1. Thanks so much for all the advice posted on the forum
 2. Very similar question. Applied to 16, heard from 7, accepted at 5, and told 4 I wont be accepting. Now based on the forums 8 of the 9 remaining schools have already sent out out interview requests. The last school is a dream school and based on last years forums the school has probably already sent out interview requests. Do I accept the offer I have and move on? Or do I need to mail my dream school? Or do I need to mail all the schools I have not heard from personally? Thanks
 3. Hi Daizj Where did you interview? You mentioned top 2.. Also to all Acc people, have you heard from any of the places not mentioned on GC? Thinking of schools like Booth, Stanford, Berkeley, etc..
 4. Ps: the phd rankings takes the number of papers published by phd students after they left the program. It is all quite well explained on the webpage itself.
 5. As far as I know, the BYU rankings are based on the number of papers per school, and not per capita. This is the case for both the school and PhD rankings. A good option is to filter the author by schools you are interested in, and then have a look at the average ranking per school. You can select the school, phd program or author on the webpage. And off course it is important to have a look at both the area and method you are interested in...
 6. Has anybody heard from Stanford or Booth for accounting? Also, do the schools send out all interviews at once or do they send it out in blocks? Thanks

 8. Hi YaSvoboden. I am really happy I followed your advice to interview with all the schools. Thanks for that!
 9. Thanks for this, now I have 2 months of sweating left!
 10. So, who has sent out interviews for accounting? based on the forum I have seen: Iowa Wharton Rochester UNC UIUC Based on Gradcafe (can we "trust" these?) INSEAD Austin Michigan Georgia Ohio Texas A&M Indiana Purdue General question: when is the latest we can expect to hear from schools?
 11. About a week or 2 ago and I am an international student
 12. No problem. Sorry for only replying now. I received interviews from UIUC, UNC, Rochester and Iowa. I noticed on gradcafe that Austin and Michigan also sent out interview requests (not sure how "true" those are though)
 13. Yet again you have helped me so much. I followed your advice and I am really glad that I did!
 14. Thank you very much I was stressing a bit when I saw the other specializations sent out interview requests.
 15. How does the adcom work? Do they "decide" areas simultaneously or might marketing be this week and accounting next week? Any ideas on this?
 16. I hope this is the correct place to ask. I received an offer from one of my top 6 choice schools (accounting). I recently received an invitation for a skype interview from lets say my 12th choice school (I applied to 16). Should I still do the interview? And if not, what is a nice way to say "no thank you". Thanks
 17. Very informative, thanks. Just one question though. I have seen that some applicants mention that they received an early admit. Why and how does this happen?
 18. Just some advice on the GMAT. Your quant is quite good and seems as though you need to focus on practice. I would recommend either the GMATclub tests or the Magoosh program. The goal is not to do a million questions, but rather to understand why and how you can get to each answer as effectively as possible. Also, I used the e-gmat program for verbal. It starts of slowly but really helps if you stick to it. I must however disclose that I think that e-gmat focuses on non-native speakers, but I still believe it is worth it. Anyway, just my 2 cents (this got me past the 700 mark).
 19. Thanks guys, your advice has been really really helpful. If, no let's be positive, when I get accepted at one of these schools and present my first paper at a AAA conference I will need to add your names in the acknowledgements section :encouragement:. Thank you, this is one scary process and your advice has made it a lot easier.
 20. Hi TaxPhD I must say, with all the help you and YaSvoboden have provided it feels as though I should buy you guys a beer or something, so thanks. With regards to your comments. I actually replaced Michigan with Cornell. I noticed about four people at Cornell who have published papers dealing with either earnings quality or financial statement disclosure, so that was my thinking behind it. I will however reconsider (for the millionth time!). I do understand your thinking though, I will be competing with behavioral applicants at a school that is historically known for behavioral research, and still is one of the best behavioral research schools. So thanks With regards to safer school (I don't want to