  1. Hi All, Can you direct me to some links that have concrete data on the different categories of management professor positions in the market? i.e. strategy, entrepreneurship, OB, ethics, etc. Just trying to see what is the trend in terms of job opportunities in the different concentrations... Thx.
  2. For those who have attended the PDWs at the AOM Conference, which do your recommend for new doctoral students? Here's the list: Professional Development Workshop Registration (PDWs)
  3. Thanks rsaylors! I wonder how much stats one should cover during the summer? Eventualprof, I haven't heard of this management bootcamp. At what univ. is it at? Is it open for those not enrolled at the univ.? Are there any others out there?
  4. Hello Urchers, So I have yet to see a management bootcamp for the summer prior to starting a Phd program. Do you know of anything out there for management students (not econ!)? If not, what are some suggestions in preparation for the fall? any suggest statistics material? anything else? looking forward to your thoughts!
  5. I would also add that they have an undergrad faculty separate from the grad faculty, so this would affect the publication rankings of the university. However, I would think that as a grad student the person would have predominantly more contact with the grad faculty, so may be after all, it is really worth considering these scholars individually.
  6. Has any urchers received an offer from Darden Management? :eager:
  7. Not sure how many offers UVA Darden made or whether people will accept or reject, but trying to stay strong and positive. Its really tough and is constantly on my mind. Thanks for the support everyone, and hopefully those who have offers will decide in the near future.
  8. Institution Name: University of Virginia - Darden School of Business Concentration (e.g. Strategy, OT, OB): Management - Ethics Date of Notification: 3/28/2014 Type of Notification (e.g. email/phone/snail mail): Email Notification (e.g. Interview / Waitlisted / Accepted): Waitlisted Posted on GradCafe? Yes Comments: Waiting in anticipation on the sidelines (waitlist). Hope this won't last for much longer. Best of luck to everyone!
  9. I should clarify that this initiative would be undertaken prior to reapplying for a Phd.
  10. Hi all, I would like to get the opinion of some of the senior members of the form on the relative value of participating in writing a business case at a top bus. School vs working on research. To what extent is the former highly regarded by ad coms. And is a case considered a publication?
  11. When you visit, speak to the faculty frankly and see what their reaction is. Go for those who are more enthusiastic and supportive over anything... "tolerate" is not enough.
  12. You can't go wrong with either program. But my gut feeling tells me you are better off where you feel that there is a better fit with your intended methodology & research interests, otherwise, you may regret later on sacrificing that part of the equation (which is a significant variable after all).
  13. I feel the pain...Yup, we are all learning how impatient we are, so you're not alone! I would say given that you are planning on moving there anyways, may be you should word your email in such a way that you are both asking for an update, as well as expressing interest in working with her on a project irrespective of the outcome of this cycle. I believe this will go a long way to helping you gain admission next cycle, should things not work out. Depending on how intensive the research role is, you may even want to consider forgoing the extra income for the sake of gaining a more comprehensive research experience within the next couple of months. You could also, through this, be introduced to other faculty at the school...So, there are many advantages to giving up employment, if it is financially feasible - only you are able to make that decision. I am personally considering doing something similar should I not match this cycle. But in my case I would have to resign from my job and relocate to do this, so sacrifices, sacrifices...
  14. Reviving the thread before it dies ...thx phdacc2014 for your insights...any others want to share their two cents?
  15. Can you clarify this: "Lastly, you would be able to get through new doc consortiums, allowing that block of time to be used for something else in the future..." Excuse my ignorance, but what are new doc consortiums? Also, I noticed that AOM runs from Aug 1 - 5. I am not sure about this conference, but I have been to others and noticed that many pple attend the first days only... Is this the case with AOM? Just trying to figure out the costs involved for hotels etc. Too bad I'm not a student, or else I would've applied for student housing!
