unvaluable, we depend on each other, we are all freinds. Human being is not the No 1, not the ruler of nature, we are a part of nature the same as other biology. Those idea's changes comes from the power of science and academic discipline. Academic discipline teaches us not only some rules of those happening in nature, but also a new way we see the world. It changes the way we see, we think, we understand, which makes us be more objective and more rational.
  23. Well, maybe u will say what are u saying?? Is it a issue?? yes, it is not a normal issue for GRE, it is just for me. I am mrose today, very unhappy, I need some words to relieve my feeling, so I wrote down them. ----------------------------------- I agree all historians are storytellers. They are, and why not? Firstly, let us look at the word--history, his story, that is the history. So if a historians wants to tell people a period of history, he must tell us the host 's true story, so if he is an excellent historian, he must be an excellent stotyteller. Maybe you will say there is a dumb historain, ok, then he must be a good writer tell true stories with his pen. When we concern ourselves with the study of history, we become not only a stroyteller, but also a researcher and detective. We are curious and sensitive to explore what was the truth, no matter it was before 500 years or 5000 years ago. I entirely disagree the claim that exploring history is more of a creative enterpirse than it is an objective pursuit. That implies the exploring lies on historains's imagination and creativity but the reliable evidence and logical analysis. The auther only see the history is broken and an uncoutinuious chain, he does not realize the historain can collect enough proof to relink the historic chain, provide people the whole picture of what had happened. During the exploring, historain holding the objective attitude, respecting the fact, speaking with truth, discovery each of clue, to some extent, they are scientists too. They are more intelligent than Holmes, bold but not hasty, calm but not fussy, careful but not captious, full of scientical spirite. There is no reason to blame them as unobjective storytellers.
  24. -------Any feedback and criticism is appreciated :) ----- 3 "Over the past year, the Consolidated Copper Company (CCC) has purchased over one million square miles of land in the tropical nation of West Fredonia. Mining copper on this land will inevitably result in pollution and environmental disaster, since West Fredonia is home to several endangered animal species. But such disaster can be prevented if consumers simply refuse to purchase products that are made with CCC's copper until the company abandons its mining plans." The author claims that customer's boycott could forbid CCC carrying out their mining plan could protect the African tropical rainforests on the West Fredonia. However, there are no sufficient persuasive evidence to support the advice though it seems appealling at the first glance. The benefit of customers would be cared firstly. Refusing CCC's copper productions maybe could affect their works or lives, notwithstanding they can refuse ccc brand, which is forged on the direct-productions, how can they realize those indirect productions such as the wire or integrated devices? Once CCC provide their copper to other factory as wire corn, but customers cannot tear the plastical surface downto copper corn to identify if it comes from CCC. So completely refusing the CCC's productions is unpractical. Moreover, if the CCC gives up their mining plans, other companys will invest to that land for their industrical projects too. Not for the copper mining, but cleaning the forests for cattle grazing, logging, automobile factory or building highways or dams, the local ecosystem would be distroied too. so to prevent one kind of investment is not a property step, because we cannot refuse all the daily consumptions. To protect the tropical rainforest, not only Weast Fredonia but also all rainforest nations should prohibit all kinds of extractive industury. Because the rainforest ecosystem is a delicate balanced web, the species depend on each other, one disappear, another extinct with it, which in turn distroy the entire web. So the sole plan of preventing the ccc's mining plan is meaningless. People would not believe the boycutt to the CCC's products will entirely protect the West Fredonia's rainforests unless more information should be provided, such as the nature environmental information about the West Fredonia, the CCC's production list and the analysis of the plan's possibility.