say safer because those schools all look amazing), I agree that UConn is not a good safer option. But I have a question with regards to UT-Dallas. Why would UT-Dallas be regarded a safer school? Its recent publication record is quite awesome and it is actually ranked second for financial archival research on BYU rankings (University of Texas at DallasAccounting Research Ranking). I guess it comes down to the above mentioned list again. When is a school actually a dream school and when is a school a school where one would be competitive? My apologies if this is a silly question, but I have read so many CVs, papers, school websites, rankings, etc and still are unsure about the "classifications"... It also links to what YaSvoboden mentioned above. Thanks for the advice on downplaying the text books, will do that.
 21. Thanks YaSvoboden I really appreciate all your advice and help. And so it begins... Also, I like what you said on in of your other posts:
 22. First off, once again a big thanks for all the help provided thus far. I am in the process of applying for the above mentioned degree, with a focus in financial archival research. I have done my homework and read the applicable forums. I however have one last (big) concern. I do not know if my composition of schools are good enough, as I am afraid that I might be a bit too arrogant in my selection, so please give any advice. Here is my pedigree: GMAT: 760 (Q50, V42) (99%) TOEFL: 117 (29,30,28,30) 3 letters of reference (all current academics) Good (in my opinion) SoP 2 years: PwC 7 years: Lecturer at a South African University (good lecturer evaluations). Chartered Accountant. Published 4 articles (B rated and C rated journals; according to the ABDC list). Presented papers at a few SA conferences. Masters degree in Accounting (South African University). Masters degree in Taxation (South African University). Co author on 2 accounting textbooks. I do not have GPA (SA university, I however was top in my class for a few modules throughout my studies). Biggest weakness is lack of calculus. I have completed a pre-calculus course and I am busy with calculus 1 on Coursera. If all goes well I would have completed calculus 2 by March next year. Here is my list, and please be honest: Also, I hope I am correct in the dream / not dream split Dream: 1. University of Toronto 2. University of Chicago (Booth) 3. University of Texas at Austin 4. Duke 5. University of California (Berkeley) 6. Stanford University 7. Cornell Competitive: 1. Texas A&M 2. University of Iowa 3. University of Illinois 4. Arizona State 5. Ohio State 6. Rochester Safer: 1. UConn 2. Nebraska-Lincoln Thank you very much
 23. Hi all Thanks so much for all the advice. I am feeling more and more confident with each helpful post. The one main thing that I am still unsure about is what is a top school? Safe school? School that I would be competitive at? Would the "safe" schools be the schools listed on the 650 list (previous page)? Please forgive my ignorance, but I have looked at almost all of these schools and I would be so grateful to study at any one of them. Even the "safest" school would be a dream school in my context. Would the list provided by me here (http://www.www.urch.com/forums/phd-business/155280-seeking-profile-evaluation-fall-2016-entry-please-post-here-6.html) be a good list? Any suggestions?
 24. Hi all First off, a big thanks for all the advice I have already received, especially to TaxPHD, Yasvoboden and phdhope. Just as background info, from my previous post: My biggest weakness is no formal calculus training. I will however enroll in a few online courses during the next month or two. I have chosen 12 schools. I would really appreciate your opinion as to whether these 12 schools are a good mix between dream, realistic and more realistic (safe doesn't exist). I have chosen these 12 schools based on current faculty research, phd research, faculty research interests, placements, PAR rankings, BYU PHD program rankings, BYU faculty rankings, university rankings and AACSB accreditation. I started with 40 schools and would appreciate insight as to whether I missed certain schools that should be in the list. Any advice would be appreciated. You are also welcome to PM me if you do not want to comment on the forum itself. The twelve are:

University of Texas at Austin

Stanford University

University of California

Texas A&M

Ohio State

University of Iowa

University of Georgia

University of Illinois

Arizona State

University of Nebraska-Lincoln

University of Connecticut

Duke

It was very difficult to leave out schools such as Michigan, University of Chicago, USC, Indiana & Arizona. Should I add these or replace them with others? Thanks
