  5. Hi all, I was wondering whether adcoms google candidates and try to find out information on them. For instance, do they try to gather intel from applicants' twitter profiles, Linkedin, Facebook or blog posts? I know they are quite busy, but do they have time to do these kinds of activities? I remember that, one of my Economics PhD applicant friends had deactivated her FB account while the application cycle was going on. What do you think?
  6. Hi Guys, I am posting my UPDATED information again, with new GRE and latest GPA. Test Scores (GRE): 324 (V157, Q167), Those who are not familiar with GRE, Quant: 94% and also this is equivalent to GMAT: 700 Undegrad: Computer Science and Engineering [Kind of like #1 IIT in my country] GPA - 3.25, this is considered First class at my university, doomed in last two years, had problems Good grades in Calculus I, II and discrete mathematics. Graduate GPA: Master in Public Policy [Ongoing] On a fellowship. GPA - 3.74 Research Experience: In undergrad worked as Research assistant to multiple lecturers, wrote code in C, C++. I had to write code using Genetic Algorithm to optimize supply chain. As a grad student worked for a political science professor for 6 weeks. Published 2 small conference papers. Working on another one. [related to New media, non profits] Working as a student consultant for a UN agency now. This is a 12 months long consultancy [heavy quantitative work, will require GIS, STATA] . Teaching Experience: none Work Experience: *Worked for country's largest engineering R&D company for 3+ years. *Founder of a non profit startup. Failed at three startups, accumulated a lot of connections and knowledge in the process. *Interned with a Washington DC based NPO. Concentration Applying to: Strategy /entrepreneurship. I call myself a Social Entrepreneurs, I do have a background in this, I would love to explore this field. Number of programs planned to apply to: 6-8 Dream Schools: Haas, Insead, 2-3 T50 programs. What made you want to pursue a PhD: I am quite curious. I like intellectually stimulating environment. Freedom as a professor. Concerns you have about your profile: #1) Nothing stands out in my profile 2) No research experience in Strategy/ Entrepreneurship. 3) Poor undergrad result in last two years.

Also interested in Social entrepreneurship Undergrad - Computer Science and Engineering- #1 in my country, kind of like "IIT" in India but #1. GPA - 3.25, this is considered First class at my university, doomed in last two years, had problems Postgrad - Master in Public Policy [Ongoing] On a fellowship. GPA - around 3.7 [should go up] Research Experience - Worked for country's largest R&D company 3+ years Previously worked as Research assistant in undergrad. Published 2 small conference papers. Working on another one. Working for an UN agency now...it's a 12 months long consultancy [heavy quantitative work, will require qGIS, SPSS] . Work Experience - Founder of a small social enterprise, got an international award. 3.5 years at a software company. 4 years at a social enterprise. Will be doing internship in Washington DC for 2-3 months this summer. Other Experiences - GMAT:V: Q:164, v: 159 [planning to take again] TOEFL 101 [expired] LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION - can get recommendations from economics/ organizations focused professors, also from an Ivy league PhD student, who I am currently researching on social media now.
