  1. I don't remember what 4 was, but I was torn between 2 answers as well. I was spending too much time on that question, so I just picked one. I don't remember choosing No. 1 above though. When I was practising in the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip], I found that anwers related to "cost" were usually incorrect.
  2. I'm in the club too. Took the GMAT for the second time today and did much worse than the first time. (I mean much worse) Both in the 400's. I'm not one of those people that do ok and then say that they failed miserably. Anyway, after crying for the past hour and getting some comfort from friends, I have realized that nicpon is right. We can't give up. There's nothing we can do about the past, so we just have to be strong and look forward. I discovered this website not too long before my second test. I'm going to participate more frequently and go for a third attempt in a couple of months. Let's help each other out. So what if schools already have records of two bad scores? We just have to work harder and get a much higher score next time, which will hopefull cancel the two bad ones. If we stop here, then the schools won't know that we can do better. I've actually put in a good three months of intensive studying. Even took a PR course, which cost a lot of money. Maybe I was putting in the hours, but not in right way. Maybe I just kept doing problems and wasn't paying enough attention to my mistakes. All these maybes... The fact that more studying didn't help me the second time really depresses me. The thought of having to go throught all that stress again depresses me even more, but hope that we can give each other inspiration and motivation. The strange thing that really, really bothers me is that in all my practise tests (both PR and Kaplan), I scored above 500, even on bad days. In one PR test, I even scored 630. So, how can my score from the real test be so different from the practice tests? Some comments on the math, which totally killed me today: I didn't get any questions on rates, ratios, averages...all those things that I studied for and are in most books. I got a whole bunch of weird DS questions. Most of them just had variables. I couldn't understand the question stem to a few of the problems. My weakness is DS, and it was just my luck to get so many of them. Sorry, I don't remember too much about problem solving. Was freaked out by all the DS. The verbal was pretty standard. Started off with quite a few SC, which I like. The passages were ok. The CR questions that I got were much harder than the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip] though. Got two bold face questions - one early one and in the middle. So, I don't think bold face questions indicate that you're doing well. They're just becoming more common. The essay questions were no surprise. Well, I think I need to shut my eyes. Talk to you guys later.
  3. Hi Sargataur, Appreciate a detailed description of your experience. I took the GMAT this afternoon. Got that kitchen question too. The answers were totally confusing. Plus, some test taker behind me was writing an essay and the typing noises were totally distracting! Today was my second attempt at the GMAT and I did much worse and I mean much worse. My score was in the 400's, so I'm not one of those people that got pretty decent marks and then complain that they failed miserably. I really bombed it. You're in a better position than I'm in. Since you have the option of taking it again, go for it. You have a chance at getting a better score in time for majority of the schools.
  4. Ahhh...2 terrible things together - absolute value and inequalities. Is t a noninteger? (1) |t-3| (2) t not equal to 3. The answer is C. When I see something like statement 1, my mind goes blank.
  5. Is there an easier way to solve this problem than the OG's explanation? (Like pluggin-in or something?) In a certain class consisting of 36 students, some boys and some girls, exactly 1/3 of the boys and exactly 1/4 of the girls walk to school. What is the great possible number of students in this class who walk to school? a. 9 b. 10 c. 11 d. 12 e. 13
  6. This is from paper test code 48: Which of the following could be the sume of the reciprocals of two different prime numbers? a. 7/13 b. 10/21 c. 11/30 d. 23/50 e. 19/77 The anwer is B, but I'm not sure how to solve this question.
  7. I feel stupid because I'm not getting h= 26/47
  8. Hi Guys. This question is from the Kaplan 800 book: In contrast to the symphonies of Haydn, a much feer use of dissonance is evident in the symphonies of Mahler. (a) (b) In contrast with Haydn's symphonies, Mahler uses dissonance much more freely. © In contrast to those of Haydn, the symphonies of Mahler demonstrate a much more free use of dissonance. (d) In contrast to Haydn's symphonies, Mahler's demonstrate a much freer use of dissonance. (e) In contrast with Haydn's symphonies, those of Mahler use dissonance much more freely. The answer is (d). Even though this is a comparison question, I thought the idiom, "In contrast to" is wrong. Idiom sources always say the correct idiom is "in contrast with."
  9. The answer is D for both questions. Thanks for explaining.
  10. Thanks for your help. The answer is B.
  11. Can someone help me with these? Thanks a bunch! 1. If k is a positive integer and n=7.049 x 10^k, what is the value of k? (1) 7500 (2) 10^4 2. If a+b = 200, and a c+d? (1) c+d (2) b+c+d = 300. I'm having problem with statement 2.
  12. Would appreciate it if someone could help me with the below problem: Maxhines X and Y produced identical bottles at different constant rates. Machine X, operating alone for 4 hours, filled part of a production lot; then machine Y, operating alone for 3 hours, filled the rest of this lot. How many hours would it have taken machine X operating alone to fill the entire production lot? (1) Machine X produced 30 bottles per minute. (2) Machine X produced twice as many bottles in 4 hours as machine Y produced in 3 hours. Thanks!!

    What happened?!

The same thing happened to me as well!! I was so shocked that I thought surely something was wrong the computer. I always scored higher in verbal than math on practice tests, but for some reason I totally bombed the verbal on the real GMAT. My real GMAT score was 150 lower than my best practice test score. I'm taking the GMAT again in just under 2 weeks, so I'm feeling really nervous about the nightmare happening again.
  14. Where is everyone getting these probability and combination questions? I am going through both Princeton Review and Kaplan books, but haven't come across that many. (maybe 2 from the Kaplan book) I've heard that more probability questions and fewer geometry questions are showing up on the real test and would like to get more practice since I totally suck at probability and combination.
