  1. @riteshn In the email list at least six email ids were misspelt...this was written in a thread od edulix.com...so in that case if your email is listed in the cc list still you may not get it....it's better if you mail to the graduate advisor....all the best...
  2. Got an admission from NCSU on 14th February and from SUNY, Binghamton today. Both with no aid. :( ...Binghamton was a safe bet and I applied to it with the hope of aid... can anybody tell me what is the chance of aid in NCSU after going there? Profile ---------- MS in CS GRE 530(V)+800(Q)+4.0(A) TOEFL (267+5.5) B.E.(82%)

  5. Answer B Let n be an even number. let 2m, then the expression becomes 2m*(2m+1)*(2m+2) =4*m*(m+1)*(2m+1) Now as m*(m+1) is the product of two conswcutive numbers so one of them must be even. So their product must be divisible by 2. So 4*m*(m+1) musy be divisible by 8. Again let n to be an odd number i.e. 2m+1. So the expressin becomes (2m+1)*(2m+2)*(2m+3). here only (2m+2) is even and hence divisible by 2. And the prosuct of the rest part is odd. So overall the expression is not divisible by 8. As the range 1 to 96 has equal number of even and odd so the the answer is 50%
  6. Thank you very much to green horn, Ivo and Soumyajayaraman. :)
  7. Thank you very much greenhorn. Can you please tell me whethere the 24 questions related to background before the actual test is optional? If I skip them, will it divest me from sending scores to four school free of cost?
  8. Is it true that replying the 24 question before the actual test, like undergrad major, major of choice (CS, Econ) can influence the level of difficulty of question? I read from Vinay's post that memtioning as a CS student can make the quant section realy hard and the verbal section easy...on the other hand an literature student might fact easy quant and difficult verbal? is this true? THen is it suggested to skip that section? Here is the link to Vinay's post http://www.urch.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4374&goto=nextnewest
  9. Here is my response.... "Is media responsible for the increasing violence in society, especially in children" Media is one of the most powerful way to reach common people in our society. Every day most of us spend significant time with media and been influenced by its content. We become agitated by the violence, the cluelty, the hedonism that comes to us by media. but still I can't agree with the simplistic view that media alone can increase violence in our society, especially among children. I rather think that one requires the support of the environment and the accompaniment to be provoked to be violent. A child faces the variegated exposure of this world from his early age. he sees the crimes that happen around on the newpaper, he watches that a hero is beating a villain on the cinema, even he can see the photographs of communal riots in the news. But the matter is that not every one of them turns to do violence. Infact most of them abohrs violence; because they have also information that violence is bad, that violence should be avoided at any cost. One big information source is the close relatives, like parents, who teaches the child that violence has adverse effects on the child itself as well as on those who are inflicted by the violence act. By this inculcation a child can understand the boundary between good deeds and bad deeds; and he learns to live and let live gracefully. In fact the provocation of violence comes from environment. Most of the time people are much more influence by his friend or some demagogue whose invidious provocation is the main driving force of common person to violence. Most of the time the ill-willed politicians agitated common people towards communal violence or other type of political violence. THis type of provocation has exponential effects and can hit a rabble at very small time. THere are also other type of violence. Some of them have their origine in our sociery, like killing of a woman for not meeting the dowry. In fact if a man is learned fromm his society throughout his life that taking dowry is not a social offence then it is very probable that he will be heinous toward his wife and ultimately kill him. THis is also a type of violence and the media has partial provocation behind it, because most of the time the media shows how a man can be killed but the media also says that killing ones wife is an offence. The major difference behind a man and an immature child is that, most of the time the child is tractable, but in an adult the seed of violence entrenched such a way that it is almost inveterate; the child can be sent to juvenile jail but the adult will be a reprobate after he will finish his punishment; media has little to do with it; Some of the cases the brains behind public violence is a literate person and he is little likely to be influenced by some action on some cinema. Most of the cases it is seen that the public who commits violence are not very accessible to media; If any type of survey is conducted between a group of well bred people and some people who has been struggl;ed through the caprice of fortune, penury, orphancy, and with bad companions it will be seen that the second catagory are prone to violence. THey are mainly poors, unemployed, and that's why corupt politicians can use them as criminals, or they can kill their close friend or relative with a thought of second time. THat's because they are amoral and have little idea about the consequence of there miscreants. Only proper education and environment could make them ideal person. So, in the end I can conclude that media is not the main reason behind social violence, rather there are many other reasons that increaes the social violence,

  13. "Truly profound thinkers and highly creative artists are always out of step with their time and their society." This is my response for the essay.. ------------------------------------- Trulty profound thinkers and high quality thinkers are not really differents in their level of cerebration. In fact the difference lies in their medium of expression. The main subject of their society is human society, its auspice and its perversion, the exchequer of human life. In fact their working is tutelary to the human society and that’s why I don’t agree with the view that their area of creation is totally tangential to human society, rather they are very much relevant to our mundane world. The main difference lies in the angle in which an ordinary people works in his quatidian world and an eminent thinker or a creative artist persue the world. A good thinker has always some standard of thuth that he purifies and modifies throughout his world. He observes the world in the light of his truth. He always wants that an ordinary people knows the truth. The intention of his weiting is to inspire a man to free from the bondage of his daily prejudices. When an artist delineates a figure, he tries to draw the perversion of thuth and good in the society; he wants to depict the deviation of philanthropic attitudes of common people. In fact many famous philosophers have their painting series that decry against violation, vulgarity, deprivity and cruelty. Many famous cinemas have their remonstration against riot, against war, against eugenic policies. Not only acts as an quintessance of protest, but the work of an artist works as a refuge of human mind. In fact the works of the artists and the thinkers are the source of knowledge that exhorts a man to know what is life, what is beauty. The use of black paintings of Ganesh Pyne learns us what is melancholy, the “balaka” series of Rabindranth make us unperturbable when the dreadest impasses impedes one’s life. Again the halcyon beauty of Jeebananda das, in his sonar bangala poem let us know that “there is a new evening in everybody’s heart”. In fact we know from the works of the artisrs and thinkers, that life can be lead with much more dignity and beauty, one can transcend from his mundane life a great extent and can lead a different life. But it’s also true that great people are not qualified by the world of their time. There are many instances that the work of a thinker is acknowledged much later after his death. Leonardo Da Vinci had throght about the helicopter and even designed it nuch more earlier that it was actually implemented. Jules Verne had written about submarine earlier than it was made. The thesis of copernicus was recognised after his death, which proves that he was much ahead of his time. Thus we can conclude that the relam of thinking and creation of great thinkers and eminent artists are not totally out of step to the common world. They have their eyes open towards the today’s world, but they never hesitate to incarnate and express any idea if it seems far more advanced compared to todays world. post your essay to this forum http://www.www.urch.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18739
