Topic:
Over the past year, our late-night news program has devoted increased time to national news and less time to weather and local news. During this time period, most of the complaints received from viewers were concerned with our station's coverage of weather and local news. In addition, local businesses that used to advertise during our late-night news program have just canceled their advertising contracts with us. Therefore, in order to attract more viewers to the program and to avoid losing any further advertising revenues, we should restore the time devoted to weather and local news to its former level
My answer:
The inclusion of local & weather news again requires evaluation of the revenues occurred due to featuring national news during the period, featuring local and weather news.
There might have been several reasons as to why the television channel has devoted more time to national news at late-night. People may not show interest to hear the weather of already happened day at late-night, or may not want to hear local news that would anyway have no effect as the day passed.
Local businesses must understand that the national news program is in no correlation with their advertisements. It is quite reasonable to feature local advertisements during national news. The viewers interested in a broad spectrum of information around the country watching national news may be interested in local advertisements.
Thus in order to attract more viewers to the program and to avoid losing any further advertising revenues, it requires evaluation of revenues of national, local & weather news separately. Also instead of not completely restoring the time devoted to weather and local news to its former level, a proportionate plan with a mix of national, local and weather news can be telecasted based on revenues evaluation.
