  1. i took the gmat in november last and am going to the US this year. It was cool, pretty much similar to the powerprep material. all the best.
  2. syed, i have the jamboree material i can sell off. it has all the og questions. interested?
  3. Q1. Let total sales = s. => Imported Machine tools = 0.25 s (25% of total sales). Japanese Import = 45 % of Imported Machine tools = 45 % of (0.25 s) = (0.45) (0.25) s But Japanese import = x (Given) => x = 0.45 * 0.25 * s => s = x/(0.45*0.25) = (80/9) x. Answer is choice (e). 2. Answer is choice (a) -2 + 3 + 2 = 3. (Note that greatest integer less than or equal to -1.6 is -2. -2 is less than -1.6, right?)
  4. 1. No, it won't be a deterrant. I know a guy who dropped a year and is into harvard today. (He has a solid work ex and good acads though). 2. You shouldn't worry too much about it. Just convert using (x/10*4) where x is your CGPA and report it. Since you'll anyway be submitting your transcripts, the schools will do the rest for you.
  5. Manoj, Thanks. Would you grant me a hundred thousand dollars? (Just doing one of the the "every" possible things :) )
  6. Hahahaha, we all seem to be stuck with the same old financial problems. I haven't found out a solution to that, and considering what current students tell me - I'm planning to ditch my MBA aspirations. Atleast I have the satisfaction of knowing that I could compete well with those at some of the big B-schools :). That gives my ego a big boost!
  7. Stanford is a big school, and most people are able to get some sort of aid or the other. Even during the recessionary times, most lower ranked schools were dry in funds, but stanford rulezzzz. P.S: I was told this by a friend of mine who did his PhD in stanford four years ago. You may need to ask more people!
  8. Thanks mba05. I didn't apply to MIT coz: a) I thought MITs are for brainie guys, and the atmo there would be very competitive (dog eat dog kind). b) I had limited budget and limited time (I got very fed up after writing applications for the three univs.) And I started very late (second week of jan) for working on my essays for the second round deadlines. And I'm not a natural writer :). Which school are you going to, mba05?

    gmat and gre math

    I took GRE in 2000, and GMAT in 2004. I personally found GMAT's math a bit tougher than the GRE's. That could be because of the DS section!
  10. What I would suggest is the following. Don't worry about the experimental questions. If ever you get stuck somewhere, or if you have a tendency to feel that you didn't answer a previous question right and if that clogs your mind, you can soothe yourself by assuming that that question was an experimental one! :)
  11. Chaichat, which school are you going to?
  12. Thanks chaichat. I saw some comments somewhere on the net regarding the standards at Yale. It says that Yale isn't good, but is on the ranks only because of the brand "Yale" and it figures at the bottom rung among the Ivys. Is that true? Is being from an Ivy a proud thing?
  13. Hey guys, I need some help, really. I am an engineering grad, and applied to three schools. Here is the status: a) Yale: Waitlist. b) UMich: Waitlist. c) CMU: Admitted. What i was looking out was basically a well rounded experience with scope for improving my interpersonal and communication skills. But from what I see at Tepper (CMU) and the comments that I read at Financial Times, I see that the class at Tepper is composed largely of engineers and technocrats, and the graduates from Tepper do not score well in their interpersonal skills as the graduates from other top B-schools. I am totally confused. Is that true? Is Tepper limited in diversity? If you were to rate the above three programs, how would you rate them? What do you suggest I do? Drop a year and apply again? Or take up the CMU offer? Erin and others, everyone's suggestions shall be appreciated. Thanks!
  14. Hi David, I wish you could help me with my b-school selections. Here's my profile: 1. Undergrad Degree: B.Tech (2002) 2. Undergrad Major: Electrical Engg. 3. CGPA : 8.97 on a scale of 10. 4. GMAT : 750 5. Work Experience: 30 months. 6. Work Profile: 1.25 years as a Design Engineer in telecom Domain (product model). 1.25 years in services (VLSI domain) 7. Extra-Curricular/Community Service: Not done anything worth mentioning. 8. Travelled to customers site a few times, gave presentations on a tool our client was selling them.
